Wikipedia and copyright edit

Hello Prodip K Roy, and welcome to Wikipedia. All or some of your addition(s) to Draft:Bangladesh Puja and Cultural Society of South Australia has had to be removed, as it appears to have added copyrighted material without permission from the copyright holder. While we appreciate your contributing to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from your sources to avoid copyright or plagiarism issues here.

  • You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and cite the source using an inline citation. You can read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Help:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
  • Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. (There is a college-level introduction to paraphrase, with examples, hosted by the Online Writing Lab of Purdue.) Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
  • Our primary policy on using copyrighted content is Wikipedia:Copyrights. You may also want to review Wikipedia:Copy-paste.
  • If you own the copyright to the source you want to copy or are a designated agent, you may be able to license that text so that we can publish it here. However, there are steps that must be taken to verify that license before you do. See Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
  • In very rare cases (that is, for sources that are public domain or compatibly licensed), it may be possible to include greater portions of a source text. However, please seek help at the help desk before adding such content to the article. 99.9% of sources may not be added in this way, so it is necessary to seek confirmation first. If you do confirm that a source is public domain or compatibly licensed, you will still need to provide full attribution; see Wikipedia:Plagiarism for the steps you need to follow.
  • Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied or translated without attribution. If you want to copy or translate from another Wikipedia project or article, you can, but please follow the steps in Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia.

It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. If you have any questions about this, you are welcome to leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. /wiae /tlk 13:14, 21 April 2016 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of ওপেন একসেস উইক ২০১৯ edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on ওপেন একসেস উইক ২০১৯, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, group, product, service, person, or point of view and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator.   You have an obvious conflict of interest and you must declare it. If you work directly or indirectly for an organisation, or otherwise are acting on its behalf, you are very strongly discouraged from attempting to write an article at all. If you are paid directly or indirectly by the organisation you are writing about, you are required by the Wikimedia Terms of Use to disclose your employer, client and affiliation. You can post such a mandatory disclosure to your user page at Prodip K Roy. The template {{Paid}} can be used for this purpose – e.g. in the form: {{paid|user=Prodip K Roy|employer=InsertName|client=InsertName}}. If you are being compensated, please provide the required disclosure. Note that editing with a COI is discouraged, but permitted as long as it is declared. Concealing a COI can lead to a block. Please do not edit further until you respond to this message. Also read the following regarding writing an article:

  • you must provide independent verifiable sources to enable us to verify the facts and show that it meets the notability guidelines. Sources that are not acceptable include those linked to the organisation or company, press releases, YouTube, IMDB, social media and other sites that can be self-edited, logs, websites of unknown or non-reliable provenance, and sites that are just reporting what the company or organisation claims or interviewing its management. Note that references should be in-line so we can tell what fact each is supporting, and should not be bare urls
  • The notability guidelines for organisations and companies have been updated. The primary criteria has five components that must be evaluated separately and independently to determine if it is met:
  1. significant coverage in
  2. independent,
  3. multiple,
  4. reliable,
  5. secondary sources.
Note that an individual source must meet all four criteria to be counted towards notability.

  • You must write in a non-promotional tone. Articles must be neutral and encyclopaedic, with verifiable facts, not opinions or reviews.
  • There shouldn't be any url links in the article, only in the "References" or "External links" sections.
  • You must not copy text from elsewhere. Copyrighted text is not allowed in Wikipedia, as outlined in this policy. That applies even to pages created by you or your organisation, unless they state clearly and explicitly that the text is public domain. We require that text posted here can be used, modified and distributed for any purpose, including commercial; text is considered to be copyright unless explicitly stated otherwise. There are ways to donate copyrighted text to Wikipedia, as described here; please note that simply asserting on the talk page that you are the owner of the copyright, or you have permission to use the text, isn't sufficient.

Before attempting to write an article again, please make sure that the topic meets the notability criteria linked above, and check that you can find independent third party sources. Also read Your first article. You must also reply to the COI request above.

Request reason:

Dear Jimfbleak, My name is Prodip. I understood well why I was blocked. The page I created was in Bangla language, and this should get published in Wikipedia Bangla page. I didn’t know before about this. As long as I tried to get this Bangla article published in English platform, your action in blocking me was correct. I have a very good intention to contribute to the open community with good faith. As a library professional, I have started contributing to the WikiData page to make an impact on the global community. I will follow the Wikipedia guideline to publish any new article from now on. It would be appreciated if you please unblock my account to let me start to contributing to the global society. Thank you so much for helping me learning Wikipedia Prodip K Roy (talk) 00:47, 16 February 2020 (UTC)Reply

Request reason:

Hi Yamla, Thank you for your feedback on the issues you have mentioned. First, I can ensure you that there is no conflict of interest (COI) editing on the article. I am aware of the COI and WP policy. My intention is to contribute to the global society voluntarily. There is no connection with WP paid contribution here. Finally, I would like to confirm that, I have been working with copyright issues since 2004. I completely follow the copyright guidelines and never been involved with copyright violation. Besides, I have been involving in promoting open licences, i.e., creative commons over the world for many years. I have been nominated as the affiliates lead responsible for Open Education (Tertiary) for Creative Commons CC Australia chapter. I am currently volunteering as the program committee member to arrange the 2020 Creative Commons Global Summit to be held in Lisbon, Portugal, on 14-16 May. Therefore, considering all of these, I am appealing to unblock my user ID to start contributing fairly. Thank you.

You state, "I can ensure you that there is no conflict of interest (COI) editing". Please explain, then, why this page lists a "Mr. Prodip Roy" as an executive committee member. This looks like a deliberate attempt to mislead us, but maybe you have an explanation as to how your claim is still truthful. --Yamla (talk) 14:13, 18 February 2020 (UTC)Reply

Request reason:

Hi Yamla, Thank you for your response. In response to your reference on COI, I agree with you. First, the article you have mentioned was my first attempt to publish on Wikipedia while I attended a Wikipedia editing training session arranged by the Wikimedia Foundation. The article was deleted by reviewers. Since I never attempted to publish the article and became inactive due to my other commitments. Secondly, my user ID was blocked for my Bangla article, not for the article you are referring to. I hope this statement will give you a fair and true fact. Again, I am committed to following the WP editing guidelines in my next article. Thanks for understanding Prodip K Roy (talk) 01:09, 19 February 2020 (UTC)Reply
