Black Scrolls Magazine deletion

Hi I would like to state the case for the Black Scrolls Magazine, which you deleted. Your reason - non-notable due to erratic releases. It is true it has erratic releases, but it is an extremely popular release with thousands of fans. It is still in production so it is an on-going concern. The wiki page is in development, so it will eventually become detailed and an excellent resource of facts on the magazine, not the 500 words you read. There are other Dr Who fanzines, prozines and magazines on wikipedia, so it should most certainly have a place. Please read Wikipedia:Notability. There were no and still are no indications of notability. To the contrary, there are indications of non-notability (like 8 issues in 12 years or "it is still in production"). Thanks again, Renata! Here are my counter-comments:

1. Lead. I don't really think that history would belong in the lead (especially considering that the whole History section is rather spotty), but adding basic information about the republic might be a good idea. I'll try it that way first.
2. Ref tags. OK.
3. Links in headings. I am not against duplication myself. What bothers me is complete duplication, which is what is going to happen, because the articles on districts contain little more than that same basic information you want to see in the section leads and in subsequent composition tables. Anyway, I though of different ways of dealing with section leads, and thought that information on when each particular district was established would have been perfect for that role. The unfortunate fact is that I am unable to find that information (no surprise, really). I even know the names of the printed sources, but unfortunately the only places I could possible get to them are the libraries of Adygea and Krasnodar Krai. As for you proposed layout, I am sorry, but I simply do not like it. In my view, it puts too much emphasis on name information without improving much. I'll definitely be on a lookout for more ideas for section leads, and you can have my word that I'll remove links in headings as soon as I have something. If that's not good enough for you, well, I guess I'll have to accept the fact that you (and probably some others) will oppose the nomination. I still welcome any input you might have, though :)
4. Administrative structure.
5. Cite web. What I meant by I am also unable to use the parameter from inside cite web is that currently the OKATOReference template uses a parameter to refer readers to the proper section of the document (code number, {{{1}}}). If I re-format the template using cite web, I am no longer able to use this parameter and have to either include the section number manually or not include it at all.
6. Map. I'll check if the map author agrees to re-do the map with a larger font. If not, we can just center the full-size map somewhere, as it is done, for example, in federal subjects of Russia.

Baltic tribes map

Renata, I would love to work on a Baltic tribes map. I enjoyed making the Livonian Confederation map and this Baltic Tribes map looks interesting as well, with exotic peoples (exotic to me, at least) set in a distant time. I will add the Sudovian name to the map. There is both a Wikipedia article on the Yotvingians and another on the Sudovians but everything that I've seen says that these are two names for the same tribues. Vaisvilkas

I am afraid there is a confusion here. According to a number of chronicles (I personally checked with Bychowiec Chronicle and Evreinov Chronicle (Yevreinov Chronicle, Евреиновская летопись)) the Lavrishev Monastery was founded by son of Treniota, Rimantas (or Rimundas,Римонт. Римунд), who was baptized under the name Lavr, Lavrysh, Лавр, Лаврыш and founded the monastery later named after his name: Lavrishev Monastery. Vaishvilkas was among his monks, but it is said he lived somewhere else, separately. Rimantas is known in Orthodox tradition under his monastic name Yelisey: Saint Yelisey Lavrishevsky Елисей Лавришевский.

However some doubt the historicity of Rimantas and assume that in fact Vaisvilkas (Войшелк) founded the monastery and Yelisey was yet another person as discussed, eg, here . It should be noted that tales about Vaisvilkas as recorded by Maciej Stryjkowski in Chronicle of Poland, Lithuania, Samogitia and all of Ruthenia and Kojałowicz in Historia Lithuaniae are also considered semi-mythological.

At the moment I have no idea whether a settlement of Lavrishevo Лавришево matches the place of the monastery. There is no traces monastery there now and some express doubt as to the location. There is a Church of Dormition (1768)

In some sources the village of Lavrushevo Лаврушево is mentioned in the same region (By Navahrudak) in context of the restoration of the monastery.

It is also claimed that the monastery was also mentioned in old documents as монастырь Лаврашев or Лаврашевский монастырь (Lavrashev Monastery)

Informal mediation

Could I ask you to look at some of recent Lokyz's contributions on talk of Polish-related articles, and ask her to stop assuming bad faith on the part of Polish editors? It would be great if you could explain to him that Poles are not 'hated by all of their neighbours' and are not 'chauvinists' who are 'mocking' Lithuanian culture and engage in 'witchunts' and so on. I have bad feeling that if such accusations persist, we will end up with Round 2 of the what we had before, and this was not pleasant for anybody invovled. PS. To a lesser extant, M.K. and Dr. Dan are not helping, and as for 'my side', I asked Halibutt to turn his attention to some non-Lithuania related articles, too, in order to defuse what I can. For starters, please don't taunt Halibutt like you did on his talk page. You don't see me annoying Ghirla, Lokyz or M.K. with such messages, do you? I suggest that per Halibutt post, you let time patch up bad karma between you. If you have little time for Wiki, there should be no need for you to devote so many posts to asking Halibutt 'if he really left', is there? Second, some posts by Lokyz and MK are offending to Polish contributors. Since you yourself complained that Polish editors are sometimes offending to Lithuanians (language mockery etc.) may I suggest we try to refrain from such actions, and activly criticize users 'from our side' who make such posts (I, as well as other Polish editors, have criticized Halibutt several times publicly on his talk page when I felt he stepped over the line, I'd appreciate if you and other Lithuanian ones would 'rein' the 'problematic users' on your side).-- _{Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus | talk}  02:01, 19 January 2007 (UTC)

I politly asked for articles on the subject that come up often in discussions with MK. I did not ask for a series of personal attacks. Halibutt and you is my business when I see one of you pestering the other one, just as when I see similar unconstructive actions carried by any editor on Wikipedia. And FYI, there is no war. There is just a couple of trolls (and I am not pointing fingers at any side) who try to destabilize the matter and push fringe POV, while the vast majority of nice guys on each side doesn't want to waste their time and stress themselves with related issues. Birthplaces of Lithuanian sportsmen

Why do you replace birthplaces of people, who were born in the USSR by "Lithuania"? Isn't it obvious, that there was no such country in 1940-1990, there was the Lithuanian SSR, a republic of the USSR? Hence, I believe, that saying "Kaunas, Lithuanian SSR, now Lithuania" or "Kaunas, USSR, now Lithuania" or just "Kaunas" is OK, but "Kaunas, Lithuania" is not, in such cases.

Also I'm always confused and questioned, when I see e.g. "Lithuania" or "Russia" as "nationality" in many articles and even with the flag present nearby sometimes, instead of using "Lithuanians" and "Russians". Although perhaps this doesn't concern you, but some other editors - I didn't dig into this so far. Cmapm 03:24, 15 January 2007 (UTC)

Re:Your comment at WP:RFI on Durova's page

Few points. The user has a right to ask for special priviliges, revisions or exceptions. Admins have no obligation to grant such wishes. I agree with Durova (no suprise) that it is a clear enough case: very few of Dr. Dan's contrubtions are constructive, instead, he wastes times of others in pointless and stressing flaming debates. And he can always reply on his talk page, up to using the 'unblock' template. Anyway, I find this statement puzzling: He might as well deserve to be blocked, but not like this. Do you think he should be blocked (clear yes or no, please :). And if 'yes, but not like this', then how? After we spend a month of several in WP:DR? I see no reason to waste time in DR on a user who almost never does anything constructive to our project, but wastes time of many creative contributors by flaming them on talk. This is not Ghirla, who while offending was one of the biggest content creators this project has ever seen... this is a user who is just offending and does little else. There are good reasons to cut through any 'red tape', deal with this nuisance and go back to work. could you come and say something about Pan-Polonism. I created a page but didn't noticed that such a pan-polonism probably don't exists at all and would mean not that thing which I wanted to display. I don't know how didvalstybinė lenkų ideologija, Lenkijos tapatinimas su LDK or something shoud be called in an article. It would be about an ideology which treats certain non-Polish lands as Poland‘s possession. Its matter would be something about denying GDL self dependence and likewise. Map of Duchy of Courland

Thanks for the "catch" on my map of the Duchy of Courland and Semigallia. The error stems from Shepherd's original map, which shows what Wikipedia calls the "Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth" as the "Kingdom of Poland". This is, as you may realize, not uncommon (e.g. "Partitions of Poland" and not "Partition of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth").

In any case, I have an idea on how to differentiate these various areas (e.g. Polish Livonia, etc) while still showing that they all were a part of the Commonwealth. I should get the change(s) up within the next day or so. It would be faster, but my day job keeps interfering (drat!!). Thanks again, MapMaster 04:39, 23 January 2007 (UTC)

Encyclopedia

Hi Renata - hope all is going well. Just wanted to let you know that I found Encyclopedia Lituanica at a Chicagoland library and they let me check it out...lugged home all 6 volumes. Am currently just surfing through it and using as a reference whenever. But if you have any specific requests, if you let me know, I'd be willing to write them up. Per a request on the project site, am planning to fill in the signatories of the Declaration of Independence - at a rate of 2 or 3 per day, should be done by Feb. 16th.

Also a request: this has occurred before but still can't figure out how to fix it; when I create an article, sometimes the title ends up in lower case, most recently Kaunas botanical garden. Could you, when you have a moment, fix it for me and tell me how you did it? Involves re-directing? Any way to prevent it from happening in the first place? Ok, my draft version of article is in my box, I am not satisfied with the article, main points are, which I hope you will help to resolve (you can always edit my box):

• Paragraph headlines, they are not good at all, especially with those Act's versions
• The paragraph placement is also questionable - maybe place Further developments as one of last paragraph and so on.
• Paragraph Structure of Act is important, but it looks terribly especially with the image! maybe some particular format would help?
• Declaration text probably would look better if it was justified from left and fight, how to do it?
• Did not manage to find any decent source about lost Act version.
• Impact paragraph maybe should be merged? or expanded with something additional?
• Genesis/ table I did not managed to changed colours properly see the first two top boxes, bottom line is not visible. Need help here too :)

Lithuanian given names

How do you think this should be organized? Like this maybe:

• Jonas - English equivalent: John
• Ona - English equivalent: Anne
• Gediminas - a xth century ruler of Lithuania

If one were to try and give some background on all the names currently on the list, though, a lot of them would have to come off; they could be re-entered by interested parties over time. On the other hand, this really would be a useful tool for non-natives who are visiting, conducting business, or doing genealogical research. What say? Novickas 16:41, 1 February 2007 (UTC)

Hi Renata. Did everyone decide during the snowstorm that they should work on their taxes? CP of Lithuania

Its a work in process. Both CPSU and other articles associated with it are a mess. I'm trying to bring some order in the situation, but I'm not sure of what the end result should be, and any suggestions are welcome. In short there needs to be a differentiation made between the following:

• Political parties that where merged into the CPSU
• Regional branches of CPSU (which could also have separate articles, but I'm not sure how to do with naming)
• Parties formed after the break-up of CPSU

My suggestion would be the following:

• Communist Party of Estonia, Communist Party of Latvia, Communist Party of Lithuania dealing with pre-CPSU parties.
• Articles like History of the Communist Party of Lithuania 1940-1991, which in its header clarifies that it deals with the history of LKP, Lithuanian territorial org of CPSU 1940-1991. Summaries of these articles (like 4-5 sentences) present in main CPSU article.

The problem is that there has to be a constitent policy. This doesn't just concern the Baltics, but also Ukraine, Belarus, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, etc.. It can seem that there is a direct continuation between pre-1940 and post-1940, and I don't dispute that in many cases that was the fact. The issue in creating articles is that, through the merger into CPSU(b), the LKP ceased to be an independent party. There needs to be a differentiation here. Also, the solution to the fact that the LKP article is just a stub at the moment is to expand that article. --Soman 17:01, 11 February 2007 (UTC)

the references are now formatted per cite web. i have tweaked the lead a little: could you explain how it fails to meet WP:LEAD? it is one full paragraph that stands alone as a concise overview of the article, establishing context, and summarizing the article content. there are no word-count guidelines at WP:LEAD, and one paragraph is generally enough for a list. UCINET deletion

I'm confused why my (very stubby) article on UCINET was deleted. It was given a db-spam tag, but I was really just trying to describe the software. I started the article because I had spent some time trying to figure out what this software was exactly (it was mentioned in class), and I thought a brief article at least mentioning what the software's intended use was would be better than nothing for others that found themselves in my position. I can assure you that I have no relationship with the makers of the software (and I wouldn't even recommend its use after researching it), but I'm not sure why it shouldn't have a page on Wikipedia. Maybe I'm just confused as to why some proprietary software is allowed a page and some is not. I was considering starting an article for Pajek, another software suite with similar intended use, but I'll wait to hear back on this first. Spud603 22:29, 19 February 2007 (UTC)

I'm really glad you guys all look at this so objectively. Just because they are not notible in your opinion its completely irrelevant. I was told I wasn't allowed to use the fact that they (yes, "they" being as I'm not part of the troupe as you apparently think) were in the top ten most subscribed to comedy podcast on iTunes because Apple does not post past records. They were, at one point, #8. They are currently #11 in comedy and #27 overall. That's not notable!?!

Unfortunately, that is not something that can be linked, but if you go and actually look, that is ahead of several other "notable" groups such as Olde English, Joe Cartoon, Queer Duck, and Comedy Central. As a matter of fact, they are actually featured RIGHT NOW on the podcast main page in the iTunes store. Too bad they are not good enough for a FREE ONLINE REFERENCE SITE!! Disagree? Let me know.
