User talk:McPhail/Archive 1
Welcome!
editI hope you like this place — I sure do — and want to stay. Before getting too in-depth, you may want to read about the five pillars of Wikipedia. If you need help on how to title new articles check out the naming conventions, and for help on formatting the pages visit the manual of style. If you need help look at Wikipedia:Help and the FAQ , plus if you can't find your answer there, check the Village Pump (for Wikipedia related questions) or the Reference Desk (for general questions)! There's still more help at the Tutorial and Policy Library. Plus, don't forget to visit the Community Portal. And if you have any more questions after that, feel free to post them on my user talk page.
Additional tips
editHere's some extra tips to help you get around in the 'pedia!
- If you want to play around with your new Wiki skills the Sandbox is for you.
- You can sign your name using three tildes, like ~~~. If you use four, you can add a datestamp too.
- You may want to add yourself to the new user log.
- If you ever think a page or image should be deleted, please list it at the votes for deletion page. There is also a votes for undeletion page if you want to retrieve something that you think should not have been deleted.
- If you're still entirely confused, or would like to get a better grasp of your wikipedia skills, and you have an IRC client (or don't mind getting one), check out the Bootcamp. It's not what it sounds like, but it is fun and can help you with your editing skills.
- If you're bored and want to find something to do, try the Random page button in the sidebar, or check out the Open Task message in the Community Portal.
Happy Wiki-ing.

This is not menat as vandalism, I have no other way to contact McPhail:
To McPhail:
I take a personal shot at the fact that I changed some of the Randy Orton information and you disregarded it as BS. I have been good friends with Randy for many years and was VERY instrumental in the training of my young protege when he first entered pro-wrestling. If this information needs to be proved then NO PROBLEM. Don't just assume that it is BS. I can prove anything stated in this message to you (however you want proof). So when I change the information of who trained him and see people that weren't even there (I got video)on the page, then I have a serious problem with that, and so does Randy (after I mentioned it to him). I do apologize for bringing this to light on your web page, but I didn't know how else to get a hold of you. If you would like any proof or further information contact me directly at syndicatepr@charter.net. Thank you and sorry once again for the message in sucha public format.

editHey thanks for the hel on the Blood Sport ECW: The Most Violent Matches page. I know it was a little sloppy and neede what you added to it. I can't believe that I got the match between Dreamer and lee wrong though. Once again thanks.--Billyspongemonkey 02:00, 15 February 2006 (UTC)

editHey thanks mate, i needed some help with Too Cool. :) Dan Ellis
Rick Rude
editHey McPhail! Thanks for fixing the pics I put on the Rick Rude entry...it looks awesome now. Rude was one of my favorites so I really wanted to make that entry look good. Thanks for the help! Also, thanks for the Lenny Lane edit on the List of WCW stars I made last night. I appreciate all the help I can get!

Good work.
editYou're doing an amazing job fixing up hundreds of the small mistakes and weird wording choices on all the wrestling pages. Hell, you're more productive than some bots I've seen. - Lifefeed 19:55, Jun 13, 2005 (UTC)
WCW
editThanks for your tireless efforts to thwart vandalism to the WCW page. Have you had any luck in trying to get it protected? --Chrysaor 21:05, Jun 16, 2005 (UTC)
- It's still listed, but not protected yet, I'm afraid. McPhail 09:31, 17 Jun 2005 (UTC)
Nice job on the André article. I added the picture and biography box, but I didn't know there was one specific to wrestlers. Gorrister 19:08, 21 Jun 2005 (UTC)
Ok, so I guess you called the Cornette thing. I figured it would all blow over, but boy was I wrong. My bad. --Chrysaor July 8, 2005 15:36 (UTC)
The Wrestling Armstrong's
editHi, I came across the Wikipedia pages for the Armstrong's and noticed that their names were incorrect, so I corrected them. As I said before I went to school with one of them and that's how I know them. You know, it is kind of hard to cite a source when the source is me. I guess I could ask them for a copy of birth certificates or something :) Anyway, if you wish to have incorrect info on these webpages then leave it. I seriously doubt that YOU could find a credible source for the incorrect names you have since they are wrong. So leave it, I don't give a rat's @ss, I was just trying to correct something that IS wrong.
- I don't think anecdotal evidence is convincing proof. McPhail 16:19, 11 July 2005 (UTC)
Here is a post that mentions the ongoing debate over his name: http://superstarbillygraham.net/forum/index.php?threadid=7740&page=0#pager Not sure what you meant by your comment above. I don't think you used 'anecdotal' exactly correct.
Sgt. Slaughter
editI didn't think a move could be requested because there was alread a Rober Remus page that redirected to Sgt. Slaughter, when it should be the other way around. The history is stll there, but under the redirect page, so nothing would have been lost by the "move". Are you sure that a move request is necessary for that? Gorrister 17:12, 11 July 2005 (UTC)
- Wikipedia policy is "please do not just copy and paste the contents (doing that destroys the page's edit history)." If you post a requested move on the Sgt. Slaughter page then an admin will move it to Robert Remus along with the edit history. McPhail 17:17, 11 July 2005 (UTC)
Rude comments in edit history
editYou left a rather rude comment in the edit history of Scorpio Sky, which reads: Remove inaccurate information. SWD316 and Hall Monitor, actually read the article in future. I reviewed my edits, one was the categorization of the article under Category:Professional wrestlers and the second being the addition of the {{cleanup}} tag because there were many incomplete sentences. I believe you owe someone an apology. Hall Monitor 16:40, 27 July 2005 (UTC)
- The article contained a quantity of untrue information, which you failed to either remove or mark as such. You shouldn't be editing articles without at least a cursory review of the material. McPhail 16:46, 27 July 2005 (UTC)
- A {{cleanup}} tag was ambiguous enough to indicate there is a problem with the article. Please make a concerted effort to observe civility in the future. Thank you. Hall Monitor 17:05, 27 July 2005 (UTC)
Kevin Northcutt
editNice article, just a friendly reminder, when you create a new wrestler put him under the List of professional wrestlers when your done. I already added Northcutt. -- SWD316 17:22, 27 July 2005 (UTC)
- Certainly. McPhail 12:45, 28 July 2005 (UTC)
Terri Runnels
editHello McPhail! I changed Terri's article to Boatwright because I was told to put these articles under their real names. I was changing the ones I did from the 1980's and saw hers so I changed it too. If I am not supposed to do this, we all should probably come up with a firm set of rules for what name to use for each wrestler. Sorry if I was not supposed to change hers or any of the others I have been changing! phatcat68 18:25, 7 August 2005 (UTC)
Redirect
editHey, you told me to redirect wrestlers, how do i do that?
- On a new page, type #REDIRECT [[]] with the name of the main article between the brackets. McPhail 01:12, 11 August 2005 (UTC)
Sure his "race" is Puerto Rican. However he is not from that country. I connect that category to people of that nationality. ↪Lakes 21:35, 11 August 2005 (UTC)
- If that category covers race then we need categories for caucasian, african-american, etc. I don't think this is necessary.
- ↪Lakes 21:38, 11 August 2005 (UTC)
- Well, he identifies himself as "Puerto Rican", and the Puerto Rican article says that:
- "Puerto Rican can refer to anybody who was born in or whose ancestors are from Puerto Rico. It can also refer to something from Puerto Rico, such as "Puerto Rican Rum". It should be noted that even though Puerto Rico is a territory of the United States and its people have American citizenship, the majority of the people of Puerto Rico feel pride in being called Puerto Ricans of nationality."
- Plus, the category "Puerto Rican people" says that:
- "This category lists people from Puerto Rico (or of Puerto Rican background)."
- So it seems to be more of an ethnic than a geographical category. McPhail 14:17, 12 August 2005 (UTC)
- We're talking about the Category:Puerto Rican professional wrestlers, which should be compared to the other professional wrestler categories, not the Category:Puerto Rican people category. And all subcategories about professional wrestlers so far are about nationality, as far as I can see. If we change this then the I think others should be too. I just feel that this is not consistent.
- ↪Lakes 14:51, 12 August 2005 (UTC)
- Erazo can be categorised as both an American professional wrestler, as he was born in America, and a Puerto Rican professional wrestler, as he identifies himself as such. All Puerto Rican citizens are American citizens, so the category is not about nationality, it's about ethnicity. I have no objection to creating "Category:African American professional wrestlers" or "Category:Caucasian wrestlers", but I don't see it as a priority. McPhail 15:02, 12 August 2005 (UTC)
- Ah forgot about that. Nevermind then. I don't think we really need those african american and caucasian categories, I can't see their usefulness.
- ↪Lakes 19:39, 12 August 2005 (UTC)

The Wrestling Blog
editHey McPhail -- great stuff, all around. One complaint: I noticed yesterday that "www.wrestlingblog.com" is linked. I'm a regular contributor to "www.THEwrestlingblog.com" -- a blog put together by and for members of the IWC. I added it last night, and it was deleted today -- I think you mistakingly thought it was a duplicate. It is in fact a separate (and higher-quality in my personal opinion) blog from the other one. Please advise -- my email is matthew@insidepulse.com. - Matthew Michaels
- Sorry about that, I did think it was a duplicate. By all means, add it again. McPhail 14:43, 2 September 2005 (UTC)
I added it along with a bunch of other good external links/resources, and you deleted them... please advise. - Matthew
Chris Jericho's profile
editAre you the person that removed my elaborations at the start of his profile, and my Win/Loss records?
There are no "sources" that I can show you other than that I saw every one of his matches, starting from WCW.
RE: http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Chris_Jericho&oldid=22546480
His Nickname "Y2J", was never a knockoff of Y2K. He said so himself in numerous Magazine interviews as well as live interviews after he debuted. He even had a T-Shirt made that he worn on some Shows, but was not available for sale.
I have a log of every WCW match he has had, as well as his entire WWF/E Record, every date, opponent, result and partners. My Source is a vast amount of information found online, and dozens of Jericho videotapes, including the 5 tape series of his entire WCW Matches.
From my log of his matches :
--1996--
- -- 08/20 C WIN : JL via Pinfall (Lionsault) Dalton,Georgia
- NI 08/26 DRAW : Alex Wright (Alex w/ Top Rope Crossbody to outside, Y2J counters, and Alex is out. Y2J asks Ref to stop match)
- SN 08/31 C WIN : JL via Pinfall (Fisherman Suplex, and Lionsault)
Go ahead and look it up, it's all right there. Best source is ddtdigest.com
RE: http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Chris_Jericho&oldid=22546750
His Win/Loss Record. I have every one of his matches logged, so I obviously have counted them up, and there they were. What was wrong with it? I made the research and put it up, but you failed to even research it even a little bit, just deleted it.
From my Log of End of Year results :

Feel free to RESEARCH the things that are Edited in, and THEN edit it if it is false.
I don't like how you just deleted all my information without so much of a glance to see it's validity. There are mounds of places where you could have found his records.
- The onus is on you to provide a source when adding new material. McPhail 16:16, 6 September 2005 (UTC)
- ETA: Your contributions. You're a vandal, and I now have absolutely no reason to believe the research that you claim to have "made" but are mysteriously unable to provide citations for. The information will be deleted if it is reinserted without comprehensive references. McPhail 17:03, 6 September 2005 (UTC)

Gail Kim
editHey, thanks for cleaning up the Gail Kim article. I would have liked it if you kept the fact that she was on RAW a couple of days before your release, but I guess you can't have it all. On a related note, I'm soon going to expand the article on Victoria, so if you could take a look at what I've contributed when I get the chance, that would be nice. Once again, thanks for your work on her, as well as expanding and protecting articles on pro wrestling. ErikNY 16:17, 8 September 2005 (UTC)
- Okay, I saw that you did add the info about Gail appearing on RAW right before she was released. I pretty much brought that up because in a previous version of the article, I did include the info. I thought that you originally removed it because of NPOV policy, when I wanted to point that out because that was a big reason why a lot of people were surprised over her release. On a related note, I did make a big expansion to Victoria's career section last night, so if you could check that over, that would be good. Once again, thanks. ErikNY 14:22, 10 September 2005 (UTC)

Changing of the pwstatbox
editPlease make sure you've fixed every page that uses the pwstatbox template before you change the template itself. For example I just noticed that you hadn't fixed Kevin Nash. You should have added |resides= to all articles that use the template before adding an item to the template itself, since additional parameters are not a problem, but missing are.

editSteel Cage Match
editI just wanted to know if the information entered under 'steel cage match' was taken from www.steelcagematch.com? The information seems to all come from the steelcagematch/history section, just para-phrased. I am the web master of the site. I don't mind that the site was used as a source, but if a credit could be used. Not that I care about my information being used. But I would love to be able to write in my site that Wikipedia is using the article that I wrote as a source. I created the site as a nitch site cause there was hardly anything on the web on cage matches. Since there was near to nothing on cage matches, it was a bit hard to write the article. So to find my research being used feel kind of cool. It would help the credibility of my site. Let me know.
Steel Cage Match removed material
editThe Material didn't have to be removed. The link was more than enough. Thank you for your speedy response. Like I had said, I am honored that my text was used. I can tell you that it was well researched. If you like it can be put back it, since a link has been added. I'll put it back in. Thanks again.
Revert of merge
editYou reverted the merge of Todd and Mike Shane. The two pages are almost identical. Do you expect the articles to develop independently, or is there another fair reason for keeping the articles separate? Please discuss this at Talk:Mike Shane Thanks Zeimusu | Talk page 12:26, 1 November 2005 (UTC)
Andre The Giant
editMcPhail, Get your facts straight before you go changing stats all over the place. Andre's trainer stated that he was legitimately measured at 7'1.5" in his early adulthood. Also, he was anywhere between 380 - 540 lbs during his wrestling career. It would be greatly appreciated if you would leave these stats in the article, instead of always thinking your stats are superior, you have no proof he was only 7'1".
Is everyone you don't agree with a vandal?
editYou edit everyone's addition to the encyclopedia to fit your taste and point of view. You seem to believe that everyone here is wrong and that your stats/information are superior. You really need to realize that this is a public encyclopedia not "McPhail's Encyclopedia".
Thank you! Hitmanwdb 21:49, 19 November 2005 (UTC)
Michael Altieri
editWhy did you revert my edits to the previous version when I made the heading smaller. According to the To-do list on the pro wrestling wikiproject page we are supposed to make them that size. SWD316 20:05, 19 November 2005 (UTC)
- Oh, ok. So the way I did the championships on that page was fine? Its so hard to find out what you all want. I have to go with what you, Lakes, Darren Jowalsen, Jtalledo, and everyone else says and thier little things to keep up with. So, is the way I did the championships ok? SWD316 20:17, 19 November 2005 (UTC)
Why do you change everybody's additions?
editIf you change it, that's ok? If someone else changes it, that's vandalism? I cleaned up the Bret Hart section adding a trivia section (as many have) taking out all the (parentheses) you added in the opening statements and added that to the trivia section. There were 4 of them in the first paragraph alone. It just looked cluttered and unprofessional, but you revert it right back into that jumble. Why do you feel that this is your site and its your way and your's alone?
If you have singled me out because I have corrected a lot of your spelling errors and misuse of words, I am sorry. I just feel that a neat presentation is more professional.
Your protection request
editRfP really isn't the place for this. I would suggest either the Vandalism in Progress page or Dispute resolution. Have someone else revert him if he does it again. Report him on the 3RR page if he reverts again. --Woohookitty(cat scratches) 22:32, 22 November 2005 (UTC)

edit- I wonder why someone hasent banned User:Rabid Wolverine 33, this is the worst thing about wikipedia vandals continue and get far too many chances Mike 05:50, 21 January 2006 (UTC)
I moved the article to John Layfield (wrestler) in preparation for writing a biography of John Layfield the 17th century theologian who helped translate the King James Version. While I was busy editing the 1000 linked pages to avoid redirects, you reversed the move and created an in-article redirect. I really feel that the theologian has a greater claim on being the most notable Layfield and bearer of the primary article name, but I didn't realize the unbelievable depth of professional wrestling coverage on Wikipedia when I started the task. I was about to spend the rest of the morning making things "right" before I was undermined. At this point I'm quite happy to turn my back on the whole mess and let you guys sort out the redirects. -- Dystopos 17:49, 21 January 2006 (UTC)
- Google is a poor test of notability when comparing obsessively documented public spectacles with long-dead historical figures. When I began, I did not imagine anyone would consider a modern wrestler to be of primary importance, and, since I was willing to do the drudge work, did not see that it needed to be discussed. In retrospect I regret wasting so much time and consider the issue completed. --Dystopos 18:20, 21 January 2006 (UTC)

I removed your speedy deletion tag from this article. Being a professional wrestler is a claim to notability, so I sent it to AfD instead with your reasoning (see Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Kousin Krazy). howcheng {chat} 17:50, 27 January 2006 (UTC)
Images you tagged for speedy deletion
editThe images you marked for speedy deletion as "untagged" (i.e., no source/licensing) are not eligible for speedy deletion yet. You need to tag the images with {{no source notified}} and notify the uploader using the {{image source}} to give them a chance to correctly indicate the source and licensing. If they don't do anything after seven days, then they can be tagged for deletion under WP:CSD I4. Thanks. howcheng {chat} 18:23, 27 January 2006 (UTC)
Preventing any new bits of trivia to be added to Kurt Angle's page
editI can understand why you don't want that bit about Chris Jericho being his best friend in there, because it's not really notable. However Kurt Angle's role model (the bit about Ric Flair), Kurt Angle's inspiration (the bit about Bret Hart) and what Kurt Angle wants to do after professional wrestling (the bit about acting) are very notable. So with all do respect, would you please stop treating some of these wrestling pages like they're your own and only you can edit them, if you want that start your own web page. But stop deleting new bits of trivia added to Kurt Angle's... or in fact any pages (unless it's vandalisim, of course).
My apologies...
editFor removing that information from the John Cena article, and thank you for correcting my error. RAW was not shown in the U.S. on Monday, Feb. 13 due to a dog show (of all things) scheduled for that night on the same Network (USA) that RAW is shown on... and I was under the impression it was not going to be filmed till Thursday, therefore thinking the information added was someone being stupid. You can pretty much tell this from my edit summary. Your edit summary however, made it look like I was purposely removing factual information, which I assure you was not the case at all. I love WWE and Wikipedia and have always tried to do my best to improve articles for Pro Wrestling and any other subject. In the future, I will check things like this before removing them, this was a very random case... but I thought I should make my intentions clear. Thanks, --Naha|(talk) 03:03, 15 February 2006 (UTC)

Whoops.
editDoh. Sorry about that. I skimmed the other article briefly, and didn't see the mirroring. My apologies. Michael Ralston 08:56, 23 February 2006 (UTC)
CM Punk
editYou removed my section describing Punk's recent problem with WWE. Why? This is not speculation as you have listed. It has been reported as an actual event. Alarm Clock
LOD Vandalism
editHey McPhail you may or may have not noticed the persistant vandalism towards presentation in articles concerning LOD members Hawk and Droz, Christy Hemme and any articles including the Doomsday Device... from IP addresses 67.150.72.191 and 67.150.74.210 (who i guess are one and the same; they also changed Team 3D -> Team 3-D) there has been blatent warning given during revert edit summarys... which they must see as they constantly go and revert back... do you think you could try to get through to them it would be much appriciated --- Paulley 23:36, 26 February 2006 (UTC)
- I though he might be getting the idea but i see under a new i IP 67.150.65.40 he is continuing to make bad edits that go against the MoS --- Paulley
Image:Markhenry2006.jpg
edithey there... I note that you tagged Image:Markhenry2006.jpg for speedy deletion, but you've not given a reason. Since there doesn't seem an obvious reason, it would have been helpful to have used the {{db}} template in order to specify one. Perhaps you tagged the image for deletion since no source is specified, but in this case the image must have been listed as having no source for at least 7 days. I have now removed the speedy deletion template, and replaced it with {{nsd}}. If you've got any queries feel free to leave me a message. └ UkPaolo/talk┐ 20:56, 3 March 2006 (UTC)
