Hello, Mz7,

New editor Sulehaido requested the undeletion of protected article Haido buhari which was basically a one line article written by Haido buhari or his socks. Could you do a quick check? Thanks. Liz Read! Talk! 21:49, 2 June 2021 (UTC)

User:Jr Tahun

Hi, I am not exactly sure what to do. Back in May you blocked this user for repeated additions of unsourced content. This activity is still continuing today. What do I do in this scenario? Here are some examples [7] [8], this one he "fake cited" [9] and so forth. I have left warnings on their talk page with no replies. Sportsfan 1234 (talk) 02:13, 8 June 2021 (UTC)

@Sportsfan 1234: I've warned the user one last time. If they continue to add unsourced content, let me know, and I may block their account again. Mz7 (talk) 17:52, 9 June 2021 (UTC)

  • Wikimedia previously used the IRC network Freenode. However, due to changes over who controlled the network with reports of a forceful takeover by several ex-staff members, the Wikimedia IRC Group Contacts decided to move to the new Libera Chat network. It has been reported that Wikimedia related channels on Freenode have been forcibly taken over if they pointed members to Libera. There is a migration guide and Wikimedia discussions about this.

Sorry, thank you

Hi Mz7, sorry about the malformed SPI report. Thanks for moving it to the right place, and it's helpful to know not to request CU for IP reports – it makes sense, and I've seen the note in the SPI intro, but I never really got it until now. Firefangledfeathers (talk) 05:26, 10 June 2021 (UTC)

IP socking

Hi Mz7, you blocked Special:Contributions/70.187.171.236 for one month back in March as a sock per Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Extrapolaris. The IP is active once again on several of the same articles as before the block. Do I need to file an SPI again, or can you block based on the previous report? A new report would be largely identical to the previous one. Thanks. BilCat (talk) 18:19, 10 June 2021 (UTC)

BilCat, thanks for letting me know. I've blocked the IP again for another three months. Best, Mz7 (talk) 21:26, 10 June 2021 (UTC)

Roshan Sitara

It looks like you deleted and salted Roshan_Sitara back in April due to repeated recreation. I do not know the content of the recreated article, but it may match Roshan sitara that was created a week ago. BOVINEBOY2008 15:32, 18 June 2021 (UTC)

@Bovineboy2008: Thank you for bringing this to my attention. The user that recreated this new article is indeed a sockpuppet of the previous accounts that created the previously salted title. (The relevant SPI case is Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Bttowadch.) I've blocked the relevant accounts and deleted this new iteration. Thanks again, Mz7 (talk) 06:04, 19 June 2021 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free image File:The Harry Potter Alliance logo.png

Thanks for uploading File:The Harry Potter Alliance logo.png. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in section F5 of the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. --B-bot (talk) 18:11, 20 June 2021 (UTC)

Nonsense pages

This is regarding the socks you just blocked. Using [17], I was able to locate [18], which is another creation of this same person. Are we able to use the title blacklist or something to contain this person's various creations? It's always the exact same stuff as shown in the pastebin file. Home Lander (talk) 22:01, 22 June 2021 (UTC)

Also found [19] and [20]. Home Lander (talk) 22:12, 22 June 2021 (UTC)
@Home Lander: Sorry for the delay in responding. I have placed an IP block on 2001:861:3206:2c0::/64 (block range · block log (global) · WHOIS (partial)) that I think may help in this case (no comment from a CU perspective, of course, but behaviorally that IP range is responsible for a few of the problematic drafts that you linked). I'm not sure the title blacklist would help in this case, but I think the edit filter might; if the problem continues, you could request one at Wikipedia:Edit filter/Requested. Best of luck, Mz7 (talk) 20:19, 25 June 2021 (UTC)
Mz7, requested. Appreciate your help, let me know here or there if you have any other thoughts. Home Lander (talk) 19:44, 1 July 2021 (UTC)

Remove sources

Hi, why did you remove sources from capture of Fez (1554) ? Pikachu5D (talk) 16:41, 27 June 2021 (UTC)

Check talk page... Pikachu5D (talk) 16:42, 27 June 2021 (UTC)

And why did you block me ? I bring sources for it. Pikachu5D (talk) 16:43, 27 June 2021 (UTC)

@Pikachu5D: I personally have no view about how the article should be written. On Wikipedia, we have a rule which prohibits editors from repeatedly reversing each other's edits. Instead of repeatedly undoing the edits other editors, you should engage in discussion on the article's talk page and come to an agreement before editing the article again. You were blocked because you persistently reverted other editors without first coming to an agreement with other editors on the article's talk page. Mz7 (talk) 16:54, 27 June 2021 (UTC)

Administrators' newsletter – July 2021

News and updates for administrators from the past month (June 2021).

  Guideline and policy news

  • Consensus has been reached to delete all books in the book namespace. There was rough consensus that the deleted books should still be available on request at WP:REFUND even after the namespace is removed.
  • An RfC is open to discuss the next steps following a trial which automatically applied pending changes to TFAs.

  Technical news

  • IP addresses of unregistered users are to be hidden from everyone. There is a rough draft of how IP addresses may be shown to users who need to see them. This currently details allowing administrators, checkusers, stewards and those with a new usergroup to view the full IP address of unregistered users. Editors with at least 500 edits and an account over a year old will be able to see all but the end of the IP address in the proposal. The ability to see the IP addresses hidden behind the mask would be dependent on agreeing to not share the parts of the IP address they can see with those who do not have access to the same information. Accessing part of or the full IP address of a masked editor would also be logged. Comments on the draft are being welcomed at the talk page.

Saff V.

Hello, Mz7,

Could you review the latest addition to Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Srahmadi? You blocked and then unblocked editor Saff V. and now they are once again blocked as a sockpuppet and all their page creations tagged for deletion based on "a tip". Since you reviewed them in April, I was hoping you could confirm this. Thank you. Liz Read! Talk! 21:39, 31 July 2021 (UTC)

Hi Liz. Back in April, I was specifically looking for whether Saff V was connected to the account Ghazaalch (talk+ · tag · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log · CA · CheckUser(log· investigate · cuwiki)—eventually, I determined that there is no connection between Saff V and Ghazaalch. It appears that as of today there are new developments which indicate that Saff V. is a sockpuppet of someone else (i.e. not Ghazaalch). Since it doesn't look like Ghazaalch is involved in the new developments, it looks like nothing here contradicts the result of my April investigation. I haven't actually looked at the underlying data involved in the new developments, but I was wondering whether this explanation resolves your concerns? If you would like, I could email CaptainEek to ask for clarification on their block. Mz7 (talk) 02:17, 1 August 2021 (UTC)

Warning

Hi @Mz7:, If new IP or Registered users add vandalic content in any BLP on their first edit then which level of Warning is used. Please answer me.Damak15 (talk) 05:51, 6 August 2021 (UTC)

Hi, Damak15. Usually you can start with level 1 using {{subst:uw-vandalism1}}, but if the vandalism is particularly egregious, you can skip levels and go directly to 2 or 3 or even directly to level 4. If you go directly to level 4, you can use the template {{subst:uw-vandalism4im}} ("4im" meaning "level 4-immediate"). Use your best judgment. For more information, see the guidance at Wikipedia:Vandalism#For beginners. Mz7 (talk) 05:55, 6 August 2021 (UTC)

Ok, but if New IP or Registered user didn't make any disruptive, vandalism and test edit on their first edit and makes vandalic edits on their 5 or 4 or 2 edits or after serveral months then which level we use.Damak15 (talk) 06:00, 6 August 2021 (UTC)

@Damak15: There aren't really any rigid rules here. Simply use the level you think is best. Always read the template warning before you send it to make sure that the message it contains is what you mean to send. Mz7 (talk) 06:45, 6 August 2021 (UTC)

Sock tag removals

Did I mess something up here and here?-- Jezebel's Ponyobons mots 19:16, 16 August 2021 (UTC)

@Ponyo: I apologize in advance because the situation here is a little difficult to explain. Basically, you didn't mess anything up, but there is some new information that questions whether these accounts are CU-confirmed to the account Excel23 specifically.
At the time you placed those tags, you had correctly confirmed that those two accounts (SugarHiller and TexasToasters) were the same user as JuiceGrind (among other accounts). The problem was, at the time, JuiceGrind had incorrectly been tagged as a CU-confirmed sockpuppet of the user Excel23—because of this, you tagged SugarHiller and TexasToasters as CU-confirmed socks of Excel23. Currently, it's no longer clear whether JuiceGrind et al. are actually related to Excel23. This is because of a technical issue with the CU tool that falsely made it seem like Excel23 was confirmed to a bunch of accounts—you can see some discussion at the relevant SPI case (which is very long and confusing; sorry about that).
In other words, the current situation is that the following accounts are   Confirmed to each other but are   Unrelated to Excel23:
If we want to re-tag these accounts, we could tag them under JuiceGrind, which is the oldest account of these five. Again, I apologize for the confusion. Mz7 (talk) 04:22, 17 August 2021 (UTC)
Ah, I completely understand. In fact, I must have anticipated there could an issue with confirming the accounts to Excel23, which is why I specifically noted the connection between SugarHiller and TexasToasters to specific accounts tagged as Excel socks in my edit summaries instead of just leaving the Excel123 sock tags with the generic edit summary "tag". I left myself a crumb trail. I'll retag the accounts as JuiceGrind socks as it may be useful down the road.-- Jezebel's Ponyobons mots 15:58, 17 August 2021 (UTC)
