- Hmmm. Not sure how much of a hint I can give you without making it too obvious. And I hope EE doesn't mind... Once you figure out what the first symbol is, you'll see you've got 99.9% of the answer. Reyk YO! 11:38, 14 July 2008 (UTC)

Salvaging the Paraguay River travel info
editThanks for the heads up, I do think we could import that article to Wikitravel. I'll need to get the original author's permission to relicense as CC-by-SA 1.0, though. So hopefully she/he will respond to my request before the deletion rolls in! --Peter Talk 04:20, 17 July 2008 (UTC)

Busbee
edithello! please stop messing with the "busbee" page...aka mike busbee. that is me. someone who is NOT me has taken it upon themselves to add information about me that is partially true and is not the professional information about my career that i would like available to the world. i would prefer to NOT have a wikipedia page at all. i do think i have that write. so again, please stop changing "my page." thank you kindly! —Preceding unsigned comment added by Mijarybu (talk • contribs) 07:20, 18 July 2008 (UTC) Moved to the bottom of the page by Reyk, text unaltered
Out of interest (the answer!)
editTo answer your question: I often run head-first into WP:BACKLOG and pull out wonky articles for AfD consideration. Tonight, I decided to go to the back of the backlog and work my way forward. That is why we have a surplus of Z-related stuff up for discussion. Thanks for the nice message!

Notability of 2005 California Golden Bears football team
Thank you for your concerns on the notability of 2005 California Golden Bears football team. The Wikipedia:WikiProject College football welcomes discussions and collaboration on issues surrounding college football. You can read and discuss notability issues of college football at the College Football Notability essay.
The College Football project considers notability discussions of existing articles in the project a priority. While the project maintains in good faith that the article does indeed meet notability standards, we will begin additional work to improve the article in question through addressing specific concerns, providing more details, and supplying stronger sources as much as is appropriate. In return, we ask that you consider our essay on notability. If you feel an article needs a specific improvement, please feel free to make those changes yourself.--Paul McDonald (talk) 12:27, 27 July 2008 (UTC)
Hey there, this case caught my eye, so I've gone ahead and opened it, but I'm not sure if mediation is really what you're looking for. The idea behind mediation is to find common ground between all the parties involved, i.e. develop a consensus with some help from the mediator. If this is more a "does policy say this" discussion, you might be better off getting more community opinions. Shell babelfish 15:25, 27 July 2008 (UTC)

Dear Reyk,
was that you who has helped with my note draft "Qu Bo (novelist)"
I am sorry that I have got really confused. I only trying to put Qu Bo, the novelist not the footballer into Wikipedia. I did not know how to do it and I found a software that could convert HTML to WIKI. I have put my one page note in my windows live space, but I cannot get the references linked there either. I do not know how to publicise a note or biography onto wiki. The source of the image? I own the photo and made it jpg file. Could you please have a look of my windows live space [1] and help me to put it onto WIKI?
I have found it is too difficult to learn. I am frustrated. I am so sorry.
Thank you very much for your time and I might not be able to make it.

Human trafficking
editOne was nominated for deletion (Human trafficking in Serbia) and I decided to proceed because it seemed like there was a consensus that it is good to use these as starting points for articles. Calliopejen1 (talk) 02:04, 30 July 2008 (UTC)

Regarding your block request and discussion at User talk:80.229.149.112 and the article in question, as you can probably see, I've declined to block this IP for the moment and requested further clarification regarding those edits. In looking at it further, I am finding it difficult to see why BNP belongs as a link in that article in the first place. It is a disambiguation page and it's not at all clear to me why it would be there. BNP is not mentioned anywhere in the article that I can see - just in the "see also" section. I have searched for each of the disambiguation pages by name in the racism article, and can't find that they show up by name (rather than by the BNP abbreviation) either. Can you identify which of the pages it might be referring to? We want to strike the right balance between protecting the encyclopedia and biting the newcomers. Thanks! Frank | talk 14:03, 30 July 2008 (UTC)
- I'm 99% certain this is supposed to link to the British National Party, a far right-wing political party with membership restricted to whites. I've just fixed the link accordingly. Declining the block is your call, but I find it increasingly difficult to assume good faith when this IP has done nothing but vandalize since they've been here, won't answer honest questions about their edits, and ignore Meldshal42's warning. Reyk YO! 22:31, 30 July 2008 (UTC)
- I agree the editor could have (and should have) been more forthcoming, but I don't think we can legitimately classify the edits as vandalism when the removed text was linking to a disambiguation page with >10 link targets on it. I for one would never have guessed the correct target without reading the pages themselves. It does look like you've settled on the right one, but without that, it seems a legitimate edit to remove it in the first place. No further edits occurred after the report to AIV; we can always continue to watch and see. Frank | talk 22:40, 30 July 2008 (UTC)
- Fair enough. I've learned a bit from this. Reyk YO! 22:44, 30 July 2008 (UTC)
- Now I just hope the block doesn't become necessary :-) Thanks for the constructive dialogue. Frank | talk 01:32, 31 July 2008 (UTC)

editI am sorry that I have another problem of describing the source of the image. editThanks for weighing in at my RfA. I take adminship more seriously than it probably appeared, but you may be right to suspect that I am not a good candidate for it. At any rate, I will be looking to serve Wikipedia in entirely different ways and hope to work positively with you and everyone else in that capacity. Not everyone can be an admin, right? Cheers! ...for participating in my RfA, which closed with 119 in support, 4 neutral and 5 opposes. I'm honestly overwhelmed at the level of support that I've received from the community, and will do my best to maintain the trust placed in me. I 'm also thankful to those who opposed or expressed a neutral position, for providing clear rationales and superb feedback for me to build on. I've set up a space for you to provide any further feedback or thoughts, should you feel inclined to. However you voted, thanks for taking the time out to contribute to the process, it's much appreciated. Kind regards, Gazimoff 21:51, 4 August 2008 (UTC) |

editHi, I've rewritten pixologist and encourage you to revisit Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Pixologist to see if your concerns have been addressed. Please note that a name change to pixel artist is almost assured if the article is kept. Banjeboi 20:54, 5 August 2008 (UTC)
Tried to De-orphan Qu Bo (Novelist)
editI have linked Qu Bo (novelist) to Mao's era, Chinese literature. There are few articles I can find to link to. Could you please have a look again? Saw your contributions, absolutely brilliant. Thanks again and again. Miao Miao Qu (talk) 07:26, 6 August 2008 (UTC)
Howard Perdew
editThe prize that you cited in the afd is a "NSAI Songwriter Achievement Award". Those are a dime a dozen; 99% of Top Ten hits seem to get them. So yeah, it's hardly a notable award, and Perdew still seems to fail WP:V. Ten Pound Hammer and his otters • (Broken clamshells • Otter chirps • HELP) 16:52, 6 August 2008 (UTC)
Rollback enabled on your account
editHello Reyk,
I have noticed that you revert quite a bit of vandalism. Since you have demonstrated that you have a good grasp of what constitutes vandalism, I have enabled rollback on your account. Keep in mind these things when going to use rollback:
- Getting rollback is no more momentous than installing Twinkle.
- Rollback can be used to revert vandalism only, and not good faith edits.
- Rollback may be removed at any time.
If you no longer want rollback, then contact me and I'll remove it. Also, for some information on how to use rollback, you can view this page. I'm sure you'll do great with rollback, just leave me a message on my talk page if you run into troubles or have any questions about appropriate/inappropriate use of rollback. Happy editing! J.delanoygabsadds 21:24, 9 August 2008 (UTC)
- Cheers. I gave it a go at New Admin School (it gave me a chance to legitimately make some really childish edits) and I can see it'll come in handy. I appreciate you trusting me with it. Reyk YO! 22:39, 9 August 2008 (UTC)

editJust a little note to say thankyou for participating in my successful RFA candidacy, which passed with 96 supports, 0 opposes, and 1 neutral. I am pleasantly taken aback by the amount of support for me to contribute in an administrative role and look forward to demonstrating that such faith is well placed.
