FINAL chat with me, BunnyFlying

You actually bothered to read my blog[s]? I'm seriously flattered, but since I'm getting whiplash from logging on to ridiculous amounts of blog accounts, (and b/c of the suckiness of Bravenet blogs) I am just starting one blog and using tags to figure out the different sets. Please leave comments for me at my homepage's forums or something, at least until I decide which blog I am using as a main thing, since I think, as you so kindly pointed out to me, we should stop using Wikipedia as a social-networking site. Thanks. Unidentified Flying Bunny in the Sky Talk Contribs 21:59, 2 January 2008 (UTC)

Roll Call for WikiProject Artemis Fowl

Greetings from the Artemis Fowl Project. Your name is listed on our participants page, but we are unsure of how many of the people listed there are still active contributors to the Project's activities. If you are still interested in participating in the work of the Project, please add your name to the active list. Once you have done that, you might want to familiarise yourself with the current work. On behalf of the Project, if you do consider yourself to have left, I hope you will consider rejoining; if you consider yourself inactive, I hope you will consider returning to respond to just one request per week, or as many as you can manage. Happy editing, The Artemis Fowl Project Coordinators'.

Really Final Comments, I promise! (About Archival)

Thanks for the archival of my talk page-I was going to do it myself, but I couldn't figure it out. Isn't automatic archival of ONE DAY a bit much? Well, do what you like. I got a new email (parents still blissfully unaware): my first name pronounced backwards (divide into syllables and put them backwards) DOT my first name DOT my first name spelled backwards @ gmail.com. Use that to contact me instead of the talk page, and we can stop the whole rigmarole. And I intend to be at Chamber Music tomorrow. It has been done. Unidentified Flying Bunny in the Sky Talk Contribs 03:51, 9 January 2008 (UTC)

QUESTIONS (urgent)

  Resolved

I've been trying to get User:MiszaBot III to auto-archive this talk page, but it doesn't seem to be working. Can someone check and see what the problem is? Thanks. Calvin 1998 (talk) 02:02, 9 January 2008 (UTC)

  Resolved

The scripts for Twinkle and Friendly I have in my monobook.js page don't work. The scripts don't show up. There's no rollback in diff pages, and no additional tabs on the pages. As far as I can tell I have the code right, but can someone look at them? Thanks! Calvin 1998 (talk) 04:10, 9 January 2008 (UTC)

You may have to bypass your browser's cache in order to get the scripts to work. I hope this helps you. VivioFateFan (Talk, Sandbox) 08:12, 9 January 2008 (UTC)
Just as a backup to what VivioFateFan said, that is correct. Try either "ctrl + shift + r" or "ctrl + F5". Pumpmeup 10:08, 9 January 2008 (UTC)
No, bypassing cache didn't work, and I even cleared my cache. No results. I don't have ZoneAlarm or Norton Security, so not that either.
Try fixing this line "importScript {'User:AzaToth/morebits.js);" to read "importScript('User:AzaToth/morebits.js);" Stwalkerstertalk ] 22:51, 9 January 2008 (UTC)
Actually, you shouldn't need that line because morebits.js is included in Twinkle. If this hasn't fixed it, remove the "tlx|" from the helpme tag. :)Stwalkerstertalk ] 22:58, 9 January 2008 (UTC)
Nope, neither Twinkle or Friendly work. Cleared cache, still nothing. And the Friendly page says "importScript" won't let you import the same script twice, so there isn't a problem. Strange. Calvin 1998 (talk) 01:09, 10 January 2008 (UTC)
Actually, removing the morebits line seems to have fixed the problem. It's probably what Stwalkerster said on his first comment. Thanks to all of you! Calvin 1998 (talk) 01:13, 10 January 2008 (UTC)

Help(again)

  Resolved

I need help formatting my user page. I switched the syntax from HTML to wiki-table, and I can't figure out how to get rid of all those borders in the wiki-table (there's borders around everything now). Can someone go through and fix that? Thanks! Calvin 1998 Talk Contribs 05:39, 17 January 2008 (UTC)

I changed it to what I think you wanted. the "class: wikitable" is just a preset style, so if you don't want that specific style, you don't it. Also, border and cell padding go outside of the style:"" parameter. If you need anything else, let me know! --Evan Seeds (talk)(contrib.) 06:13, 17 January 2008 (UTC)

Re: finding Tor nodes

Simple. I have Tor installed, so I simply enabled it in Firefox, then kept telling Tor to provide me with a new exit node. Then, every time I got a new node, I went to Special:Mytalk (try this while logged out- it'll just show your username) and checked whether someone had dropped a notice about it being blocked on there. Finding open proxies

There are various ways. The main way I use is to look at the ClueBot portscan or run the port scanners I have, and then use Firefox to connect through the IP as a proxy. Nwwaew (Talk Page) (Contribs) (E-mail me) 01:31, 9 February 2008 (UTC)

Redirect

Hi Calvin,

I am new to Wikipedia. I would like the page that bears my name, after a search of "Greg Snyder", to list my biography. Someone with a similar name to mine, a "Ggreg Snyder" has a redirect on my page to his own biography. That's fine, as long as my info is not deleted and we can both be listed under my name heading. I updated my page before to talk about me, but someone deleted my info and returned it to his redirect heading. How can this be rectified?

Tell me how it works.

Thanks, Greg Snyder —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.57.44.85 (talk) 00:05, 11 March 2008 (UTC)

STS-123 prose

Hi! Thanks very much for your input regarding the structure of the STS-123 article. I have removed the {{prose}} tag you added, even though I agree with you that more use of prose in that article would be a "good thing." The trouble is in finding a way to do that. Do you have any suggestions for how it should be done? If so, let's discuss it at Talk:STS-123! (sdsds - talk) 02:28, 12 March 2008 (UTC)

Regarding my edit, and your message to me

I admire your desire to keep the "webs" clean, Calvin 1998, but you should read the entire edit, or at the very least skim over the entire edit before you erase it and/or demand sources for a particular text.

In my posted essay on the Henry Oliver Walker Wikipedia page, I have clearly provided a "works cited" portion which explains where I have obtained my information.

Regards, Chad

--Arthistoryguy (talk) 02:28, 19 March 2008 (UTC)

No good, must be paraphrased, and anyhow, cited works go in the "References" section, and we use inline citations. If you need help with this stuff, just ask me. Calvin 1998 (t-c) 02:36, 19 March 2008 (UTC)
Hi Calvin 1998. I spent quite a bit of time looking up Wiki policies and learned quite a bit about citation and linking. Could you give the page a once-over and let me know if I've updated it correctly and provided the correct citations? Please let me know if I need to update it. Thanks.

I think it's obvious it's vandalism, schools usually have more than "3 or maybe 4" classrooms, and the IP has an extensive vandalism history. Calvin 1998 (t-c) 03:19, 21 March 2008 (UTC)
I agree that the other edits were vandalism, however that one treads a fine line. If I had been in your position I probably would not have made the revert, but now that I look more closely at the other edits I agree that the edit was made in an attempt to harm the encyclopedia. My Bad --Chris 03:33, 21 March 2008 (UTC)
The diff clearly shows, above his edit, that it has "four science labs, two libraries with more than 20,000 volumes, two dance studios, a ceramics studio, two gymnasiums, several media centers, a 300-seat theater/meeting house, a woodshop, a cafeteria, and roof-top playground, and also two computer labs". I would say "3 or maybe 4" is an understatement! Calvin 1998 (t-c) 03:36, 21 March 2008 (UTC)

Hi Calvin 1998. Could you explain what this means? If you're able to identify open proxies through their access methods it can help when it comes to both blocking and unblocking them. Otherwise, without verification they are unlikely to be blocked. Let me know if I can help with your understanding of open proxies. Thanks. -- zzuuzz (talk) 18:42, 21 March 2008 (UTC)

Never mind, I messed up my settings. If it is an open proxy, it's not on HTTP port 80 or 8080 or 3128, making it unlikely. Calvin 1998 (t-c) 19:17, 21 March 2008 (UTC)

What are you talking about??? I was fixing vandalism. The IP 76.242.53.75 put Fatass's 2008 season THAT is vandalism. I changed it to 2008 season that is not vandalism. Im not the vandal.(Rhinostampede (talk) 15:45, 23 March 2008 (UTC))

Take a good look at Tony Stewart's page with your edit. Do you notice something different? (Rhinostampede (talk) 15:45, 23 March 2008 (UTC))

Sorry about that. Next time, please provide diffs so I can see exactly what was going on. Calvin 1998 (t-c) 17:45, 23 March 2008 (UTC)

I made a small edit to the page on "Lipton" correcting the date of when Unilever purchased the Canadian and US branches of Lipton. This user, Calvin 1998 changed my correction and sent me a private message calling me a foul name and questioning the validity of my birth father. I was extremely appalled to see this, and want others to know that this seventh grader is not as nice of a person as he seems to be. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 96.228.14.228 (talk) 22:03, 23 March 2008 (UTC)

Must have been several days ago, then, as I haven't made an edit to the page Lipton in my last 1000 edits. As I have said to the previous 10 people who have come complaining about false positives, provide diffs so I can see what went wrong. Calvin 1998 (t-c) 22:06, 23 March 2008 (UTC)
You? The only edit you've ever made was a vandalism edit to the page Ham as proved by the special page Special:Contributions/96.228.14.228, which doesn't lie. Calvin 1998 (t-c) 22:08, 23 March 2008 (UTC)

Yes, I have been vandalized that many times. This is not surprizing considering that at least 18500 of my ~20000 edits are vandalism reversions and warnings. Several people have asked me why I don't protect my userpages. This is what I told them:

My edit to Turok (2008 game)

Hey there, I would like to ask why my edit was changed. I changed Giganotosaurus to Unknown large theropod because there are no sources stating it is a Giganotosaurus. I think we should keep it as Unknown large theropod until we can find some sources stating it is a Giganotosaurus. 72.133.252.224 (talk) 18:27, 27 March 2008 (UTC)

If it says Gigantosaurus, keep it that way. It's probably correct. And please note: Provide diffs or I cannot investigate the case. ' Calvin 1998 (t-c) 18:29, 27 March 2008 (UTC)
So if I put in dog food...It would probably be correct? My point is it needs sources to prove it and there are no sources to provide it. 72.133.252.224 (talk) 18:36, 27 March 2008 (UTC)
Usually you'd keep it unless it is either a.)blatant vandalism b.)contentious unsourced information on an article of a living person or c.)obviously incorrect. That information falls under none of these categories, therefore it's best to keep it. Calvin 1998 (t-c) 18:40, 27 March 2008 (UTC)
It fall under c.) obviously incorect. Why? Because its unsourced. 72.133.252.224 (talk) 18:54, 27 March 2008 (UTC)
Unsourced ≠ obviously incorrect. By obviously incorrect, I mean if someone put George W. Bush's gender as female. Calvin 1998 (t-c) 18:57, 27 March 2008 (UTC)
Alright nm then, as it is. 72.133.252.224 (talk) 19:05, 27 March 2008 (UTC)

Question about how you learned to edit

Hello, I recalled seeing one of your questions on the Help desk, and when I answer a user's question, I often check the user's page to get an idea of the user's editing experience on Wikipedia. In the real world, I often tell adults about the benefits of editing on wikis, but I find many of my fellow old farts are terrified to learn anything new after the age of 25 or so, and for lots of people that was so long ago that they probably cannot remember what learning feels like. Naturally I like to twit them by noting that lots of middle school students are able to figure out how to edit on Wikipedia, and some have even become administrators. I'm curious about how much of Wikipedia you were able to learn just by browsing around the site and reading the friendly manuals. Did you get help from humans in the real world, or did you learn Wikipedia with nothing but your Internet connection? --Teratornis (talk) 07:04, 28 March 2008 (UTC)

I more or less learned all about Wikipedia by following all the links around, learning about policies when I saw a link to one, etc. I never received help from "humans in the real world". Calvin 1998 (t-c) 16:55, 28 March 2008 (UTC)
That's very helpful to know. I also learned to use Wikipedia with no help from humans in the real world (while I have helped several other humans in the real world learn wiki editing), but I am not a good example to illustrate how easy Wikipedia is to get started with, because I've worked with computers for years, and I've used several other markup languages and so on. Someone who fears Wikipedia might think they have no chance without a lot of computer experience, and I can't use myself as a comforting counterexample. It's more convincing to Wikipedia doubters if I can point them to the impressive progress you have made, presumably without decades of computer experience coming in. You might be a genius, but I don't have to tell them that. I'll just go with: "Wikipedia is simple enough for a seventh-grader to figure out with no in-person help." --Teratornis (talk) 21:37, 28 March 2008 (UTC)

Much obliged

Thanks. I've permabanned the guy. 23skidoo (talk) 04:07, 30 March 2008 (UTC)

Question

You answered my question on Ale jrb's talk page about what is a mainspace edit. Thanks. But do nominating articles for speedy and non-speedy deletion count towards that? Thanks. P. S. I'm also in seventh grade. I think there might have been a Wikiproject for that or something. We and some other kids should get that together again. If you could, reply on my talk page. Thanks. Me what do u want? Your Hancock Please —Preceding comment was added at 23:38, 1 April 2008 (UTC) So that is a yes, right? And do you have any comments on the youth thing. Thanks. Me what do u want? Your Hancock Please 01:00, 2 April 2008 (UTC)

That's a yes. And I'm not really sure about the youth thing, it doesn't really fit the WikiProject requirements. Calvin 1998 (t-c) 01:02, 2 April 2008 (UTC)

posting message

Greetings.

I frequently visit Wikipedia to read about a variety of things. When I hopped on tonight, I had a message from you about a change made to an edit I supposedly did on the 'Maine' page. I am confused. I have never made any changes to ANY pages on Wikipedia. I wouldn't have a clue how and don't feel I'm an authority to comment on anything anyway. As I noticed that my IP address was attached to it, I am concerned. Is is possible someone else could make edits on Wiki from my IP address? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 12.152.204.245 (talk) 01:13, 2 April 2008 (UTC)

Thanks

Just to say that I noticed your reversion on my talk page, and to say danke for it. Thanks! Sandy of the CSARs (talk) 02:27, 2 April 2008 (UTC)

Pics

How do I add the stuff in my pictures now?Mattkenn3 (talk) 23:46, 2 April 2008 (UTC)

Go to the image page, click "edit this page", then fill out the "Summary" section. It should look like this:

== Summary ==
{{Information
|Description=
|Source=
|Date=
|Location=
|Author=
|Permission=
|other_versions=
}}
Fill out the form, then save the page. (note- for the permissions section, put a link to the "licensing" section). Hope this helps! Calvin 1998 (t-c) 23:57, 2 April 2008 (UTC)

Unbelievable

  Resolved

Hello Calvin 1998 - I have just spent half an hour adding stuff to the page on San_Clemente_Abbey in the Abruzzo in order to flesh it out, add further information, correct a mistake and add a link to a whole lot of photos. And you wipe out all this work after one minute saying that it is not useful. Please explain exactly what is not useful and what your qualifications are for saying this because there is not much point in wasting time trying to help Wikipedia if this sort of nonsense is what happens. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 203.134.85.85 (talk) 06:48, 6 April 2008 (UTC)

Changing the word "pulpit" to the word "ambo" appears like vandalism. The rollback tool used to remove vandalism reverts all edits made by the revertee. Therefore, all your work was reverted. Sorry 'bout it, I've un-reverted. Calvin 1998 (t-c) 07:01, 6 April 2008 (UTC)

Thanks - fyi an Ambo is used for readings whereas a pulpit is for for preachings (most churches had both) - a medieval distinction which I guess it would be unreasonable to expect 2008 rollback tools to know about! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 203.134.85.85 (talk) 07:08, 6 April 2008 (UTC)
