Peer Review

edit

Hi. I've dropped off some comments on Robert Holdstock at the peer review. Hope they're helpful, feel free to drop me a line if anything I've said is unclear. If you're in the mood, how about peer-reviewing Saruman, which is also up for review in the Lit and Lang section. Cheers. 4u1e (talk) 18:19, 12 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Wow! A while back I tried to put something together regarding Other Voices, Other Rooms, but everything I wrote I scrapped. What you wrote is great. Thanks for contributing. monroe transfer surprise delight 00:25, 10 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for your contributions to Joseph and His Friend: A Story of Pennsylvania and Strange Brother. It is my belief that pictures make a page far more alluring. Hunting the Snark

edit

Hello Neil, I see you keep on wikifying. I'm going bug you for another favor. I'm trying to insert a book cover image into my new wiki article Hunting the Snark but I'm getting no where. It is so puzzling to me. The image is in Wiki cyberspace under File:Hunting the Snark book cover.JPG. You are a master of inserting images into articles. Another wiki guy is willing to show me ropes but I wanted to consult with you first. Pjt48 (talk) 12:00, 25 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

Hi NPD. Thanks for improving the article - several layers of editing had produced an excessively long plot summary and it made sense to divide it. On reflection you are right about restoring the citation flag. Regards Buistr (talk) 02:40, 15 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

Proposed deletion of Earthsea Revisioned

edit

The article Earthsea Revisioned has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

unclear how this might meet WP:NBOOKS

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. --Tbennert (talk) 21:49, 24 April 2011 (UTC)Reply

ISBNs

edit

Regarding some of your recent edits of ISBNs: An ISBN 10 cannot be converted to an ISBN 13 simply by adding 978- at the beginning. The final digit of an ISBN is a check-digit (or checksum) that is the result of a mathematical operation performed on the preceding digits, so adding the three-digit prefix will (usually) mean also changing the final digit. (I say "usually" because occasionally the math works out so that the new checksum is the same as the old--and I suppose that a person who studied the math could tell you exactly how often this happens, but that person is not me.) So if you wish to convert an ISBN from 10 to 13, you will have to look up or calculate the new checksum. Worldcat and Amazon listings will often include both numbers, or you could use a conversion-calculation site, such as the one at Hahn Library. More information is available in the article International Standard Book Number. Cheers!--ShelfSkewed Talk 04:50, 11 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of Music for Chameleons (disambiguation)

edit

A tag has been placed on Music for Chameleons (disambiguation) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G6 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an orphaned disambiguation page which either

  • disambiguates two or fewer extant Wikipedia pages and whose title ends in "(disambiguation)" (i.e., there is a primary topic); or
  • disambiguates no (zero) extant Wikipedia pages, regardless of its title.

Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the disambiguation page guidelines for more information.

If you think that the page was nominated in error, contest the nomination by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion" in the speedy deletion tag. Doing so will take you to the talk page where you can explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but do not hesitate to add information that is consistent with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Wiki Loves Pride 2014

edit

Hi Npd. In case you are not aware, there is an upcoming campaign to improve coverage of LGBT-related topics on Wikipedia, culminating with an international edit-a-thon on June 21. See Wiki Loves Pride 2014 for more information. If you are interested, you might consider creating a page for a major city (or cities!) near you, with a list of LGBT-related articles that need to be created or improved. This would be a tremendous help to Wikipedia and coverage of LGBT culture and history. Thanks for your consideration, and please let me know if you have any questions! --Another Believer (Talk) 16:22, 9 May 2014 (UTC)Reply

You are invited to participate in Wiki Loves Pride!

  • What? Wiki Loves Pride, a campaign to document and photograph LGBT culture and history, including pride events
  • When? June 2015
  • How can you help?
1.) Create or improve LGBT-related articles and showcase the results of your work here
2.) Upload photographs or other media related to LGBT culture and history, including pride events, and add images to relevant Wikipedia articles; feel free to create a subpage with a gallery of your images (see examples from last year)
3.) Contribute to an LGBT-related task force at another Wikimedia project (Wikidata, Wikimedia Commons, Wikivoyage, etc.)

Or, view or update the current list of Tasks. This campaign is supported by the Wikimedia LGBT+ User Group, an officially recognized affiliate of the Wikimedia Foundation.
