Speedy deletion nomination of File:Ashnoor Kaur 27.jpg edit

A tag has been placed on File:Ashnoor Kaur 27.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F9 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the file appears to be a blatant copyright infringement of http://in.pinterest.com/pin/670754938251000769. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use it — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Apologies for adding a image on Wikipedia without clarifying. I found this image on google and from there I added the source. Can I add an image from some news site or images appearing on google? Please inform me about the same since I am a new user.

In general, images you find on the internet are not allowable. The image use policy is a bit technically worded; let me know if you need help deciphering any of its details. DMacks (talk) 05:07, 22 November 2021 (UTC)Reply

I am still not able to understand which images can be posted and which not. Please clear this because as far as I know, facebook allows images to be used freely. Natureisablessing Natureisablessing (talk) 17:56, 9 December 2021 (UTC)Reply

@Natureisablessing, this isn't Facebook. Images used on Wikipedia must have a free license or in very limited cases, fair use (which does NOT apply to a living person). Images that you find online, including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pintrest and basically every site out there do NOT have compatible licenses. Please don't upload them. The message above has some good links you can read for more information. Ravensfire (talk) 18:59, 9 December 2021 (UTC)Reply

Hello. This is a message to let you know that one or more of your recent contributions, such as the edit you made to Ziddi Dil Maane Na, did not appear to be constructive and have been reverted. Please take some time to familiarise yourself with our policies and guidelines. If you only meant to make test edits, please use your sandbox for that. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you may leave a message on my talk page. The plot on Ziddi Dil Maane Na is way, way, WAY too long. Please read WP:TVPLOT and note the plot length there. It needs to get reduced soon.   Wikipedia articles are a summary of major points, not full details. Since you add excessively detailed plot information, please read MOS:TVPLOT, MOS:PLOT, WP:PLOT and WP:PLOTSUM. In short, an article about a work of fiction includes a concise summary of the plot as longer can make it a derivative work and in violation of copyright law. I have not copied the image from the above site. The link from where I got the image is : https://origin-staticv2.sonyliv.com/landscape_thumb/KUDCA_Landscape_Thumb.jpg. Please stop the deletion. Natureisablessing (talk) 02:59, 17 December 2021 (UTC)Reply

It doesn't matter where you got the image from, you claimed it was under a free license. It is not. That is a copyright violation. You've already been given information about copyrights, but seems to have just said yes and then just ignored it. Copyright violations are taken very seriously. Your next copyright violation is likely to result in you being blocked from editing. -- Whpq (talk) 03:46, 17 December 2021 (UTC)Reply

But I remember that someone else also posted a image of another show which was too taken from SonyLiv only and that image is still there. That's why I am confused a lot. I apologize for this but am not clear about it. Please give some examples of the site from which the image can be taken. Also if I add the image under fair use would it then be accepted? Natureisablessing (talk) 04:15, 17 December 2021 (UTC)Reply

Posters like that can be used as non-free content. Such content must meet all of the non-free content criteria. In the case of this image, it was being used in a draft which does not meet criterion 9. As such the image is not acceptable. You uploaded File:ZiddiDilMaaneNaPoster.jpg with no information, but that was fixed by another editor. For any non-free posters, you can use that as an example. -- Whpq (talk) 04:27, 17 December 2021 (UTC)Reply

So does that means that if the image's license is changed to non-free fair use, it can be used? Am a new editor that's why I have questions regarding this. Natureisablessing (talk) 04:31, 17 December 2021 (UTC)Reply

No, because nonfree content is not allowed in drafts. You may 9mly use it if the draft becomes an article. Whpq (talk) 05:33, 17 December 2021 (UTC)Reply

Yes I meant this only. Thank You. Also there is an article Anchal Sahu which is being considered for deletion. I want to add an image there which is non-free fair use(link- https://scontent.fdel27-2.fna.fbcdn.net/v/t1.6435-9/137219158_3595800957179932_5398629154482131243_n.jpg?_nc_cat=110&ccb=1-5&_nc_sid=973b4a&_nc_ohc=3SlHaGzWF6YAX_obKH4&_nc_ht=scontent.fdel27-2.fna&oh=00_AT9jyQZ-RGmeMm5L4W2pkMcfx0kDAY4aixBMXdo4cMA9ng&oe=61E23A50). So can I add it there? and I want to add an image of Ashnoor Kaur in the article Ashnoor Kaur whose link is below. Can you please tell which copyright will it be?- https://pbs.twimg.com/media/FAORiZEVQAIM8Vc.jpg Natureisablessing (talk) 06:13, 17 December 2021 (UTC)Reply

WP:IMAGEHELP is another page you can go to ask questions related to copyright. Before asking, make sure you've taken some time to look at the site and page the image is from, and see what they have to say about licensing. While having a copyright notice at the bottom isn't required (it's automatic), when you see that, you KNOW the images are copyrighted. You need to find a declaration on the page that the image(s) are licensed under a compatible license, usually a Creative Commons, attribution required. If it's not there, the image can't be used. Bollywood Hungama is a unique case, for image that are from one of their parties or events (and ONLY if it's from one of their parties or events, taken by their photographers), you can use the images. Specific information is needed on those, but worry about that when it's needed. Ravensfire (talk) 15:07, 17 December 2021 (UTC)Reply

Wikipedia and copyright edit

Hello Natureisablessing! While we appreciate your contributions to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from sources to avoid copyright and plagiarism issues.

  • You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and cite the source using an inline citation. You can read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Help:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
  • Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify the information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
  • We have strict guidelines on the usage of copyrighted images. Fair use images must meet all ten of the non-free content criteria in order to be used in articles, or they will be deleted. To be used on Wikipedia, all other images must be made available under a free and open copyright license that allows commercial and derivative reuse.
  • If you own the copyright to the source you want to copy or are a legally designated agent, you may be able to license that text so that we can publish it here. Understand, though, that unlike many other sites, where a person can license their content for use there and retain non-free ownership, that is not possible at Wikipedia. Rather, the release of content must be irrevocable, to the world, into either the public domain (PD) or under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. Such a release must be done in a verifiable manner, so that the authority of the person purporting to release the copyright is evidenced. See Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
  • Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied or translated without attribution. If you want to copy or translate from another Wikipedia project or article, you must follow the copyright attribution steps described at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. See also Help:Translation#License requirements.

It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. If you have any questions about this, you are welcome to leave me a message on my talk page. You have already been told about copying images, and given links to get help for copyright and images. Thank you. (talk) 23:22, 16 December 2021 (UTC)Reply

@Whpq, In the article where I cited a source, after receiving a message from you on the talk page, I shortened it, it was double quoted and cited from before itself and was in accord of what you mentioned. I visited the page today and on seeing the history, I realized someone else has reverted the correct format which I edited. Please once view the page history of the article and you'll know yourself. And as for other things, I am reading Wikipedia articles and learning all the rules. Regards - Natureisablessing (talk) 16:21, 19 December 2021 (UTC)Reply

Manual of Style for television articles edit

Please read over Wikipedia:Manual_of_Style/Television. You've continued to make edits that would be appropriate on a Wikia fan page than on a Wikipedia page. Remember this is an encyclopedia, articles present short summaries of the subject. Read through the Manual of Style page, it should help you better understand what articles should look like. Remember, short summary of the subject. Ravensfire (talk) 16:13, 19 December 2021 (UTC)Reply

As far as I know, as far of the latest I haven't made any summary edits. The last edit I made to a page was of critical reception. If anything else which I missed out, please convey to me.Natureisablessing (talk) 16:25, 19 December 2021 (UTC)Reply

Incorrect warning from February 2022 edit

Hello, I'm Toddst1. I noticed that you made an edit concerning content related to a living (or recently deceased) person on Shaleen Malhotra, but you didn't support your changes with a citation to a reliable source. It's been removed and archived in the page history for now. Wikipedia has a very strict policy concerning how we write about living people, so please help us keep such articles accurate and clear. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. WP:BLP and WP:DOB are to be taken seriously. Toddst1 (talk) 00:21, 2 February 2022 (UTC)Reply

This edit restored a date of birth with a phony source, previously tagged as {{fv}}. Looking at this again, you were jumping in the middle of a flaming edit war and had no idea that the source didn't support the date of birth. Speedy deletion nomination of File:MaddamSirNewMontage.jpeg edit

A tag has been placed on File:MaddamSirNewMontage.jpeg, requesting that it be deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under two or more of the criteria for speedy deletion, by which pages can be deleted at any time, without discussion. If the page meets any of these strictly-defined criteria, then it may soon be deleted by an administrator. The reasons it has been tagged are:

  • It is an image licensed as "for non-commercial use only," "non-derivative use" or "used with permission," it has not been shown to comply with the limited standards for the use of non-free content [2], and it was either uploaded on or after 2005-05-19 or is not used in any articles. (See section F3 of the criteria for speedy deletion.) If you agree with the deletion, there is no need to do anything. If, however, you believe that this image may be retained on Wikipedia under one of the permitted conditions then you should do two things. First, please state clearly the source of the image. If it has been copied from elsewhere on the web you should provide links to the image itself, the page which uses it, and the page which contains the license conditions. Second, please add the relevant copyright tag.
  • The image appears to be a blatant copyright infringement. (See section F9 of the criteria for speedy deletion.) For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted images or text borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.
