How you can help

Hi Markoveuler! I noticed that you recently marked an edit as minor at Kathleen Fisher that may not have been. "Minor edit" has a very specific definition on Wikipedia – it refers only to superficial edits that could never be the subject of a dispute, such as typo corrections or reverting obvious vandalism. Any edit that changes the meaning of an article is not a minor edit, even if it only concerns a single word. Please see Help:Minor edit for more information. Thank you. BlackcurrantTea (talk) 16:26, 3 November 2020 (UTC)Reply

Thank you so much! I will pay attention to the proper usage of the Help:Minor edit label from now on. Markoveuler (talk) 12:16, 13 July 2021 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for letting me know and for starting this discussion. We are a group of students and faculty at Tufts working on creating and updating Wikipedia pages for underrepresented faculty members in STEM fields. We think Lin may meet one of the Notability criteria for academics for her research contribution and for winning the American Chemical Society OpenEye Outstanding Junior Faculty Award in Computational Chemistry[1] and the Machine Learning in the Chemical Sciences & Engineering Award from the Camille and Henry Dreyfus Foundation,[2] both at the national level and prestigious. Thank you! Markoveuler (talk) 17:04, 13 July 2021 (UTC)Reply
Hi Markoveuler, I'd recommend putting your comments on Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Yu-Shan Lin (chemist) as that is where the discussion will take place. In my experience it's fairly rare for academics to meet WP:NPROF before they are a full professor, and even then it's no guarantee of notability. As an aside, I'd also recommend being careful in terms of WP:COI in general. -Kj cheetham (talk)
Got it. In this case, I will let others comment. I tried staying as neutral as I could and my best at providing citations when writing the pages. Please don't hesitate to let me know if there's anything I can improve. Thank you for your help! Markoveuler (talk) 17:43, 13 July 2021 (UTC)Reply
Personally I thought the article was well written, and I am a great supporter of raising the profile of under-represented people in STEM, but in this particular case it seemed like WP:TOOSOON to me. We'll see what others say though. You might also be interested to look at WikiProjects like WP:WOMENSCI too. -Kj cheetham (talk) 17:50, 13 July 2021 (UTC)Reply
Thank you! I haven't read through everything on WP:WOMENSCI but can see that there is a lot of useful information there. Markoveuler (talk) 16:41, 15 July 2021 (UTC)Reply
Hi Kj cheetham: I wanted to send you a private message but don't know how to... I want to thank you again for providing a chance to review and discuss this article. By monitoring people's discussion (and keeping googling all the terms everyone used), I learned a lot about Wikipedia editing and in particular WP:NPROF, WP:AfD, and WP:COI. There are some other pages I am working on that I believe will benefit from your and the community's input as well. Anyway, thanks again! Markoveuler (talk) 12:09, 21 July 2021 (UTC)Reply

Hi Rich: Thank you for reviewing the article. Sorry I am quite new to editing Wikipedia and am still learning how to use the Sandbox... I hope the duplication problem is fixed now. Markoveuler (talk) 15:12, 17 July 2021 (UTC)Reply
Hi, as an aside, the recommended place for AFC article submissions is the Draft: namespace rather than the sandbox. Give me a shout if you'd like me to move it for you, or you're free to move it yourself - there's usually a handy option at the bottom of the yellow box when submitting. Alternatively you can go via the Page menu. -Kj cheetham (talk) 15:35, 17 July 2021 (UTC)Reply
Oh my goodness. Thank you! I just gave it a try and am hoping I did it right...
Looks ok to me! -Kj cheetham (talk) 16:59, 17 July 2021 (UTC)Reply
