Monuments edit

Thanks for your presentation at the Wiki Salon, and nice to meet you. Before driving home I went out and got some night shots of some missing SF monument sites. See this diff. Not likely to win any prizes, though. Dicklyon (talk) 06:14, 29 September 2016 (UTC)Reply

Thanks and nice meeting you too. These night shots are great! You got the Burr House, excellent. Thank you!! Nikikana

WLM judging edit

I can't log in. I clicked your link to https://tools.wmflabs.org/montage-beta/#/login and picked the "Sign in using Wikimedia" button; this took me to somewhere at Meta, with a similar button that I clicked, and it took me back to the original page. I've re-clicked the signin button, but now it's not taking me anywhere: it just sits at the montage page. Nyttend (talk) 15:13, 11 October 2016 (UTC)Reply

Hi Nyttend, do you see an icon of a face in the upper right corner of the page when you are logged in? If so, click there and you should get a drop down that includes "juror panel," click on that and it should take you to Round 1. Please try that and let me know. Nikikana (talk) 17:40, 11 October 2016 (UTC)Reply

At the top of https://tools.wmflabs.org/montage-beta/#/login, I see three horizontal lines at the left, with montage BETA immediately to their right. Below, I see a big circular logo, below that "Sign in using Wikimedia", and below that "You will be redirected...", plus some technical links at the very bottom of the page. That's all that I see there, and when I click "Sign in using Wikimedia", it merely refreshes the page. I've configured my browser to accept all cookies from all WMF-related sites, so it's not some sort of cookie problem. Nyttend (talk) 17:53, 11 October 2016 (UTC)Reply
Can you confirm what version of the frontend you are seeing? The lower right hand corner should read 16.10.15. Nikikana (talk) 18:22, 11 October 2016 (UTC)Reply
if you don't see 16.10.15, try shift refresh Nikikana (talk) 18:25, 11 October 2016 (UTC)Reply

2017 Art And Feminism Wikipedia Editathon @ CCA edit

Hi Nikikana
Thank you for attending the 2017 Art+Feminism edit-a-thon at the California College of the Arts Simpson Library.
I'm planning on "virtually attending" your event too! ...i.e. editing while my kid naps ;) Is there a program page I should sign up on?

It was great editing with you! --Jscarboro (talk) / Jennine

Typo in promotion link for Art+Feminism@SFAI_2017 edit

This link had a problem with the "+" sign, it converted the "%2B" (+) to "%252B". Change https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Meetup/San_Francisco/Art%252BFeminism@SFAI_2017 to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Meetup/San_Francisco/Art%2BFeminism@SFAI_2017 or whatever it needs prerendering. Feel free to delete this when fixed. Thanks for the "Thanks"! StrayBolt (talk) 02:38, 25 March 2017 (UTC)Reply

Hi StrayBolt, thank you for this information - but I do not understand where this link is that you refer to. Can you please clarify where and in what promotion this link appears so I can fix it? Thanks! Nikikana (talk) 04:21, 25 March 2017 (UTC)Reply
This appears on the top when I look at my Watchlist (don't know where it came from): "You are invited to an Art and Feminism Wikipedia Edit-a-thon inside an art installation at the San Francisco Art Institute on Saturday March 25 from 1-5 PM. See the event page for details."
Oh, that's our geonotice! That's too bad. Thanks for letting me know, I've requested it be fixed if that's possible in time. Nikikana (talk) 06:26, 25 March 2017 (UTC)Reply

Art+Feminism@SFAI 2017!! edit

Hi Nikikana, Hope the real-life edit-a-thon is getting off to a good start? I'm gonna begin work on a page for Ecofeminist scholar Gloria Feman Orenstein. If that goes well, and depending on how long my kid naps, I might also embark on a Xylor Jane page (saw them on your Meetup list). Happy Editing! Or, I should probably say, Happy Edit-a-thon Running! :) Jscarboro (talk) 20:35, 25 March 2017 (UTC)Reply

Hi Jscarboro! Thank you so much for your note and for joining us virtually today and for creating and developing this citation-rich article on Gloria Feman Orenstein! I was not familiar with her before, but as an appreciator of both surrealism and the stage (and now observing how little I know about female surrealists..), I am excited to learn more about her and her work - many thanks! The in-person event today went very well and we are definitely going to have more edit-a-thons/other Wiki events at SFAI in the future, hope you can join one of those. Also we started an email list for our group who worked together today (and wishes to more in the future) where we will follow up with a summary of our contributions during the event; please email me if you would like to be added to it. We will also post outcomes to the meetup page soon. Thanks again and happy editing! Nikikana (talk) 04:44, 26 March 2017 (UTC)Reply
Hi Nikikana, I just created an article (Siona Tagger), thinking my work was part of the Art+Feminism@SFAI 2017 (remotely), but apparently not. It turns out I needed to enter a passcode(?). How do I join? AnyKelley (talk) 23:00, 25 March 2017 (UTC)Reply
Hello AnyKelley, thanks for your note and I am sorry to miss you. The in-person event was very busy and I did not see your message until after it was too late. But your work will still be part of it - We will add it manually to the data captured via the dashboard page that I gather you are referring to. If it is not too much trouble could you tell me what link you followed and where you found it where it asked you for a passcode? I thought I made sure all the links had the passcode in them, so it would be helpful to know where that manifested. In any case, thank you so much for participating and for creating the article on Siona Tagger, and accordingly introducing myself and many others to her work and life. Please email me if you want to be added to the email list we created today among the participants who want to keep the Art+Feminism editing energy alive in the Bay Area. Thanks and cheers! Nikikana (talk) 04:44, 26 March 2017 (UTC)Reply
Thanks, and sorry for not replying earlier (I don't login often). I simply followed the link on the event page on Wikipedia AnyKelley (talk) 00:37, 4 April 2017 (UTC)Reply

Rally and protest photos on Commons edit

Hi, it was good to chat with you at today's photo walk. You asked about where I've been putting all those rally and protest photos I've been uploading to Commons. Most of them are in c:Category:Demonstrations and protests against the presidency of Donald Trump in San Francisco; the parent categories have many more protest photos from all over the world. I also have some good ones at c:Category:Dakota Access Pipeline protests in San Francisco and in a few other categories. Funcrunch (talk) 03:52, 7 September 2017 (UTC)Reply

Oh and MB298 is the editor I mentioned who has been finding tons of great protest pix on Flickr and creating lots of Commons categories for them. Funcrunch (talk) 05:31, 7 September 2017 (UTC)Reply

Event coordinator edit

Hi, the English Wikipedia recently created a new user permission for editors involved in off-wiki outreach work, event coordinator. This new permission allows users to mark accounts for confirmed for up to 10 days, and also allows them to create accounts for events without rate limits without some of the features of the account creator right that aren't used at edit-a-thons and other events. I have added the event coordinator permission to your account for 90 days to assist with any events you may have coming up and removed the account creator permission, as you appear to have been using it mainly for outreach work.

This should have no noticeable impact on your ability to create accounts at upcoming events, and will give you the extra ability to temporarily confirm accounts if you need to. If you need the event coordinator permission again after it expires, you can make a request here. For more information, you can see the information page on the right, or you can ask me if you have any questions. TonyBallioni (talk) 17:17, 22 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

Event coordinator granted edit

After reviewing your request for the "eventcoordinator" permission, I have temporarily enabled the flag on your account until 2019-02-19. Keep in mind these things:

  • The event coordinator right removes the limit on the maximum number of new accounts that can be created in a 24-hour period.
  • The event coordinator right allows you to temporarily add the "confirmed" permission to newly created accounts. You should not grant this for more than 10 days.
  • The event coordinator right is not a status symbol. If it remains unused, it is likely to be removed. Abuse of the event coordinator right will result in its removal by an administrator.
  • Please note, if you were previously a member of the "account creator" group, your flag may have been converted to this new group.

If you no longer require the right, let me know, or ask any other administrator. Drop a note on my talk page if you run into troubles or have any questions about appropriate/inappropriate use of the event coordinator right. Happy editing! TonyBallioni (talk) 20:47, 6 February 2019 (UTC)Reply

Thanks, TonyBallioni! Much appreciated, and I will be vigilant about observing the notes you've listed above. Thanks! Nikikana (talk) 20:51, 6 February 2019 (UTC)Reply

Prelinger Talk edit

"Surprising Evidence Revealing Vanished Landscapes through Nontraditional Moving Images" <-- this is the talk Rick Prelinger is giving next Tues., 12-Feb, at Berkeley (in case you were curious!).

Either way, I'm excited to hear about next weekend's Prelinger Library Wiki-a-thon at our next BAWS. Stussll (talk) 06:46, 8 February 2019 (UTC)Reply

Thanks Stussll! Hope to see you at the library! Nikikana (talk) 18:14, 11 February 2019 (UTC)Reply

  • Hi Nikikana, do you anticipate more events this year? As you've done this a few times we can issue this for a longer period if needed. (Please ping me in a reply or use my talk). — xaosflux Talk 20:06, 21 August 2019 (UTC)Reply
    • Hi @Xaosflux:, thanks so much! We are hoping to do some more events this year. We are tentatively planning on doing one every 3-4 months. If this meets the criteria to issue the permissions for a longer period, that would be great. And if not, just let me know and I'll continue requesting permissions each time. Thanks! Wikisalons? edit

Hey Niki! Hope you're doing well! I was just wondering if there's any status on when the next WikiSalon will be? If you need any help organizing, or if I can be of any assistance with any other snags, let me know! Best, Kevin (aka L235 · t · c) 00:23, 23 September 2019 (UTC)Reply

Hi Kevin @L235:! Thanks for reaching out and for your interest! We have been discussing having another edit-a-thon in February, but haven't set any details yet. We're not sure if there's bandwidth to do another more salon-y type event at WMF before that (perhaps in November or December, although with the holidays it may be a challenge). If there is movement on this, would you be interested in helping out? Thanks again for your interest! Nikikana (talk) 18:00, 23 September 2019 (UTC)Reply
Also, there is an edit-a-thon coming up in Stockton on October 11, hosted by the University of the Pacific Libraries, which a couple of the BAWS organizers are helping with. Here is a FB page with more info on the event, and I'm pinging @Ben Creasy: and @Cinnamingirl:, the BAWS organizers who are planning to attend if you want to get in touch. Cheers! Nikikana (talk) 18:14, 23 September 2019 (UTC)Reply
Hi @L235:! Niki is right, I'll be attending the edit-a-thon next week and am happy to carpool with you if you would like a ride (I'm in Dublin), or the library running the event will also be giving rides from the Concord area if that's closer for you. Let me know! Cinnamingirl (talk) 21:35, 30 September 2019 (UTC)Reply
Thanks both! Unfortunately I won't be able to make it to the Stockton editathon due to a conflict, but I'd be happy to help if I can with any WikiSalon! Kevin (aka L235 · t · c) 03:18, 1 October 2019 (UTC)Reply
