Hi Pdebee. Is there any action I need to take here. I am unsure of why something that I thought was closed 4 years ago is surfacing now. Thx for your help Pottablom (talk) 11:38, 3 June 2020 (UTC)Reply

Dear Pottablom,
Thank you for your query.
Since this is is your own talk page, you can do whatever you like here, within the existing guidelines, of course (see: Wikipedia:Talk page guidelines), and you can remove anything from it if you wish, or archive it if you prefer.
The text above reads exactly like the text displayed by the {{BLP}} template, which is issued automatically when you create a new page for a living person, as you obviously did for the article mentioned in the link (Julia Gretarsdottir). So, there is nothing for you to worry about, because if you had made an innocent mistake whenever you created or added content to the article, other editors would most certainly have noticed that and contacted you directly in order to assist you in some way, either with guidance or by taking action(s), such as reverting any controversial content that violated the BLP guidelines (see Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons). I hope this helped?
With kind regards; Patrick. ツ Pdebee.(talk)(become old-fashioned!) 13:33, 3 June 2020 (UTC)Reply
PS: If you want to reply to me from here, just code Dear {{U|Pdebee|Patrick}} below, after indenting your reply with two colons, i.e. one more than I added in the present reply to you (see WP:THREAD).
Patrick Thank you so much for taking the time to get back to me. I am a newbie and desperately trying to learn. Thank you again :) Pottablom (talk) 14:57, 3 June 2020 (UTC)Reply
Dear Pottablom,
Thank you for your reply. You're most welcome; always a pleasure to assist. Please feel free to contact me any time you get stuck, and I'll do my best to help you. There is a great deal of documentation about Wikipedia guidelines, best practices etc., and it takes a while to get used to it all. One good practice is always to complete an edit summary, because it really helps the other editors working on (or simply watching) the article(s) you're editing.
Also, when I started, I found it helpful to invest a bit of time everyday, to learn about how to do things here on Wikipedia; for example, by following the links that are shown on the Welcome! post immediately below. And, if you're intent on writing a lot of content, then the Manual of Style is obviously an important and helpful resource. When I welcome new editors, I like to use a different Welcome template, which I will add in a new section below; if you spend a bit of time everyday to learn by following the links in it, you might find that things will become gradually easier to understand, and therefore make it easier for you to contribute to our encyclopaedia.
In any case, feel free to keep in touch if you wish, or use the {{HelpMe}} template to request assistance from the helpful editors manning the Help Desk.
With kind regards; Patrick. ツ Pdebee.(talk)(become old-fashioned!) 16:03, 3 June 2020 (UTC)Reply
PS: Did you notice how I've added a colon (":") in front of the above text, to achieve the indentation recommended in WP:THREAD? So, if you were to reply to me here, you would be able to indent your own text by using ::::{{U|Pdebee|Patrick}}, with 4x colons before each of your paragraphs, like this... ::::. Therefore, in my next reply to you, I would increase the number of colons to 5x colons, and then you'd increase it to 6x colons when writing your following reply, and so on. That way, it's a lot easier to see the block of text for each iteration.
Hope this helped a little more.
With kind regards; Patrick. ツ Pdebee.(talk)(become old-fashioned!) 16:03, 3 June 2020 (UTC)Reply

August 2020 edit

Hello Pottablom. The nature of your edits gives the impression you have an undisclosed financial stake in promoting a topic, but you have not complied with Wikipedia's mandatory paid editing disclosure requirements. Paid advocacy is a category of conflict of interest (COI) editing that involves being compensated by a person, group, company or organization to use Wikipedia to promote their interests. Undisclosed paid advocacy is prohibited by our policies on neutral point of view and what Wikipedia is not, and is an especially serious type of COI; the Wikimedia Foundation regards it as a "black hat" practice akin to black-hat search-engine optimization.

Paid advocates are very strongly discouraged from direct article editing, and should instead propose changes on the talk page of the article in question if an article exists. If the article does not exist, paid advocates are extremely strongly discouraged from attempting to write an article at all. At best, any proposed article creation should be submitted through the articles for creation process, rather than directly.

Regardless, if you are receiving or expect to receive compensation for your edits, broadly construed, you are required by the Wikimedia Terms of Use to disclose your employer, client and affiliation. You can post such a mandatory disclosure to your user page at User:Pottablom. The template {{Paid}} can be used for this purpose – e.g. in the form: {{paid|user=Pottablom|employer=InsertName|client=InsertName}}. If I am mistaken – you are not being directly or indirectly compensated for your edits – please state that in response to this message. Otherwise, please provide the required disclosure. In either case, do not edit further until you answer this message.   — Jeff G. ツ 16:57, 25 August 2020 (UTC)Reply

@Jeff G.: Hi Jeff. No I am not a paid employee neither directly nor indirectly. I am a volunteer for the Icelandic Skating Association. If need be I can ask the board to verify that, just tell me where to send it. The only person compensated working for the skating association is the general manager, and Im not her. I have volunteered to document the skating history of Iceland for anyone interested in researching it. Im trying to do this to the best of my knowledge and properly cite and reference everything (you have probably looked up my history). I have 2 other pages to go and then Im done. I hope this is not a problem, and yes I have too much time on my hands :). Let me know if and where you want the verification.Pottablom (talk) 17:26, 25 August 2020 (UTC)Reply
Then please see WP:COI.   — Jeff G. ツ 00:44, 26 August 2020 (UTC)Reply
@Jeff G.: Hi Jeff. I have read what you sent and still fail to see how this should affect my contributions. All my articles state facts from reliable sources about historical events in skating in Iceland that have been documented. I am not paid for doing this nor do I gain anything my only aim is to fill a void about the subject on wikipedia. I am not making anything up, everything is factual. The subjects do all fall under wikipedias criteria of notable persons and statistical paged of results from our competitions are all verifiable. Please tell me why you feel I have conflict. As I said I have two pages to go (one to make from scratch and the other is fixing an old stub). I need to know if I should leave it to someone else.Pottablom (talk) 09:54, 26 August 2020 (UTC)Reply
Thank you. Please continue, but tell me: who are the photographers of the photos you uploaded?   — Jeff G. ツ 00:16, 27 August 2020 (UTC)Reply
Hi @Jeff G.: Thank you for your reply. As for photographers. The pictures are old so I dont know and photographers were not professionals rather just volunteers or parents even. I however know that the Association has explained that to the permissions people a few months ago. All pictures come from their official Flickr or the clubs Flickr. Thank you for your assistance Pottablom (talk) 10:02, 27 August 2020 (UTC)Reply
You're welcome. Do you have any examples of photo permissions for which "the Association has explained that to the permissions people a few months ago"? I'd like to review the OTRS ticket.   — Jeff G. ツ 12:16, 27 August 2020 (UTC)Reply
@Jeff G.: Hi , regarding the OTRS I have only asked for permission from the owner i.e. skating association here is one f. ex. https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:AldisKaraBergadottir_podium.jpg and here is another https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Sigurlaug_Árnadóttir_at_Nationals_2002.jpg Pottablom (talk) 18:07, 27 August 2020 (UTC)Reply

Request for assistance edit

Patrick I turn to you once again for help. If you could assist me with an input on whether I have COI in regards to contributing Iceland´s figure skating history on Wikipedia. I did so in good faith and am neither a paid employee nor compensated in any other way nor do I hope to be. You can see the conversation I have had here below on my talk page headlined as August 2020. I hesitate to contribute further in my contribution/edits are deemed against rules. Thank you for any assistance or clarification you might shed on this as I take it very seriously.Pottablom (talk) 17:31, 26 August 2020 (UTC)Reply

Dear Pottablom,
Thank you for pinging me. Yes, I have now seen your exchanges with Jeff G. in the August 2020 section immediately above. You have followed his advice and reviewed WP:COI, then made a genuine statement (in your response to him at 10:54 am today), confirming that you are not receiving payment for updating our encyclopedia. I am therefore inclined to assume good faith, because you are genuinely attempting to corroborate content with appropriate sources, even if some of the content in the article on Guðbjörg Guttormsdóttir, for example, still requires more sources for the facts you have added about her personal life. In any case, I would suggest that you wait until Jeff has responded to your latest post, since it is he who initiated that discussion at 5:57 pm, yesterday. I hope this helps for now.
With kind regards;
Patrick. ツ Pdebee.(talk)(become old-fashioned!) 20:01, 26 August 2020 (UTC)Reply
Dear Patrick . Thank you for your reply. I will revisit the sourcing. I have it at hand but will hold back until the response. Sincerely Pottablom (talk) 22:12, 26 August 2020 (UTC)Reply
Dear Pottablom,
Thank you for your latest reply, and I am pleased to see that Jeff has now also replied to you. Thank you also for planning to add more sources to your article(s). Personally, and to be on the safe side, I almost always ensure that each sentence is corroborated by at least one source; when you have the time, please see my recently published article about John R. Buckmaster as an example. Also, I hope you won't mind if I point out that you can improve your citations by using {{cite}} templates instead of bare URLs; and since you created your own articles, you can still change the formatting style of your references, per MOS:CITEVAR. So, if you decide you want to do that, then please feel free to ask for my assistance, and I'll be glad to convert a few for you, if necessary. In any case: good luck, best wishes, and thank you for filling the gaps on Icelandic skating in our encyclopedia.
With kind regards:

Dear Patrick. Thank you for your very kind offer. I do accept your help as I will need it. If you could show me with the first one then maybe I can figure out how to do the rest (if not I will seek help). I will look into better citations. That might take me a little longer but since its whats wrong with all of my contributions I better fix it everywhere. I will take a look at your article and in the meantime I humbly ask you to convert the Guðbjörg Guttormsdóttir article to you recommendation. Thank you, Jeff; you've beaten me to it!   I was also going to show Pottablom how to use Harvard-style referencing with the {{sfn}} template, in order to de-clutter the prose, and may well do that, then let him/her decide which s/he prefers.
With kind regards;
Patrick. ツ Pdebee.(talk)(become old-fashioned!) 16:08, 27 August 2020 (UTC)Reply
Dear Pottablom,
As you requested, I have now converted the five citations that Jeff had already kindly changed from bare URLs. In my single edit, I applied Harvard-style referencing, with {{sfn}} (short footnote) templates. If you decide you don't like that approach, then please feel free to revert back, which will only require one UNDO action on your part. The main benefit of this Harvard-style approach is that it relocates the lengthy {{cite}} templates and their parameters away from the body of the article and into the back matter sections, so as not to clutter the prose. I hope this helped, but I won't mind at all if you decide not to use that method. I remain available to help you change bare URLs in any or all of your other articles, using whatever referencing style you prefer. Please just feel free to ask.

Disambiguation link notification for November 29 edit

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Audrey Freyja Clarke, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Santana. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

Dear Þóra Guðrún,
I hope you are keeping well? All is well with me. The present post is to assist you with disambiguation of Santana.
Recently, I applied this edit, which you then changed again, here. However, there is no need to display the qualifier (band) to link to the correct page. That is to say, there is a difference between Santana (the disambiguation page) and Santana (the “piped” article about the band), even though they look the same to the reader: please click on both to see the difference between the two. The correct approach for linking to a piped page is explained at WP:FIXDABLINKS:
When repairing a link, use pipe syntax so that the link does not show the new qualifier. For example, when renaming Topic Name to Topic Name (qualifier), [[Topic Name (qualifier)|Topic Name]] will render as Topic Name just like the original.
Therefore, I will now re-apply the pipe again, so as to hide the qualifier (band), OK? I hope this helped. Please keep well and safe.

Dear Patrick Hope you are ok. I do have an additional question. I find the sources get quite bulky, is that OK? Thx Pottablom (talk) 11:53, 16 December 2020 (UTC)Reply
Dear Þóra,
I am so sorry to have missed the first of your two posts above. The reason is that the {{ping}} and {{U}} templates do not trigger the alert if they are coded in error, even after they are corrected later; in other words, they need to be coded correctly the first time around for the targeted user to see the alert. Having said that, thank you for submitting your second post above, which I have just seen this minute, and which therefore enabled me to see your initial request. I’d be delighted to assist you again, of course, as long as you don’t mind waiting a few days, until my desktop computer has been returned to me after it’s been repaired. (I am writing this reply from my iPad but I prefer to edit Wikipedia from my desktop and its big screen & physical keyboard.) To answer your recent question: yes, citations can get quite bulky when more than a few parameters are used, but that’s absolutely fine; don’t worry.
I promise to contact you again here as soon as I can, probably some time next week; I hope this is not too inconvenient to you; thank you for your understanding. Finally: yes, I am very well, thank you, and I hope the same applies to you  . More later, then!

File permission problem with File:WC L2655 FT 2021 emjo-eyes.photography.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading File:WC L2655 FT 2021 emjo-eyes.photography.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described in section F11 of the criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Whpq (talk) 00:21, 12 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

Hello! Voting in the 2021 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 6 December 2021. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2021 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:48, 23 November 2021 (UTC)Reply
