Fair use rationale for Image:PLUS_Logo_60x40.jpg

I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Cream skimming

Paul, I'm concerned that this article comes across as an excuse to level charges at a specific company, or at least takes a particular point of view. Furthermore, we need some verification that the specific phrase "cream skimming" is notable and in common usage. Well, the sourcing is getting better — I think you were posting more as I was posting my original message. It might help if you could find an additional source from sme sort of news media, especially one that specifically uses the phrase "cream skimming." But you seem to be headed in the right direction. Just watch the POV. Hey, you've been around WP even longer than I have, so you know the drill. (By the way, the tabs deal you have at the top of this page is neat! Fair enough. By the way, I just saw the phrase used in the School vouchers article (see the "opponents" section), so you might want to work that in. Also found this in reference to health insurance: [1] I think we can now safely establish that the phrase is in widespread use. I don't have time to work this stuff in myself - gotta go back to work. Help needed

I have used the codes on Wikipedia:Tutorial/TabsHeader to create Wikipedia:WikiProject Bangladesh/Deshipidian tabs. But, I can't get the edit tag to show along with headers on the pages I used it in. Can you help? Aditya^{(talk • contribs)} 17:12, 27 March 2008 (UTC)

You see, on Wikipedia you get little "edit tags" ([edit]) on the right hand side of every header and sub-header. It makes editing much easier, especially for longer pages. But, when I use the tab codes, that [edit] tag vanishes. It did on you talk page, too. Wikipedia:Tutorial/TabsWithEdit supposedly should help at that, but I couldn't figure out how to make that work. It could be a bug in the codes. I don't know who created the codes and can't get directly to that person. Would you take a look at the problem? Aditya^{(talk • contribs)} 03:18, 28 March 2008 (UTC)

Pictures of you

Hi. Would you mind if I deleted the B&W and Sepia images of you? You are using the color ones, but the others don't really seem to have any value, and if you are not going to use them, then there doesn't seem to be a point. I originally did a B&W, Sepia and Color picture for the article on Sepia tone, to show the difference between sepia and black and white, also, because someone had used a Playboy playmate for a previous example, which would not qualify for fair use. Since then, someone else found a better picture (something nonspecific if I remember correctly) for sepia tone. This means that I no longer need the B&W or Sepia Images. As noted above, if you had marked them for deletion I would not need to do anything, but I see that - perhaps out of respect - you asked me first. If you have administrator priveleges or otherwise can delete photos, I have no problem with the deletion of the black and white and sepia images and you may do a speedy or immediate delete on those two. As you noted, I am still using the color image, so of course I would object to deletion of the color image (but as you said you were not raising an issue of the color image I presumed you were not planning to do so anyway, but when it comes to something as permanent as an erasure I tend to be anal retentive in being exact, if not pedantically so). Judicial Review

Rfct1394: I would hate to sound harsh, but I have some issues with your latest addition to the article judicial review that I'd like to bring to your attention. First, the paragraphs you added appear to be based on original research, which as I'm sure you know, is not encouraged here. Second, the argument you are making is not one for which you'll find much support. I have never seen anyone ground judicial review in Article VI, and I will tell you why it is unlikely you ever will: it is not a logically acceptable inference. It is a circular argument that (perhaps inadvertantly) assumes its own conclusion. True indeed, the Federal government is a government of enumerated powers; laws that exceed the scope provided in the Constitution are outside the scope of the Supremacy Clause of Art. VI. But who decides the scope? The inference that because someone must, the courts must, only follows if you assume there is a basis for judicial review. See the problem? Someone writing the Constitution could have meant for review of the scope Congress's powers to NOT be judicial. Perhaps they were meant to have oversight over themselves. Now I know that is NOT what the framers intended, and so do you. It would have been a bad idea. Nevertheless, the possibility renders the argument you've made untenable.

I bring this to your attention because I don't like to nuke good faith edits. However, I would urge you to strongly to undo or rewrite your own edit. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions about my position. Non Curat Lex (talk) 07:53, 16 June 2008 (UTC)

Thank you for noticing my error in marking New Brunswick as Nova Scotia and not marking NS at all on the two images Usa_and_Canada_with_names.svg and Usa_and_Canada_with_names_natural.svg. I have created new images which correct this but for some reason I'm not sure if they uploaded correctly as they still appear as the original image. I checked by using Firefox to view the images and they do show up. (The two indications are that the pointer for P.E. Island is bent and NS is a marker.) You suggested: a straight fact piece, e.g. explaining how Fractional Reserve works, that banks have to foreclose on mortgages to raise money when their loans go bad in order to restore their reserve, and that's the purpose of the bailout, to ensure that banks both have cash on hand to pay depositors who make withdrawals, I am wondering if that would be acceptable, or whether the only thing Wikinews is for is straight reporting of events, no back-story or explanation of issues, even if strictly facts only?

Referendum templates

I appreciate your help with the proposition result templates, but I don’t think the changes were necessary. For example, {{referendum pending}}, {{referendum approved}}, and {{referendum rejected}} are basically the same as {{referendum box begin}}. The only difference is the check and X images. I would like to keep all the election result templates as similar as possible, so if you have no objections I plan to changes the pages back and just use {{referendum box begin}}. – Zntrip 21:41, 1 November 2008 (UTC)

I think the first is easier to edit. Most editors, including me copy and paste the code anyway. In the original code, an editor does not have to guess what the parameters are. For example, "nopct" is not as clear as the original layout. I think it is important for editors to easily find the code they want to edit, especially if they are unfamiliar with it. – Zntrip 00:28, 2 November 2008 (UTC)

Your new edits are an improvement, however I still think the original template was easier to use. The original template is more fluid as well because new templates can easily be created for special case. For example, if a jurisdiction does not report invalid ballots or if the referendum has multiple questions new templates can be made for {{referendum box begin}}. I also think it is important that users not familiar with templates can easily edit them. I know the new one is more efficient, but what ultimately matters is what appears on the page and for that to happen I think all users have to feel comfortable with editing the template. Additionally I want the referendum template to be as similar to the other election templates, which in my opinion are both easy to use and flexible. – Zntrip 06:24, 2 November 2008 (UTC)

PageTabs

Hi. I have modified the PageTabs template (and associated templates) to stop tabs from being taller than they need to be. As the number of tabs decreased, the height of the tabs increased, because the script would embed only a carriage return for each missing tab (of the possible 9). I have added an extra | in each line of the PageTabs template (resulting in a double pipe when the PageTab1/2 template is expanded) to force a new cell and commented out the carriage returns so that readability of the source is maintained while not impacting the height of the tabs.

C-6 (explosive)

Hello Rfc1394, do you have any sources to support your article C-6 (explosive)? It has stood with a {{references}} tag for 3½ months, without improvement. I am fairly familiar with military explosives and I have never heard of it and cannot find it in any of my references (although I will be the first to admit that there have been a zillion designators for military materials over the years, and it is possible some country has used this one sometime.) However, a C-6 plastic explosive does occur in one of the Cyberpunk role-playing games, where it is meant to be a further future development of the composition C series.
