Disambiguation

edit

How do I create an entry with the same name as another, so that it appears on a disambiguation page? Victor Canning used the pen name Alan Gould, and I would like to make a page for that name. However, there is a Canadian poet called Alan Gould with an extensive entry already.

The most common way to do this is by appending the profession of the other person to the entry name. For example, for the situation above, you could create a new entry such as [[Alan Gould (author)]]. Then at the top of the main Alan Gould article, you could place a small tag, indicating that there is another Alan Gould that readers may be searching for. For example, you could use:
{{otheruses4|an Australian poet|the works of Victor Canning under the pseudonym of Alan Gould|Alan Gould (author)}}
which would render as:
But creating a disambiguation page is another matter, and it doesn't happen automatically. If you want to know how to do this, see this Wikipedia page.
More advice:
Sign your posts (but not edits to articles), even on your own talk page, with 4 tildes (~~~~). The Wikipedia software automagically adds your name and a timestamp when you do that. — Frecklefσσt | Talk 12:17, 27 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Vanishing Point (novel)

edit

This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of Vanishing Point (novel), and it appears to include a substantial copy of http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/wordscape/canning/vanishing.html. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material; such additions will be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences.

This message was placed automatically, and it is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article and it would be appreciated if you could drop a note on the maintainer's talk page. CorenSearchBot 21:18, 6 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Proposed deletion of Simeon Suggs

edit

The article Simeon Suggs has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

This literary character doesn't seem to have received any attention outside the works of Kemelman. Not notable at all.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Greek fire, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Envoy Extraordinary (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

It's OK to remove this message. Also, to stop receiving these messages, follow these opt-out instructions. Thanks, DPL bot (talk) 07:50, 10 November 2019 (UTC)Reply
