NominationEdit

Hey,

I saw that you would be willing to nominate users to become an administrator. I'm fairly new to wikipedia, but have really been enjoying working on counter-vandalism. If you could nominate me, I'd really appreciate it.

Schuddeboomw (talk) 16:16, 31 January 2016 (UTC)

Not to move in on Pedro's response, but since by your own admission you are a new editor and it appears as though you have <500 edits, it is highly unlikely that you would pass an RFA at this point in time, despite an endorsement by a veteran editor. I'd recommend waiting roughly about a year and several thousand edits before even contemplating running.  Wisdom89 talk 21:22, 9 February 2016 (UTC)

Wikipedia:Request an RfA nominationEdit

Hi, Pedro! I've moved you to the "inactive" section at Wikipedia:Request an RfA nomination because you don't seem to have been that active recently. Feel free to move yourself back at any time. APerson (talk!) 17:42, 13 April 2016 (UTC)

No, wise idea thanks - I'm likely to have some free time over the next few months but I can't make commitments so that was a good move.Pedro :  Chat  19:40, 13 June 2016 (UTC)

User:Dravecky, RIPEdit

I wanted to let you know that Dravecky (talk · contribs) died a few days ago. You co-nominated him for adminship with me back in 2008 (RfA). See Wikipedia:Deceased_Wikipedians/2016#Ed_Dravecky_III_(Dravecky) and his talk page for further details. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 04:05, 26 April 2016 (UTC)

How sad. Thanks for letting me know, most kind. :( Pedro :  Chat  19:35, 13 June 2016 (UTC)

WowEdit

RFA's shown in the universal box, passwords too short and lots of fun at ITN/C - wow - am I braced for this? I think I need to do a fair bit of background reading before hitting any buttons. Pedro :  Chat  19:47, 13 June 2016 (UTC)

Extended confirmed protectionEdit

Hello, Pedro. This message is intended to notify administrators of important changes to the protection policy.

Extended confirmed protection (also known as "30/500 protection") is a new level of page protection that only allows edits from accounts at least 30 days old and with 500 edits. The automatically assigned "extended confirmed" user right was created for this purpose. The protection level was created following this community discussion with the primary intention of enforcing various arbitration remedies that prohibited editors under the "30 days/500 edits" threshold to edit certain topic areas.

In July and August 2016, a request for comment established consensus for community use of the new protection level. Administrators are authorized to apply extended confirmed protection to combat any form of disruption (e.g. vandalism, sock puppetry, edit warring, etc.) on any topic, subject to the following conditions:

  • Extended confirmed protection may only be used in cases where semi-protection has proven ineffective. It should not be used as a first resort.
  • A bot will post a notification at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard of each use. MusikBot currently does this by updating a report, which is transcluded onto the noticeboard.
Please review the protection policy carefully before using this new level of protection on pages. Thank you.
This message was sent to the administrators' mass message list. To opt-out of future messages, please remove yourself from the list. 17:49, 23 September 2016 (UTC)

Two-Factor Authentication now available for adminsEdit

Hello,

Please note that TOTP based two-factor authentication is now available for all administrators. In light of the recent compromised accounts, you are encouraged to add this additional layer of security to your account. It may be enabled on your preferences page in the "User profile" tab under the "Basic information" section. For basic instructions on how to enable two-factor authentication, please see the developing help page for additional information. Important: Be sure to record the two-factor authentication key and the single use keys. If you lose your two factor authentication and do not have the keys, it's possible that your account will not be recoverable. Furthermore, you are encouraged to utilize a unique password and two-factor authentication for the email account associated with your Wikimedia account. This measure will assist in safeguarding your account from malicious password resets. Comments, questions, and concerns may be directed to the thread on the administrators' noticeboard. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 20:33, 12 November 2016 (UTC)

Thank you bot. Might let this bed in a while first, but noting the recent compromised accounts on WP I've changed my password. Pedro :  Chat  11:51, 15 November 2016 (UTC)

A new user right for New Page PatrollersEdit

Hi Pedro.

A new user group, New Page Reviewer, has been created in a move to greatly improve the standard of new page patrolling. The user right can be granted by any admin at PERM. It is highly recommended that admins look beyond the simple numerical threshold and satisfy themselves that the candidates have the required skills of communication and an advanced knowledge of notability and deletion. Admins are automatically included in this user right.

It is anticipated that this user right will significantly reduce the work load of admins who patrol the performance of the patrollers. However, due to the complexity of the rollout, some rights may have been accorded that may later need to be withdrawn, so some help will still be needed to some extent when discovering wrongly applied deletion tags or inappropriate pages that escape the attention of less experienced reviewers, and above all, hasty and bitey tagging for maintenance. User warnings are available here but very often a friendly custom message works best.

If you have any questions about this user right, don't hesitate to join us at WT:NPR. (Sent to all admins).MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 13:48, 15 November 2016 (UTC)

...to see how a long-term friendly face is doing. How are you, Pedro? :) Acalamari 08:32, 9 November 2017 (UTC)

Hello old friend! All is well, I'm still lurking in the corners (often just as an IP) doing bits. I trust all is well with you and yours? Pedro :  Chat  09:56, 10 November 2017 (UTC)
Ah, that's good to hear! :) Yep, I'm well! Not as active as I once was but I'm around still. It's amazing that I've known you and many others for over 10 years - feels as though it all could have been yesterday. Acalamari 23:00, 12 November 2017 (UTC)
Glad to see you're still doing well, Pedro. Best to and yours. ceranthor 22:16, 2 December 2017 (UTC)
And to you and yours as well my friend. Take good care. Pedro :  Chat  16:06, 4 December 2017 (UTC)

The failed login bollocksEdit

What twat decided notifying users about failed logins was a good idea? Over 30 emails in two days (now finally turned off). The idiocy level is outstanding. Pedro :  Chat  22:21, 6 December 2017 (UTC)

Dear me, another relentless bunch of notifications. What absolute idiot enabled this? Pedro :  Chat  22:56, 13 December 2017 (UTC)

Long time, no speakEdit

I know you're not around all the time. No hurry. Any idea what's going on with this page? Enigmamsg 21:23, 21 March 2018 (UTC)

(stalking) That's User:Luk. If you have an account on meta, you can have your userpage there disseminate to any local userpage of a WMF wiki without a page. So, for example, my meta userpage is a brief link back to enWiki, and I create no pages on commons or wikispecies or anywhere else, and everyone gets the same link. The issue is that Luk used to be m:User:Lucasbfr but was renamed; the Lucasbfr pages redirects to Luk at meta, but it's causing some weirdness here. ~ Amory (utc) 00:41, 22 March 2018 (UTC)
OK, thanks. Enigmamsg 00:44, 22 March 2018 (UTC)
It's rather confusing because it can't be edited even though it appears to be a page here. Plus, the link at the top invites you to go to his Wikipedia user page, which sends you right back to where you were. Enigmamsg 00:45, 22 March 2018 (UTC)
Oh that's weird indeed! :D. There used to be a redirect there... -- Luk talk 08:50, 22 March 2018 (UTC)
Thank goodness for stalkers who understand things! Cheers Amory! And hi all, slowly easing myself into a bit of work on here, having loitered as an IP for ages. Pedro :  Chat  08:53, 22 March 2018 (UTC)
