Replaceable fair use File:Qaradawi-Jazeera.png

edit

Thanks for uploading File:Qaradawi-Jazeera.png. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. feydey (talk) 19:53, 1 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

Madhyamam Daily

edit

Because it's already in Category:Newspapers published in India. Newspapers are subcategorized by country and/or language, and are not simultaneously filed directly in Category:Newspapers at the same time. Bearcat (talk) 05:23, 6 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

Islam in India

edit

With reference to your undoing my edit on the Islam in India page: Famous or infamous with Indian Muslims. How can in a list of 15 "famous" Indian Muslims have two "Muslims" belonging to a political party which has not only a Hindutva idealogy but has a history of communalism? Shouldn't this list have people famous in with Indian Muslims? People with whom no one questions their religion credentials? Why is the pix of Shahnawaz and Naqvi so bright and in the centre of the collage? I hope you can understand what I mean and take corrective action (Khan.found (talk) 18:18, 9 April 2010 (UTC))Reply

cherman perumal edits...

edit

Hi nmkuttiady, thank u for ur suggestions regarding the cheruman perumal edits. My only intention was to clarify the names (of the several kings), to put them under proper contexts and to try to differentiate bw facts and legends(of the legend of Cheraman perumals' conversion). I am sure u will appreciate that. Menon's book p144-5 concerns ravi varma and not rama varma kulashekhara. pls let me knw wht u intented to convey from those pages. It would not be proper to indicate any ambiguity regarding the identity of rama varma kulshekhara nor about the title of Cheraman perumal. Any ambiguity is regarding the muslim legend and it has been given space in Rama Varma Kulashekhara's page. My arguments are based on works of Sreedhara Menon and Prof. MGS Narayanan. Please let me knw where i have not referenced any fact. I do not knw abt this 'Mark Wilks book'. I have not added any references from that work. It must have been a misunderstanding. Looking forwrd to ur suggestions. thanking u.

I have blanked the page as a continuing copyright problem as it reads as a close paraphrase, which is still a copyright violation. The page will be evaluated by an admin in a week for further rewrite or deletion. VernoWhitney (talk) 16:29, 27 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

Saffron terror

edit

Please see discussion on this page - Saffron terror, redirected from Hindutva terrorism. I feel the article is worthy of standing on its own, references are already available. Cool hindu (talk) 11:48, 18 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

Orphaned non-free media (File:Madhyamam_Newspaper.png)

edit

Thanks for uploading File:Madhyamam_Newspaper.png. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Melesse (talk) 02:47, 7 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Indian Muslims pic

edit

Hi, i suggest that you re-upload the lead image and remove Javed Akhtar from it. He is an Atheist. Regards. Joyson Noel Holla at me 09:41, 28 November 2010 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the comment Joyson. There are two ways of defining a person's religious identity - by his community/birth and his religious views on God. By and large, on wikipedia, the former has been the norm. Javed himself is the president of "Muslims for Secular Democracy". Its normally called the practising muslim and non-practising muslim divide.NMKuttiady (talk) 10:32, 28 November 2010 (UTC)Reply
Well, here is what Javed Akhtar says in his own words. In the following source, he clearly states in no uncertain words that he is an Atheist and does not even hint that he is a Muslim, even in the cultural sense.
http://www.rediff.com/chat/javechat.htm

Since I am an atheist, I have no concept of any life before or after this life. I believe that human society is a club and I have been give temporary membership, with lot of privileges. So, before quitting, it becomes my moral duty, as a decent member of club, to contribute something towards the club. To me, that is life and that is the purpose of the life.

As you can see, Javed Akhtar, in the above quote, clearly states that he is an Atheist. Even a non-practising Muslim believes in Allah and Muhammad as his prophet. Unless you can find a reliable source in which Javed Akhtar identifies himself as a Cultural Muslim, the image must go. Joyson Noel Holla at me 18:29, 28 November 2010 (UTC)Reply
He's founding president of "Muslims for Secular Democracy". Isn't that enough?NMKuttiady (talk) 18:31, 28 November 2010 (UTC)Reply

Well, leave it. It seems you are right. He is a member of "Muslims for Secular Democracy". That should mean that he identifies himself as religiously Atheist and culturally Muslim. Odd! Joyson Noel Holla at me 18:33, 28 November 2010 (UTC)Reply

Mappila Songs‎

edit

Shouldn't we have an article about this person, who is considered to be one of the doyens of Mappila songs? Salih (talk) 06:12, 27 November 2010 (UTC)Reply

Sure. There are a lot more others who deserve an article in there. Esp PT Abdurahman and T Ubaid the great poets and many many others. There is not even an article on Seethi Sahib, the architect of Mappila renaissance. Lots of work to do if someone's willing. I'd like to clean that Mappila article first. Mappila‎

edit

What are you doing there? Your simply adding more and more Jamate islamis to that front photo Mappilas.png. EACH FACTION MUST HAVE EQUAL SHARE. I WILL REMOVE THIS FROM ALL ARTICLES UNTIL YOU RESTORE THAT IMAGE WITH SUITABLE PROPORTION. (Rameez pp (talk) 05:58, 26 December 2010 (UTC))Reply

Dear Rameez
Thanks for the feedback. I think your tone should be a little more in accordance with the AGF principles of wikipedia. In particular, for all online conversations, words in CAPS are considered shouting for online communication. Similarly a threatening tone in a peer talk pages is not a great idea either.
About the mappilas picture, in articles similar to this, the infobox picture is typically a collection of the people from the particular group/community who have a WP:BLP in wikipedia. All the pictures I've included are those who have an article in wikipedia and belong to the mappila community. I've checked each of the people in this list, List of Mappilas, but most of them don't have a picture included. A very few have some screenshots in place, which can be deleted anytime once a reviewer comes across it. I've tried to include all people in the collage who have photographs in their corresponding wikipedia articles.
In fact I've even tried to request a lot of people in flickr and elsewhere to either upload their photographs to wikipedia or release the photos under a commons license, but no responses have come so far. I've given those requests for many photographs of Kanthapuram, IUML leaders and many others. I don't have any photographs of theirs personally either. In this situation, there's little I can do to diversify the collage unless someone comes up with proper individual photos. If you have any, please upload them. But avoid uploading ones like the Malabar Rebellion photographs that you uploaded from CK Ramachandran Nair's calicut history blog without clarifying the license.NMKuttiady (talk) 10:45, 27 December 2010 (UTC)Reply
