A little input
I've been working with Fractyl for a while, and you recently popped in to help me with some Japanese related assistance, so I'm wondering if you could look over my response to him here, and give me some input on whether or not I should change my criteria.—Ryūlóng (竜龍) 06:15, 31 July 2007 (UTC)
- I'll have to think on it for a bit. I'm not really sure what I could add other than "See WP:MOS-JA, which covers what you're discussing." ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 06:41, 31 July 2007 (UTC)
- Well, whatever input you can give me would be great. Also, I need help with the translations that had been developed for geki (激) and rin (臨) for the particular series that the discussion is currently about. I'm not sure if "Fierce" and "Confrontation" (respectively) are correct.—Ryūlóng (竜龍) 10:01, 31 July 2007 (UTC)
- 激 can be translated as "ultra", "violent", "fierce", "enraged", and similarly. What is the context? 臨 can be translated "confront", "face" (as in "to face someone" or "to face up to someone"). Context will help determine the best translation. ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 00:29, 1 August 2007 (UTC)
- They're the fictional martial arts styles in Gekiranger. I have them as Fierce Beast-Fist and Confrontation Beast-Fist. Those articles will show you all context there would be.—Ryūlóng (竜龍) 03:33, 2 August 2007 (UTC)
- I think those translations are as good as they'll likely ever be. ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 18:38, 5 August 2007 (UTC)
Cut-and-paste moves
Whoops. When I found out that I couldn't move them via the move log, I tried to move them to cut-and-paste. Sorry about that. :) Thanks for your comments. All the best. Greg Jones II 00:23, 1 August 2007 (UTC)
- If you need help moving an article properly when the name you want is already taken, feel free to ask me and I'll be glad to help. It will save a lot of hassle in the long run to do it correctly the first time. Thanks! ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 00:25, 1 August 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks! I am considering a move from Showtaro Morikubo to Shōtarō Morikubo per MOS-JA. Greg Jones II 01:32, 1 August 2007 (UTC)
Wikistalking reverting
Hi, Joe. User:PHG has been reverting all edits I've made to articles to make them consistent using BC/AD, just because we've had a dispute over whether to use BC/AD or BCE/CE. I can understand if he doesn't accept my arguments to revert consistent usage to an earlier version, but where they were inconsistent and I made them consistent (whilst using the earliest non-stub as a guide) he should accept the fact I got there to rectify those problems. He is dismissing WP:MOS by insisting BC/AD cannot be used on "non-Christian" articles when the guidelines do not limit its use that way. John Smith's 11:58, 5 August 2007 (UTC)
- It seems like you are already discussing this elsewhere. I don't see any evidence of stalking, just that you two don't seem to get along wherever you meet. ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 18:33, 5 August 2007 (UTC)
Requested move for Kurama
Dear Nihonjoe/Archive 24, seems you edit YuYu Hakusho-related pages from time to time. I've started a survey on Talk:Kurama (YuYu Hakusho)#Requested move and you're more than welcome to place your thoughts there, if you'd like. Thank you. Lord Sesshomaru 20:42, 5 August 2007 (UTC)
- I'm mostly a drive-by editor for those articles, but I've left a comment. ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 21:27, 5 August 2007 (UTC)
- I decided to oppose this - "Yoko," meaning "Demon Fox," is actually a title, not a name. Kurama's name IS Kurama. Also, in the usage of the series, "Yoko Kurama" or "Demon Fox Kurama" (this depends on whether one watches the English anime or reads the English manga) refers to a specific superpowered form of Kurama. Likewise, "Jaganshi" Hiei (Or Hiei "Jaganshi" - I do not know which) is also a title added to the name. The English manga translates "Jaganshi" as "of the Evil Eye." Again, Hiei is the guy's name, and "Jaganshi" is a title. WhisperToMe 22:29, 5 August 2007 (UTC)
- That's fine, please post your arguments there, not here. This is the incorrect place to discuss the matter. ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 02:51, 6 August 2007 (UTC)
- As per the Kurama debate, Sesshomaru's argument is incorrect in the series' context. I will pull a quote from the website and prove it. This will null the arguments used to support the "Support move" votes. WhisperToMe 23:37, 5 August 2007 (UTC)
- When you go to the YYH website, look at Kurama's profile- his spirit skills include [1]:
- "Yoko Kurama
- - Fifteen years before the Dark Tournament, the spirit fox Yoko Kurama was thought to have been killed while escaping from a botched burglary. In desperation he hid himself in the world of the living, using a human body to slowly recover his energy. Kurama reverted to his true form after Ura Urashima unleashed the power of the Idunn Box. "
- In other words, "Yoko Kurama" specifically refers to Kurama's true form. FUNi simply screwed up while making that poll. Naming Kurama "Yoko Kurama" would be like calling Son Goku "Super Saiyan Goku." WhisperToMe 23:48, 5 August 2007 (UTC)"
- I'm not seeing what you're seeing as it's not uncommon to use only part of a name to refer to someone after using the full name prior in the comment. And your Goku argument is irrelevant and specious. ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 02:51, 6 August 2007 (UTC)
- Okay...
- Kurama has two forms: a "human" form, and his true "demon fox" form
- 1. Kurama = Can refer to the character in any of his forms. Yusuke and several main characters call him "Kurama"
- 2. Shuichi Minamino = Kurama's human name. Often this refers to his human form, although I saw a character in the Dark Tournament in the manga refer to Kurama as "Shuichi Minamino" while he is in his "Demon Fox Kurama" form
- 3. "Demon Fox" Kurama a.k.a. Yoko Kurama = "Demon Fox" is a title, since Kurama is a demonic fox. Since Kurama had to go into an undeveloped human embryo to evade death, he was forced to change form from his original, true form. When "Yoko Kurama" is used in YuYu Hakusho, it refers to the specific true form, which had existed prior to when Kurama adopted the "human" form. WhisperToMe 03:14, 6 August 2007 (UTC)
- I hate to be rude, but you obviously aren't reading what I write. Let me try again: Do not make your argument here. This is not the place to be making your arguments. That place is over here. I've already made comments over there, and I'm watching that location for discussion about this. There's no need to clutter up my talk page with arguments you are already making over there. Again, I'm sorry if this comes off as sounding rude, but you're wasting my time making me look in two different places for the same argument. ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 03:19, 6 August 2007 (UTC)
Request
Please revert the Obama (disambiguation) page. It should not be redirected to Mr. Barack Obama, a young American politician who is little known outside the USA. SNPBrown 06:29, 7 August 2007 (UTC)
- Most people searching for "Obama" on the English Wikipedia will be looking for Barack Obama, especially given that he's one of the more popular candidates for the US presidency in 2008. The disambig link at the top of that article is acceptable for anyone looking for something else. ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 06:34, 7 August 2007 (UTC)

She may be underage, but she's OK at WP!
A moment's surprise here when I see that this was simply "kept", without any comment. And then it dawned on me that I'd forgotten to vote. Oops! -- Hoary 16:05, 7 August 2007 (UTC)
WikiProject Japan taskforces
In order to encourage more participation, and to help people find a specific area in which they are more able to help out, we have organized taskforces at WikiProject Japan. Please visit the Participants page and update the list with the taskforces in which you wish to participate. Links to all the taskforces are found at the top of the list of participants.
Please let me know if you have any questions, and thank you for helping out! ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 00:59, 8 August 2007 (UTC)
- Hi, & thanks for the invitation :) But I must confess that I am incurably anachronistic re. tech-y stuff (read: Luddite). So I did finally figure out how to change one of my "no" boxes to a "yes," but I cannot figure out how to use the project template to add it to my user page. If you try to explain it I'll probably miss something & get inordinately frustrated. ....So can you please do me a huge favor and add it for me? WP:CVU status
The Wikipedia:Counter-Vandalism Unit project is under consideration to be moved to {{inactive}} and/or {{historical}} status. Another proposal is to delete or redirect the project. You have been identified as a project member and your input as to this matter would be welcomed at WT:CVU#Inactive.3F and at the deletion debate. Thank you! Taskforces...
We should have history and literature taskforces. My own expertise is Edo Lit, but I know enough of classical and modern to be of use, so if you want to set up a lit taskforce with period subdivs, I'll head the whole thing. My history comes from crossover with literature, so I'm a little weaker there.MSJapan 20:54, 10 August 2007 (UTC)
- Feel free to be bold and create them by going to Wikipedia:WikiProject Japan/History and Wikipedia:WikiProject Japan/Literature. No need to ask me. You may want to bring it up on the project talk page, though, so others can give input. (^_^) ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 00:00, 11 August 2007 (UTC)
Zyutu (zyuQ)
My new AfD-jutsu is unstoppable, Joe. What do you think of jutsu now? I'm dubious myself, but then again there's all this crap. Anyway, it was fun to rewrite. -- Hoary 07:43, 12 August 2007 (UTC)
- It actually looks much better now, and I'm glad to have a decent option other than redirecting to a Naruto article. It may be useful to have a section linking to existing entries which use it. Likely all of them will be the various martial arts, but... ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 21:00, 12 August 2007 (UTC)
Disingenuous.
Is what I'd call your portrayal of the Talk discussion. Also, per the instructions at the top of my User_talk page, content issues you may have belong on their respective articles' talk pages, not my user space. Italiavivi 21:19, 12 August 2007 (UTC)
- Now you're the one ignoring your own rules. I've replied there. ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 21:31, 12 August 2007 (UTC)
Protection
Should Obama be protected as well? It currently points back to the DAB page, as it originally did, and not the politician article. Neier 23:28, 12 August 2007 (UTC)
- It should be protected from being moved. I'm pretty sure I did so. ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe
- Thanks for trying to get things resolved, and sorry to see you get dragged into the mess like that. I admit, I was a bit surprised to see everything spiral out of hand so quickly. It was very hard to remain WP:CIVIL with accusations and edit summaries like this flying around. Luckily, I'm still in the process of returning from my wikibreak, so, the amount of time I could devote to replying was limited (it probably was for the best)... Anyway, at least another uninvolved admin has been brought in via ANI and reset things like they were before your RM. I still want to see the redirect from Obama -> be abolished; but, I'm leery of bringing it to WP:RFD so quick after all the mess yesterday. Neier 04:17, 14 August 2007 (UTC)
- Let me know how it turns out. I have better things to do than deal with people such as that. ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 04:46, 14 August 2007 (UTC)
Genki Horiguchi
The page on Genki Horiguchi was deleted by you, reason cited being no assertion of notability. However, the notability was in fact asserted by me, with no one debating it. I would appreciate an explanation as to why the page was deleted. McJeff 07:44, 13 August 2007 (UTC)
- There was no assertion of notability in the article itself, and therefore met the speedy deletion requirements. You can say that's the subject of an article is notable all you want, but unless you put it into the article and back it up with reliable sources, it will be deleted. ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 00:43, 14 August 2007 (UTC)
Beyer Subaru
Yesterday you removed the speedy deletion tag from Beyer Subaru. In the page history, you indicated you thought it was notable; more importantly, you suggested that speedy deletion wasn't the way to handle. First of all, thank you. You are right of course.
Today, the same user that put the tags on yesterday, User:Calton, put them back on. I just wanted to bring this to your attention, and see if you might be able to assist this process in some manner and remove the tags again.
Questions, comments, help welcome! Journalist1983 16:17, 13 August 2007 (UTC)
- Update...never mind. I conceded defeat and removed my objection. Thanks anyway. Journalist1983 16:59, 13 August 2007 (UTC)
- If you think it shouldn't have been deleted, please take it up at Deletion Review. ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 00:41, 14 August 2007 (UTC)

AfD nomination of Heritage Makers
Heritage Makers, an article you created, has been nominated for deletion. We appreciate your contributions. However, an editor does not feel that Heritage Makers satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in the nomination space (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and the Wikipedia deletion policy). Your opinions on the matter are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Heritage Makers and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~). You are free to edit the content of Heritage Makers during the discussion but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion discussion. Re: Toei Company
In response to an anonymous Request to Translate that I found at the top of "Toei Company" as of 15:46, 4 August 2007 (UTC), I wrote a new Top based on ja:東映. I also did a rough translation of the first portion of the History section, ja:東映#沿革, on a subpage (see User:B.C.Schmerker/Article Prototype4) but didn't add it to the working translation, given my lack of experience with the Japanese language with respect to HistInfo. What errors to date on this expansion? - B.C.Schmerker 03:02, 19 August 2007 (UTC)
- Go ahead and post any additions to the article. There are plenty of people around who can clean up a translation and settle things into standard English. What I saw looks good. ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 05:07, 19 August 2007 (UTC)

Public bathing in Japan
Thought I'd let you know that I've posted a reply to your idea over at Talk:Sentō. It sounds like you might be in agreement that the article shouldn't be confined just to sentō, but rather expanded to public bathing in Japan in general (which is how a permanent redirect from public bathing in Japan to sentō could make sense). Wikipedia Japan's article on 公衆浴場 (public bath) notes the legal distinction between "普通公衆浴場" (or sentō) and "その他の公衆浴場" (which includes e.g.: sauna buro, kenko land, super sento). --MangoCurry 04:10, 19 August 2007 (UTC)
