templatedata editor bug edit

hi.

see This diff: i created it with templatedata editor. it's not right: the problem is that there are multiple "noinclude", and the templatedata templatedata editor + "import parameters" tool screws it up. no big deal really - look at my later edit, but it's very much possible that someone will not notice (i nearly missed the problem). peace - קיפודנחש (aka kipod) (talk) 04:09, 25 November 2014 (UTC)Reply

Interesting and weird. The editor is supposed to add <noinclude> tags *only* arround the <templatedata> tags -- so this is a bug. I'm going to take a look and try to reproduce and fix. Thanks! Mooeypoo (talk) 04:40, 25 November 2014 (UTC)Reply
קיפודנחש (aka kipod) just to update -- I've submitted a fix for this. You were absolutely right, the code wrapped the entire output with noinclude rather than the templatedata tags alone. This is fixed in this gerrit commit (which I hope will be merged soon) Thanks for catching this! https://gerrit.wikimedia.org/r/#/c/175661/
super. thanks a bunch. another update - after the latest VE additions, especially the table-editing aid, i think it's time to re-enable VE for new editors, i.e., make VE a default. i think enwiki should also drop the "beta" moniker, but i don;t think it's worth pushing for this now. i opened a new discussion in Wikipedia:VPT (and in he:Wikipedia:מזנון) about it. peace - קיפודנחש (aka kipod) (talk) 06:11, 25 November 2014 (UTC)Reply

what am i missing? edit

so i tried VE on one of the articles transcluding Template:Infobox college coach. when editing the template, it told me no templatedata is present, so i added templatedata to the template itself. however, the documentation page (transcluded in the template) already contained templatedata, so another editor reverted my edit. the question is, why VE didn't/doesn't use templatedata from the doc page? isn't this the way it sould work? peace - קיפודנחש (aka kipod) (talk) 17:37, 25 November 2014 (UTC)Reply

Good question. It should recognize templatedata in a /doc page. I'm going to check into that. Thanks! Mooeypoo (talk) 18:01, 25 November 2014 (UTC)Reply
קיפודנחש (aka kipod) I can't reproduce. I just tried adding the template and it is read correctly. The only notice I'm receiving is that the template is lacking a description, which is a field inside templatedata. Is this still happening?
try to edit any article that contains the template, e.g., Bear Bryant: the template on the page does not include the parameter "CBASEHOF_year". when i click on it and enter the template editor, i do not see this field. it seems that only fields already in the template appear when editing an existing template. i do not think this is the correct behavior - the purpose of "templatedata" is to allow the editor to display all the fields, not just the ones already included on the page, no? peace - קיפודנחש (aka kipod) (talk) 22:58, 25 November 2014 (UTC)Reply

Out of date edit

Hello, Moriel, I was looking at geekly things and thought of you tonight. I notice that this page is rather out of date. You might also want to look through Category:Computer language user templates when you're thinking about an update. :-) WhatamIdoing (talk) 01:13, 16 September 2018 (UTC)Reply

Congrats (?) edit
