Welcome to Wikipedia!

Dear Mus Musculus: Welcome to Wikipedia, a free and open-content encyclopedia. I hope you enjoy contributing. To help get you settled in, I thought you might find the following pages useful:

Don't worry too much about being perfect. Very few of us are! Just in case you are not perfect, click here to see how you can avoid making common mistakes.

If you are stuck, and looking for help, please come to the New contributors' help page, where experienced Wikipedians can answer any queries you have! Or, you can just type {{helpme}} on your user page, and someone will show up shortly to answer your questions.

Wikipedians try to follow a strict policy of never biting new users. If you are unsure of how to do something, you are welcome to ask a more experienced user such as an administrator. One last bit of advice: please sign any discussion comment with four tildes (~~~~). The software will automatically convert this into your signature which can be altered in the "Preferences" tab at the top of the screen. I hope I have not overwhelmed you with information. If you need any help just let me know. Once again welcome to Wikipedia, and don't forget to tell us about yourself and be BOLD! Xiong Chiamiov :: contact :: 03:29, 7 September 2006 (UTC)

Dark Tower

I'd be more than happy to help improve the DT articles if I am able to (I haven't read the series in a while, so some information is a bit hazy). One thing I would like to do is make articles for the main ka-tet...I mean, Patrick Danville has his own article but Jake and Eddie don't?--CyberGhostface 23:15, 13 December 2006 (UTC)

On Netflix

OK I agree to the finer technical details. But my point was: since Wikipedia serves almost as a free source of information for the uninitiated like me, any information that is there, is likely to be uncritically accepted. Born into Brothels in my opinion is a bad film, whose sole claim to credit lies in the theme of poverty/charity tourism. It is solely meant for an audience who have never been to Calcutta, after seeing it probably they never will. Calcutta is not the only city to have its ills. The slums of Mumbai, Manila, Ahmedabad and elsewhere in the Third World have much worse conditions than those prevailing in Calcutta. Just because Calcutta is liberal enough to allow filmmakers to shoot films like City of Joy or Born into Brothels, does not mean that that city is a repository to everything bad or abhorrent that there can be in the Third World. Contrarily, it is a much better managed and much more humane city. The same claim to liberal outlook can not be necessarily extended to other cities in India (except perhaps Mumbai; even then Mira Nair had to face a lot of trouble while shooting Salaam Bombay), which are not kind enough to many western filmmakers. And yet, its relegation to being the metaphor for everything that there can be negative in this world, has less to do with the choice of its own people than to its unique legacy of history. If you have to give another example on alternative filmmaking, why not try Rent? I was under the impression that Fahrenheit 9/11 would be a good example of alternative filmmaking, that would resonate with the largely US based Wikipedians. And yes, I would a greatly appreciate a better example (than Born into Brothels) in the Netflix article. Thanks LordGulliverofGalben

Your spoiler template fixes for the Conan stories

As your spoiler template fixes to the Conan stories ruin the page formatting for each article, please undo them. Additionally, you sometimes moved the spoiler template to the wrong section of the article. Again, as this does not improve the articles, please undo the changes. --Flask 02:28, 16 December 2006 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:Pickard.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Pickard.jpg. The image description page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Reasons for my reversal reactions

I'v just realized, that I'm not a member of WikiProject Ice Hockey. I've contacted Members of that WikiProject page Ccwaters & RGTraynor to review my actions (concerning the 'restrictive' guideline for the HHoF section & the 'Honored Members' section). If you believe my actions were valid, then you may revert my recent reverts or wait to see what the WikiProject members think. Either way, until this confusion (which I may have started) ends, I'm going to stand back and wait until the dust settles. PS - see my message to this WikiProject Ice Hockey member Ccwaters. Thanks for your support. GoodDay 22:28, 5 February 2007 (UTC)

FAC

My replies were calm in their origins, the sarcasm wasn't meant to be taken seriously. I was expecting constructive criticism, and I knew if it didn't go well it would work as a peer review.... it just went too slow for me, and no one seemed to be interested in the article, thus promoting the article would be impossible and I delisted so Raul wouldn't have to. My RfA

Word of thanks for Mus Musculus
Good morning (GMT time); I'd like to thank you for supporting, opposing, taking a neutral stance to, closing, suggesting I close or otherwise contributing to my recent RfA; unfortunately, I felt that although there were more support than oppose votes, the weight of the latter was too great for me to accept the promotion with so many not trusting me with the janitor's trolley -

I therefore decided to end my nomination prematurely. The feedback I received was invaluable, and I am striving to start afresh with all of the advice my fellow Wikipedians offered. In order to meet the aim of adapting to your advice, I've drew up a list of aims (located here) which I intend to follow from this point onwards. at my talk page where it will be graciously and humbly accepted. Once again, thank you and I do hope to bump into you around the encyclopedia!

Regards,
Anthonycfc [TC]

Don't hesitate to add to these - just drop me a message so I know!

==Wikipedia: WikiProject Ice Hockey/Team pages format== Hello, Mus Musculus. As you may know, a consensus was reached by editors to remove the 'restrictive guideline' for the HHOF sections. As you're a WikiProject members, would you remove that guideline? GoodDay 23:52, 10 February 2007 (UTC)

HHOF Members / Other Hockey Articles

Hello Mus Musculus,

I'm not sure how new you are to wikipedia or the Ice hockey Project. I't great that you've taken an active interest in Wiki Project Ice Hockey, However I checked out your article on Al Leader and I noticed that you removed his name from the Requested Articles section but did not add his name to the New Articles section. In future when you create an Ice hockey related article be sure to add the linked name to the new articles section under the date of creation.

I'm also curious as to what your hockey specialty is so if I have questions about articles I'm creating and need advice I might be able to bounce it off of you. Just so you know I no absolutly nothing about Barnsley, Manitoba I leave those sorts of things to people who do. And where or how did you come up with the name of Mus Musculus ?.

Just so you know most people don't use the New Articles page in the wikiproject. In fact there is discussion to remove that since there is an automatically generated page in the project that already pretty much does that same thing. --Djsasso 20:58, 21 March 2007 (UTC)

Fighting in Ice Hockey

I'm impressed, the article is really good. The references and the prose are definitely there. If I had to make a few suggestions, I would say that the lead may be a little too long, and that all of the references need to consistently come after punctuation (like a period, or semicolon) but I only saw that not done in a few places. Generally most articles go through the GA process first but if you're feeling bold then I'd say give it a shot at WP:FAC. It's not like you have anything to lose. Re: Fighting in ice hockey

Right, fair enough, I was wondering why those four were selected, but I agree in one sense, however your source is a book, which since people cannot really read the book and cannot see the source material they still won't be discouraged from inserting their favourite hockey fighters as you say. I'm not too worried about that because its not really of question inserting my favourite fighters, those historical ones are probably the five most important fighters to the evolution of fighting in the game. And with favourite fighters, I would say the kinds of people that would insert their favourite fighters would screw around with the modern fighters section, no matter how its sourced in a book. I'm pretty confident that sentence will not really make too much of a difference anyways, however if another source can be found that can better attribute the growth of fighting to the right people (unlike someone like Wayne Cashman or Clark Gillies, who never had more than 100 PIM in a season in his career) then that's awesome. Jaromir Jagr

I've moved the page back, to it's Anglonized title (as the consensus at talk: Jaromir Jagr calls for). Actually, alot of Euro-NHL player pages have been 'moved' to diacritical titles (without a consensus, notably Marian Gaborik). GoodDay 22:37, 26 April 2007 (UTC)

I hope you were not suggesting my move lacked courtesy. You simply could have reverted it yourself, and informed me: "I have moved Jaromir Jagr's article back, since the last consensus vote decided to leave out diacrtics." If you look at the edits following the Jagr move, you will see that I edited the list of National Hockey League statistical leaders, specifically by changing the wikilinks to point directly at the players' names, not the dull anglicized versions of their names. On that list we have Jean Béliveau, Peter Šťastný, Anton Šťastný, Marián Šťastný, Teemu Selänne, Nicklas Lidström, Dominik Hašek, Olaf Kölzig, Niklas Bäckström, Roman Čechmánek, and Manny Legacé, all of whom use diacrtics in their names, and all of whom have Wikipedia articles that conform to their actual names. I found it strange that Jagr's article did not follow this (apparent) convention, since Jaromír Jágr is his actual name, not Jaromir Jagr. − Twas Now ( talkcontribse-mail ) 16:34, 27 April 2007 (UTC)
