Speedy deletion nomination of Ritwik Thakur

edit

Hello Ritiman Thakur,

I wanted to let you know that I just tagged Ritwik Thakur for deletion, because the article doesn't clearly say why the subject is important enough to be included in an encyclopedia.

If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to work on it, you can contest this deletion, but please don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions. Kges1901 (talk) 10:53, 18 January 2015 (UTC)Reply

Managing a conflict of interest

Hello, Ritiman Thakur. We welcome your contributions to Wikipedia, but if you are affiliated with some of the people, places or things you have written about in the article Ritwik Thakur, you may have a conflict of interest or close connection to the subject.

All editors are required to comply with Wikipedia's neutral point of view content policy. People who are very close to a subject often have a distorted view of it, which may cause them to inadvertently edit in ways that make the article either too flattering or too disparaging. People with a close connection to a subject are not absolutely prohibited from editing about that subject, but they need to be especially careful about ensuring their edits are verified by reliable sources and writing with as little bias as possible.

If you are very close to a subject, here are some ways you can reduce the risk of problems:

  • Avoid or exercise great caution when editing or creating articles related to you, your organization, or its competitors, as well as projects and products they are involved with.
  • Avoid linking to the Wikipedia article or website of your organization in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam).
  • Exercise great caution so that you do not accidentally breach Wikipedia's content policies.

Please familiarize yourself with relevant content policies and guidelines, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, verifiability of information, and autobiographies. Note that Wikipedia's terms of use require disclosure of your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation.

For information on how to contribute to Wikipedia when you have a conflict of interest, please see our frequently asked questions for organizations. Thank you. Sam Sing! 10:56, 18 January 2015 (UTC)Reply

Proposed deletion of Ritwik Thakur

edit

The article Ritwik Thakur has been proposed for deletion because it appears to have no references. Under Wikipedia policy, this newly created biography of a living person will be deleted unless it has at least one reference to a reliable source that directly supports material in the article.

If you created the article, please don't be offended. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Referencing for beginners, or ask at the help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. If you cannot provide such a source within seven days, the article may be deleted, but you can request that it be undeleted when you are ready to add one. JohnCD (talk) 15:32, 18 January 2015 (UTC)Reply

  • I have declined the speedy-deletion nomination, but references are essential if the article is to be kept. Check out Wikipedia:Verifiability, summarised as: "any material challenged or likely to be challenged must be attributed to a reliable, published source." References need not be in English, and need not be on-line, though both those are preferable, but they must have been published. The point is that readers of Wikipedia should be able, in principle, to check on what it says.
For articles about living persons, that is so important that, as explained above, they will be deleted after seven days if not referenced, though they can be restored when someone is ready to add a reference.
The verifiability requirement means that an article should concentrate on facts rather than opinions, or the subject's opinions or emotions. As the subject's son, you know many things about him which cannot be independently verified, but you must keep those out of the article and write only what is verifiable - anything else is "original research" which has no place in an encyclopedia. (You should also check out WP:COI and WP:PSCOI).
References are also required to meet Wikipedia's inclusion criterion, called Wikipedia:Notability, which is not a matter of opinion but has to be demonstrated by showing "significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject." See also WP:AUTHOR and Wikipedia:Notability (summary). Lists of what he has written are not enough here, what is wanted is commentary about him and his work, such as independent reviews.
