Your GA nomination of The Lightning Thief

The article The Lightning Thief you nominated as a good article has been placed on hold  . The article is close to meeting the good article criteria, but there are some minor changes or clarifications needed to be addressed. If these are fixed within seven days, the article will pass, otherwise it will fail. See Talk:The Lightning Thief for things needed to be addressed. Warrior4321

Dickens

"Review A Box of Novels" (Fraser's Magazine February 1844) by Thackeray

On Boz (Dickens) and the writing for "futurity" - "Shakespeare did not write for futurity; he wrote his plays for the same purpose which inspires the pen of Alfred Brunn ... to fill his Theatre Royal. And yet we read Shakespeare now. Le Sage and Fielding wrote for their public; and though the great Doctor Johnson put his peevish protest against hte fame of the latter, and voted him 'a dull dog, sir,-a low fellow,' yet somehow Harry Fielding has survived in spite of the critic, and Parson Adams is at this minute as real a character, as much loved by us as the old Doctor himself. What a noble, divine power this of genius is, which, passing from the poet into his reader's soul, mingles with it, and there engenders, as it were, real creatues,-which is as strong as history,-which creates beings that take their place by nature's own. All that we know of Don Quixote or Louis XIV we got to know in the same way - out of a book.... And so with regard to this question of futurity; if any benevolent being of the present age is imbued with a yearning desire to know what his great-great-grandchild will think of this or that author-of Mr. Dickens especially, whose claims to fame have raised the question- the only way to settle it is by the ordinary historic method. Did not your great-great-grandfather love and delight in Don Quixote and Sancho Panza? ... And so with Don Pickwick and Sancho Weller, if their gentle humors, and kindly wit, and hearty benevolent natures, touch us and convince us, as it were, now, why should they not exist for our children as well as for us, and make the twenty-fifth century happy, as they have the nineteenth?"

"As for the 'Christmas Carol,' or any other book of a like nature which the public takes upon itself to criticise, the individual critic had quite best hold his peace. One remembers what Bonaparte replied to some Austrian critics, of much correctness and acumen, who doubted about acknowledging the French Republic."

Critics going against the public view are to say to the people: "Come back to your ancient, venerable, and natural instructors. Leave this new, low, and intoxicated draught at which ye rush, and let us lead you back to the old wells of classic lore. Come and repose with us there. We are your gods; we are the ancient oracles and no mistake."

The response: "the children of the present generation hear not; for they reply, 'Rush to the Strand! and purchase five thousand more copies of the 'Christmas Carol.'... Who can listen to objections regarding such a book as this? It seems to me a national benefit, and to every man or woman who reads it a personal kindness. The last two people I heard speak of it were women; neither knew the other, or the author, and both said, by way of criticism, 'God bless him!' A Scotch philosopher, who nationally does not keep Christmas Day, on reading the book, sent out for a turkey, and asked two friends to dine-this is a fact! Many men were known to sit down after perusing it, and write of letters to their friends, not about business, but out of the fulness of heart, and to wish old acquaintances a happy christmas. Had the book appeared a fortnight earlier, all the prize cattle would have been gobbled up in pure love and friendship, Epping denuded of sausages, and not a turkey left in Norfolk."

The actual passages taken from the work are in the quotes. Ottava Rima (talk) 15:42, 4 September 2009 (UTC)

Christmas Carol tip

I noticed you put this up for GA. I'm not going to review the article, but as a tip, all section titles should have only the first word capitalized unless using proper nouns per WP:MoS. Cheers, Nikkimaria (talk) 16:40, 11 September 2009 (UTC)

GA review

Hi, you were in the middle of reviewing Anglo-Italian Cup when you stopped. I was just wondering if you had forgotten about it. Let me know if you don't have the time to review it anymore. Best wishes, Rambo's Revenge (talk) 14:04, 13 September 2009 (UTC)

I've addressed all the issues that you directly listed at Talk:Anglo-Italian Cup/GA1. The only thing I haven't done is your request of "Can you possibly add 1-2K text somewhere?". Basically I don't think I can, I've added one more short sentence to the lead, but without really unnecessary repetition I don't think I can do any more. As Chris rightly mentioned sources are pretty non-existent on this. If you have any suggestions please do let me know. Rambo's Revenge (talk) 22:55, 15 September 2009 (UTC)

help with deleting subpage referencing kathy lockton

Greetings. When someone does a google search on "david lockton wiki", two articles are listed. One is the article "David Lockton - Wikipedia" you helped me edit and launch. The other says "User:kathylockton/David Ballard Lockton - Wikipedia". How can I delete the second article so that it doesn't appear in a google search? Thanks.Kathylockton (talk) 16:30, 18 September 2009 (UTC)

That is a Google thing. The main article at Wikipedia has been deleted. Thanks, Pmlineditor  Talk 16:33, 18 September 2009 (UTC)

WP Novel Newsletter

Hi. I'm moving into university at the moment and we are having internet problems, so I doubt that I'll be able to do anything for this months newsletter. So the options are that you can write the whole thing, or post a message on people's talk pages apologizing for there not being a newsletter this month, and as soon as I'm online (which should be in the next couple of weeks - FYI I'm using a friends computer at the moment to check emails and stuff) we can get an early October newsletter out. If you reply on my talk page I may be able to respond in a couple of days. Sorry about this, but there's nothing I can do about it at the moment. Best regards, Alan16 (talk) 15:27, 21 September 2009 (UTC).

Ok fine. I'll do the latter - not possible for me to write the entire thing. I'll post the messages on the respective talk pages. And yes, an early October newsletter is fine with me. Regards, PmlineditorTalk 15:29, 21 September 2009 (UTC)
That seems like the best option. I should have internet soon, so I'll post back here when I'm online. Also, good timing, because I'm off now, so wouldn't be on again for a few days. Regards, Alan16 (talk) 15:41, 21 September 2009 (UTC).
Ok, I'll do it. Hope you have internet soon. Cheers, PmlineditorTalk 15:43, 21 September 2009 (UTC)

Recent account creation requests from Namibia (IP 196.*.*.*)

(I post this message to some account creators that recently have handled Namibian account requests)

Hi all, I just joined the ACC team, partly because I want to help out with our own students. Polytechnic of Namibia has only a few IP addresses over which everything is NATted. We have recently encouraged a number of first-year IT students to become active on WP to improve coverage of Namibia. Ever since (3 weeks ago) we have run into the 6-accounts-per-IP-per-day problem. Unfortunately, the IPs involved have collected a few warnings on vandalism but many new accounts have made edits that are constructive, or that are in the sandbox. Please agf in these cases as you have done before. Generally, all unique requests from accounts of the students.polytechnic.edu.na mail server should be okay. I can personally vouch that every unique account on this server belongs to one and only one person; students must be enrolled at our institution to obtain an email address from this server. If you have questions please contact me on my talk page. Thanks, Pgallert (talk) 17:09, 21 September 2009 (UTC)

I've created ~4 such accounts. I custom closed one, and created the account from the same email today. Cheers, PmlineditorTalk 17:10, 21 September 2009 (UTC)
