Dude, you call yourself Masterdebater? Wow. Melchoir 21:39, 24 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

I agree. You have used the most trite expression in debate communities for your Wikipedia username. Wow indeed. Emersoni 22:32, 13 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

Well, it's a little late, but perhaps what I meant was this... hope you don't mind me putting it at the top of your talk page:

Welcome!

Hello, Masterdebater, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are a few good links for newcomers:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Where to ask a question, ask me on my talk page, or place {{helpme}} on your talk page and someone will show up shortly to answer your questions. Again, welcome!  Melchoir 06:53, 15 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

I left a note at the FAC page for this. Can you help me figure out what's not right with the ext.link formatting sections? Kaisershatner 04:09, 27 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

Lord of the Rings (film)

edit

Hi. I modified your redirect page to point directly to The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (film) instead of the redirect page The Lord of the Rings (film). Its usually best when creating a redirect page to make sure it links to the One True Page (to borrow from the film). --Syrthiss 19:15, 28 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

I've now cleaned up the other redirects you have made, including the one you made after I warned you. Please don't do that again. --Syrthiss 19:20, 28 December 2005 (UTC)Reply
My bad. I still don't completely understand redirects...Masterdebater 19:21, 28 December 2005 (UTC)Reply
Not a prob. The reason we want redirects to point to the target article instead of another redirect is mostly for bookkeeping, though there may be some deeper reason that I am not aware of at the moment. You can see when you've been redirected by little link at the top of the page that says something like:

The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (film)

(redirected from The Two Towers (film))

which is how I saw what was happening. I just wanted you to know so I didn't end up fixing redirects all day. =D --Syrthiss 19:26, 28 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

policy debate pages

edit

I really like the work you are doing on the debate pages. Keep in mind, however, that Wikipedia should not have an instructional and, especially, a national circuit tone. Try to write about the theory issues like an argument theory scholar would write about them, perhaps using scholastic debate as an example of their implementation. Images

edit

You need to provide sources for lots of your images. If you got them offline... from where? If you made them... how? etc. gren グレン 09:53, 30 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

Most all of them. Your copyright tags may be correct but when uploading you should provide the source of where you got them. Since it doesn't appear you scanned them yourself you need the website from which they were procured. Just do something like "Source:<url>" You might also want to give an image description.
edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Trollaragorn.jpg. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).

The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: {{TemplateName}}.

Please signify the copyright information on any other images you have uploaded or will upload. Remember that images without this important information can be deleted by an administrator. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me. Thank you. BRossow 21:54, 16 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

Image Tagging Image:Grond.jpg

edit

This media may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:Grond.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is therefore unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use {{GFDL-self}} to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media qualifies as fair use, please read fair use, and then use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other media, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Non-free use disputed for Image:Shadowfax.jpg

edit
  This file may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:Shadowfax.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read carefully the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content and then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our Criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 03:48, 6 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

ArbCom elections are now open!

edit

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
