Duane Dickey and Andrew Crater
Hello Joe. I have raised concerns about these articles at Wikipedia:Biographies_of_living_persons/Noticeboard#Duane_Dickey and the following section; you may wish to participate there. In particular, I'm concerned that these relatively unknown persons have articles comprised only of negative information (even if true), and that undue weight therefore is given to their misdeeds. The article Duane Dickey has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- This person is only known for one event, and that is negative. WP:BLP would suggest that we should not have an article on him.
While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Sorry to have to do that. Howdy... I was tagging the biographical section on the talk page and noticed your comments about referencing. I can show you how to do referencing. It is very, very easy to do once you know the template and there's a nice web page that tells the syntax of the templates. The template does all the hard work for ya so you don't have to. Referencing
Wiki uses templates for referencing, so you don't have to worry about if something is in bold/italics or what order the information is in. A page to all the citation templates are at Wikipedia:Citation_templates. I can remember a few of them, but for some of them, I can't remember all the options so I have to look at the page too. 85% of my references are to simple web pages. Note: accessdate mean the date you viewed the web page.
An example of citing a web page would be:
<ref>{{cite web | url= | title= | publisher= | accessdate=}}<ref>
So, if I was referencing your About page on your web site, it would be:
<ref>{{cite web | url=http://www.josephpapp.com/index.php/about | title=About Joe
| publisher=Joseph Papp | accessdate=February 15, 2011}}</ref>
To have the references show up towards the bottom of the article, you do:
==References==
{{reflist}}
The "==" means to draw a line and create a new section.
The "reflist" means for Wiki to put the references starting here. Wiki handles the ordering of the references, so you don't have to do it.
Photos
1st thing to do is setup an account on the Commons web site. If you put photos on Commons, then any Wikipedia owned site (Italian Wiki, German Wiki, English, etc) can use the image. You can have your current English Wikipedia account be active on all Wikipedia sites, including Commons, so you can keep one username/password between them all.
Goto Special:MergeAccount and follow the instructions (I hope that is the right page, it has been awhile for me since I did it).
After you created the account:
1) goto commons.wikimedia.org. On the left side menu, there is an option called "upload file", click on it.
2) click on "entirely my own work"
3) scroll towards the bottom and enter in the information. You can ignore, "Other versions", "Permission", "Additional info" and "Categories". But make sure you enter info in "Licensing"... it's towards the bottom and a little hidden. After you click "upload file" at the bottom, it will tell you if you forgot to add some info in a required field.
Photos in an article
To add your photo in an article, type in:
[[File:Name of Photo.jpg|position|size]] Example: [[File:George W Emery.jpg|right|100px]]
Size can be "75px", which is small. Size can be "200px", which is bigger. Use any number to get the size you want.
Positions is either left or right... left or right side of the article.
Sandbox
You can create an article where you can experiment. The article is called a "sandbox".
Goto your User Page. At the top of your web browser's address bar, type "/Sandbox" after User:Joep01
The first time you will create a new sanbox page, but you won't have to after that.
My sandbox page is here. I was modifying a HUGE table that was going to take several days to do. Instead of having the real article be a mess for a few days, I did it my sandbox and then copied the code over when I was done.

Progress in the right direction I would say. I think more citations, and wiki-linking is needed. It might be a contender for B-class soon. You could also try nominating some fact from this article for DYK. I was just working on the Helmut Wick article. You may want to copy some of the structure. - Am not familiar w/ Obermaier's book and pulled the attributed content directly from the site in question, to which I attributed it. Hi Joe. I reverted your edits at Alexander Vinokourov as the tone is unsuitable for a Wikipedia article. Please see Wikipedia's guideline on maintaining a neutral point of view. Also, here are some guidelines on avoiding promotional wording. - Those new photos look great, Joe. I have asked about six editors that are on the wiki cycling project page to comment, but so far none have come by to do so. We ought to give it a few more days and then apply for an administrator to split out the doping content and make a separate new article of it. I think that's pretty darn good, Joe. Well written, and it shows a courage to Greg. I don't know if people understand how hard that must have been for him to do, to bring that out into the public sphere. Very gutty. Anyway, that puts the article at 92 kilobytes, and the guideline for article length is that articles should be about 35 to 50 kilobytes in length, so we are way over, and there are still more things to say. - I know we're way over. I tested the article w/ the majority of the anti-doping controversy stuff removed and it was still 70kb+. The only thing left that I want to put in is some stuff about the beginning of his cycling...but yeah, no matter what we'll be over. Are references included in the total size? I guess so. Hmm..not sure how it would effect the results of our review. Guess we just need to be sure that the prose is as tight as possible so that, even if it's long, it's not complicated reading...joepaT 00:32, 12 December 2012 (UTC)
- Yeah, it's okay. The guideline is that if you are over 100 kilobytes than you almost certainly need to split or pair down the article. The size issue stems from their desire to have articles that can be read in 45 minutes or so. Some of our volume is in notations and quotes that are off the main article, so that should not be an issue. I think we will be okay if we can get the thing split. I have the article listed as "articles to be split", but I don't know how it actually is done. I think you need an administrator to perform the function. I just want to say I admire the work you do on the Greg LeMond article. It is a most prodigious effort. I also spoke to you via the page for Alexander Vinokourov, though I imagine you do not return there to edit. Though you could make a whirlwind improvement if you come with the same discipline as you and your collaborator(s) exercise with LeMond's entry. I also expressed my support for removal of a controversial section on controversies. But the article is much more interesting to read that Vinok's, alas.Azx2 10:35, 12 December 2012 (UTC)

Re:LeMond
The best I can find at present appears to be this article from the Sun-Sentinel of late October 1987:
Ten professional teams from the United States and Europe, including LeMond`s Dutch-based PDM team, are competing. National amateur teams from Venezuela, Brazil and Mexico, preparing for the 1988 Summer Olympics, also are entered.
I did also locate the opening snippet of another publication in the Chicago Sun-Times from August 1987, under the headline "Le Mond Recycled", however it was only a preview of it...

- Awwwww! Thanks man! I genuinely appreciate it! This is great!!! I've really enjoyed collaborating with you and had no idea that that initial inquiry and request for help editing the article would morph into a GA-status effort! Have you checked to see how much the article has grown since we started working on it? I know size isn't the only thing that matters (lol!), but I bet the article has doubled in size, while increasing 10x in overall quality! Especially with the photos! Who knew that just asking photogs on flickr to share for the good of the cause could produce such results! And I'm still working on getting the PDM guy to modify his image license so we can use that one! (the one that was autobot-deleted lol after I included it in the article yesterday, not realizing the license had an unacceptable tag to it. Anyway, thanks again! Alt text
To add alt text you just type "|alt=" then you describe what is going on in the image. I personally just describe it blandly or just describing the image another way than what the caption says.
Ex. [ [file:bike rider mcgee.jpg|thumb|right or left|Bike rider Mcgee on his bike.|alt= A man riding his bike.]].
If that doesn't help that much I understand, I'm not the best at explaining. There is probably a guide on how to do it like Wikipedia:Images or something. Disc Wheel (Malk + Montributions) 21:09, 28 May 2013 (UTC)

- I understand and that's certainly reasonable. I appreciate the edits that you have made, and the feedback and insights you've provided. - Okay so I'm going through and filling out the sources, trimming them the unnecessary text, and merging the same refs. While doing that, I noticed that the prose there are just lots of quotes from what I've seen - which is not a good thing if your aims are FA status. Rather than quoting, you could just paraphrase and whatnot. Ex. " but before he abandoned, LeMond admitted, "My climbing is not like usual. I've climbed much better in the past Tours. This year I'm just not feeling my usual self."[97] " - That could easily be rephrased into "but before he abandoned, LeMond claimed his climbing had been off compared to his past years." or something. Another: "The rest were just pure suffering, struggling, fatigue, always tired." - One could just say that LeMond suffered in the last three months. See what I'm saying. I'm going to finish tinkering with the sources in the coming days.
Okay, Joe. That's about as far as I can take it. Couple of things still need to be done, couple of sources tracked down (can you prove he rode carbon fiber frames in 1989 and 1990?) and one sentence in the lead is still problematic from my perspective, but otherwise I think you could give it a go. March Madness 2017
G'day all, please be advised that throughout March 2017 the Military history Wikiproject is running its March Madness drive. This is a backlog drive that is focused on several key areas:
- tagging and assessing articles that fall within the project's scope
- updating the project's currently listed A-class articles to ensure their ongoing compliance with the listed criteria
- creating articles that are listed as "requested" on the project's various task force pages or other lists of missing articles.
As with past Milhist drives, there are points awarded for working on articles in the targeted areas, with barnstars being awarded at the end for different levels of achievement.
The drive is open to all Wikipedians, not just members of the Military history project, although only work on articles that fall (broadly) within the military history scope will be considered eligible. More information can be found here for those that are interested, and members can sign up as participants at that page also.
The drive starts at 00:01 UTC on 1 March and runs until 23:59 UTC on 31 March 2017, so please sign up now.

"Military history" is one of the most important subjects when speak of sum of all human knowledge. To support contributors interested in the area over various language Wikipedias, we intend to form a user group. April 2018 Milhist Backlog Drive
G'day all, please be advised that throughout April 2018 the Military history Wikiproject is running its annual backlog elimination drive. This will focus on several key areas:
- tagging and assessing articles that fall within the project's scope
- adding or improving listed resources on Milhist's task force pages
- updating the open tasks template on Milhist's task force pages
- creating articles that are listed as "requested" on the project's various lists of missing articles.
As with past Milhist drives, there are points awarded for working on articles in the targeted areas, with barnstars being awarded at the end for different levels of achievement.
The drive is open to all Wikipedians, not just members of the Military history project, although only work on articles that fall (broadly) within the scope of military history will be considered eligible. This year, the Military history project would like to extend a specific welcome to members of Wikipedia:WikiProject Women in Red, and we would like to encourage all participants to consider working on helping to improve our coverage of women in the military. This is not the sole focus of the edit-a-thon, though, and there are aspects that hopefully will appeal to pretty much everyone.
The drive starts at 00:01 UTC on 1 April and runs until 23:59 UTC on 30 April 2018. Those interested in participating can sign up here.

Wikiproject Military history coordinator election nominations open
Nominations for the upcoming project coordinator election are now open. A team of up to ten coordinators will be elected for the next year. The project coordinators are the designated points of contact for issues concerning the project, and are responsible for maintaining our internal structure and processes. They do not, however, have any authority over article content or editor conduct, or any other special powers. More information on being a coordinator is available here. ArbCom 2018 election voter message
Hello, Joep01. Voting in the 2018 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23.59 on Sunday, 3 December. All users who registered an account before Sunday, 28 October 2018, made at least 150 mainspace edits before Thursday, 1 November 2018 and are not currently blocked are eligible to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.
The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.
