Cognates unknown

In the malayalam article talk page you have asked about the malayalam script in the table for short words. The table which was in kannada was converted by software into malayalam and since Iam not well versed with malayalam I could not enter the proper cognates into the software and converted it in bare format. This only made the font appear in malayalam and kept the words in kannada. That is why I said to correct it using proper words and then use it. Thanks. sundar. 27.57.75.203 (talk) 05:07, 3 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

Tl;DR

Perhaps you should read my nomination. Don't fault a complete nomination for being complete. If you had read it, you might realize that WP:NSONGS is a stricter test than WP:GNG. It's quite possible for a song to pass the GNG but not pass NSONGS, and song articles are supposed to pass both.—Kww(talk) 18:24, 12 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

Reply posted in the nominated article's AfD entry. --Joshua Issac (talk) 20:20, 12 January 2011 (UTC)Reply
Would appreciate a reply either here or there to my comment there. Short version: it can't be an "or", because WP:NSONGS states that you have to pass WP:N by saying "All articles on albums, singles or songs must meet the basic criteria at the notability guidelines, with significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject.. If you "or" the guidelines, NSONGS doesn't have any effect in any case.—Kww(talk) 14:37, 13 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

Jews and Judaism in the African diaspora

Hello. I'm confused by the hatnote you added to Jews and Judaism in the African diaspora. Why would somebody type "Jews and Judaism in the African diaspora" if they were looking for Jews in India? Isn't that the general purpose of hatnotes, to help readers find their way between similarly named articles? — Malik Shabazz Talk/Stalk 23:56, 15 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

Black Jews redirects to Jews and Judaism in the African diaspora. There is (or was) a community of Jews in Malabar known as Black Jews. --Joshua Issac (talk) 00:07, 16 January 2011 (UTC)Reply
Thanks. I'll clarify the hatnote. — Malik Shabazz Talk/Stalk 00:25, 16 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

RE Dovico Company

Many thanks for removing the A7 on Dovico (company). The article now stands in line as completely unbiased, and has been made notable with various case studies, reviews, lists Dovico has appeared on and an award they received in 2002. Ongoing work is occurring to make the article ever more notable. I'd much appreciate your input on the new Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Dovico_(company) page that has been created for Dovico, as it is a genuinely notable product that has been in service for many, many years.

Any help is much appreciated.

CTB v News Group Newspapers

Hi, just thought I'd let you know that I thought your revert here was incorrect; while the new editor formatted the change slightly strangely, the lede sentence (which I think they meant) "CTB v News Group Newspapers is a British legal case between claimant CTB (Ryan Giggs) and defendants News Group Newspapers Limited and Imogen Thomas" would be quite correct. Since it's in the lede it wouldn't have to be sourced, as it is sourced later in the article. Keep up the good work, doomgaze (talk) 14:17, 22 May 2011 (UTC)Reply

OK, thank you for letting me know. I have removed the warning from the editor's talk page. --Joshua Issac (talk) 14:21, 22 May 2011 (UTC)Reply

2011 British super-injunction controversy

I'm sorry, but I'm having a very hard time seeing this as a good faith edit. I don't think it's credible that anyone editing that page this morning would have not known that there exist a plethora of reliable sources for the assertion you removed. Rather than removing notable content under the specious claim that it was unsourced, a much more productive action you could have taken would have been to add a citation. Please remember that Wikipedia isn't subject to British law, nor is it censored. 24.177.120.138 (talk) 17:15, 22 May 2011 (UTC)Reply

Sorry, I do not follow celebrity news, and I got to the article through a recent changes feed (as the edit summary suggests), rather than by searching for it, so I was unaware of the case and the people in question, and could not have known about the numerous sources which backed up the claim. As I saw it, it was an addition of potentially contentious content presumably about a living person, without any sources, which I believed to be a violation of Wikipedia's policy on biographies of living people (see also: WP:BLPNAME). I have come across other instances of Alice has cheated on Bob and Charlie likes to sleep with Dave on Wikipedia, and those were always unconstructive edits, so I just assumed that this was such a case. I should have assumed good faith instead and searched for sources, but my edit was also in good faith, and was not an attempt to harm the project. --Joshua Issac (talk) 21:50, 22 May 2011 (UTC)Reply

How can an individual contributor edit the UFC main or talk pages.

Those two pages seem to be written in non-standard format. Is that intentional? Demodave (talk) 04:57, 5 June 2011 (UTC)Reply

Regarding your inappropriate comment on Talk:Joseph Kony

This edit has nothing to do with improving the article on Joseph Kony and you should not have made it there. If you think I have made a mistake, you are welcome to bring it to my attention on my talk page, as I am doing here. I suggest that you take a few moments to be sure about your facts before you correct people, though, because in this case you are mostly mistaken. The requester is registered, but not autoconfirmed. Despite your overly detailed explanation of how he obviously can't upload the picture, I ran the experiment and found that you are mistaken. It turns out that an unregistered user cannot upload, but a registered, non-autoconfirmed user, as is the case here, is given an explanation and allowed to upload to the commons. (I assume you understand that the reason I direct them to the upload page is to allow them the opportunity to attest as to our right to use the picture.) I have given the same advice to unregistered users in the past, so I appreciate knowing that we no longer allow them to upload pictures. I'll do a little research and find out what arrangements we have made for our unregistered editors so that I can direct them appropriately. Regards, Celestra (talk) 23:47, 11 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

Sorry, I forgot that the editor would still be able to upload to Commons. --Joshua Issac (talk) 18:32, 26 April 2012 (UTC)Reply

WikiProject India Tag & Assess 2012 Contest

Hello friends, we are a number of editors from WikiProject India have got together to assess the many thousands of articles under the stewardship of the project, and we'd love to have you, a fellow member, join us. These articles require assessment, that is, the addition of a WikiProject template to the talk page of an article, assessing it for quality and importance and adding a few extra parameters to it.

As of March 11, 2012, 07:00 UTC, WikiProject India has 95,998 articles under its stewardship. Of these 13,980 articles are completely unassessed (both for class and importance) and another 42,415 articles are unassessed for importance only. Accordingly, a Tag & Assess 2012 drive-cum-contest has begun from March 01, 2012 to last till May 31, 2012.

If you are new to assessment, you can learn the minimum about how to evaluate from Part One of the Assessment Guide. Part Two of the Guide will help you learn to employ the full functionality of the talk page template, should you choose to do so.

You can sign up on the Tag & Assess page. There are a number of awards to be given in recognition of your efforts. Come & join us to take part in this exciting new venture. You'll learn more about India in this way.

ACC Mentoring

Greetings.

In light of some recent events, I am required to find a mentor to work with me on ACC if I am to stay involved in tool use. Basically I made some pretty stupid mistakes and now to regain tool access I need to work with someone who is knowledgeable and skilled with ACC for a period of no less than 3 months and for no less than 50 approved creations. I was wondering if you might be interested or willing to help me out as you have so much experience. Thanks -- ТимофейЛееСуда. 12:43, 27 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

Hello ТимофейЛее Суда! I would gladly help you out. I must mention that have not mentored anyone before, and I have exams over the next three months, so I will be a bit busy, but I should still be available on the IRC channel, on-wiki, et cetera. If that is OK, then I'll happily work with you as a mentor. Regards. --Joshua Issac (talk) 00:03, 28 March 2012 (UTC)Reply
That would be perfect. I've never been mentored before, so it'll be a learning experience for us both. I will try not to take too much of your time. I think basically what I need in the mentoring field is someone to sort of quiz me on the ACC/G with maybe sample situations to show that I am ready. Then I will request tool access back under the above mentioned 3+month & 50+successful closes but I will only create accounts when I can work with you on them. Does that sound doable for you? I am more than happy to work around your schedule. -- ТимофейЛееСуда. 12:12, 28 March 2012 (UTC)Reply
Yes, that sounds good. Do you use the Account Creators' chat room on IRC? --Joshua Issac (talk) 15:40, 3 April 2012 (UTC)Reply
I haven't previously but I have decided to per discussions with tool administrators. I will be under the username THMOPENREECYRA as my client does not accept the characters in my username. -- ТимофейЛееСуда. 17:18, 3 April 2012 (UTC)Reply
Just to let you know, I requested indefinite suspension on the tool. I just cannot seem to do anything right, and as I am causing more difficulty I need to leave ACC alone. I hope this doesn't reflect badly on you, as you were a great help. My constant user errors makes life difficult for everyone. Thanks for your time. -- ТимофейЛееСуда. 20:01, 18 May 2012 (UTC)Reply
I am sorry that I couldn't provide you with as much help as I should have. :( I wasn't as active on ACC or the IRC channel as I'd hoped to be. I hope that you will come back to ACC in the future. Regards. --Joshua Issac (talk) 14:56, 19 May 2012 (UTC)Reply
Don't apologize. It wasn't that you weren't as active, and you told me ahead of time that would be an issue. It was all that the few that I attempted I would make very stupid mistakes. Thanks for everything. -- ТимофейЛееСуда. 18:39, 19 May 2012 (UTC)Reply

G'day, is the best title I can think of

Greetings,

From what you described of yourself on your user page I must confess you and I do not seem all to different! See I enjoy applied mathematics [the sort of stuff I like is solving ODEs with Spectral Methods using the Math Software, MATLAB] although pure mathematics is not too bad I just prefer applied. Plus I am a Christian, with an interest in Christianity, Islam and Judaism [not too odd, afterall race wise I am 1/4 Ashkenazi Jewish], and the Arabic, Aramaic, Greek and Hebrew languages although I will be honest with you and say I only know a handful of phrases and some of the basic qualities of those languages. Since you said "Christianity" as your religion and omitted any specific denomination I guess that you have no denomination, is this true? I myself am non-denominational although I believe Jehovah's Witnesses have some points that are valid, however before you start to attack their theology [which is quite normal amoung Christians I find] I will clarify which ones I am referring to. Firstly I believe in the Trinity so that one of their beliefs [that is anti-trinitarianism] I reject, as for blood transfusions I believe they are [blood transfusions that is] strictly speaking contrary to what the Bible teaches however I believe it is a little like the Sabbath, Jesus broke the sabbath because the Sabbath is a law that was designed for our own physical needs of rest, whereas when people's lives are at risk by doing no work on the sabbath this law may be broken without any guilt, likewise when it is possible for someone to live without blood transfusions then they are prohibited but if they are required to keep someone alive they are permitted. But their beliefs that God gave us his name for us to use it and not lock it up like a material so precious and delicate that we just lock it up and never make use of it I believe to be correct. I do not believe God will throw people into the lake of fire for not using his name but it I still think if we want to have a close relationship to him we should probably use closer more personal names/titles like the one Jesus used in prayer, "Abba [Aramaic for daddy] father"

Fuse809 (talk) 08:18, 11 April 2012 (UTC)Reply

Hello! It is good to meet someone who shares similar interests. :) I enjoy analysis mainly, but a lot of I am studying at the moment (e.g., PDEs) would probably count as applied. I was brought up in a Pentecostal background and consider myself a Pentecostal, but I like to keep an open mind, and I do not reject other views just because of denominational differences. The church I currently attend is Baptist, and the one I was going to before was Methodist. I agree with you on your view about referring to God by His name. The Bible in my native language, Malayalam, uses the term Yahōva, and people at the churches I went to in India often use the name when praying and preaching. My interest in Judaism stems from the fact that there was a large, ancient Jewish community near the city I grew up in, and they have had a significant impact on the local culture and society. Sorry about the late reply. I have a lot of exams, so I have not been able to go on Wikipedia very often. --Joshua Issac (talk) 18:17, 26 April 2012 (UTC)Reply
