Hi Trevj, I used a separate page for this as it is a large amount of information to have on the main page. I created the list page as it would clog up the main article. How would I get around this? thanksJoebrunton (talk) 14:53, 26 November 2012 (UTC)Reply
That's understandable, but the question is whether the list is itself notable. I see that you yourself were men's captain, then secretary and then president. The club itself is probably notable if it's been discussed by independent reliable sources (per WP:CLUB), but such committee positions and holders are unlikely to be notable, and Wikipedia is not really the place for such information IMO, as it can be published on the Old Blades' site. However, if specific notable developments in the club's history are attributed in reliable sources to certain individuals, then they could reasonably be mentioned within prose as part of the main article. It'd be helpful if any former members have kept copies of local newspaper coverage, etc. because the club's history cannot be presented here on Wikipedia with much degree of certainty unless the content is appropriately sourced. That is a fair enough statement. I have added an external link to the the Old Blades' site for the past members, maybe you could be kind enough to delete my userfied committee list article.
I will now go and try and find reliable sources to back up my statements but I have a bit of a problem as most of the statements are from emails / talking to many many old boys of the club. I have also seen lots of statements made on other club pages (see: Leicester Rowing Club) that are un-referenced, are these legitimate because I know almost for a fact that that page is written in the same way as mine.

If you're sure you've copied all the content you need from the user sub-page, you can place {{db-u1}} and it'll be deleted. Regarding Leicester Rowing Club, that seems to have slipped through the net, but it's worth noting that it's not the same as Leicester rowing club (which was deleted). I've tagged the former. Marking it for deletion would probably be considered POINTy, and wouldn't actually benefit the encyclopedia. Basically, you should consider the bar for new articles to be much higher than for that one, and note that WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS wouldn't be a valid argument if the article you're creating were ever to be nominated for deletion. The statements you have via email and from talking to others won't be valid references by themselves, as they must be published elsewhere. While this can be on the club and/or old blades' site, it'd be far preferable to have independent coverage. This could perhaps be a university publication (not edited by students), local newspapers, Regatta magazine, etc. You could also try asking for further advice at WikiProject Rowing.-- Trevj (talk) 20:28, 26 November 2012 (UTC)Reply
On a rough estimate how many references would i need, say, per paragraph to make this article appropriate? could you give a good example of a page? As for DMURC it is a very young club with not alot of coverage or prestige, just a university club that has been operating for over 20 years; do you think i would have to shorten or get rid of some headings to make this viable? thanks again Joebrunton (talk) 14:32, 27 November 2012 (UTC)Reply

I wouldn't bother too much about removing content, unless that's the feedback you get from WP:AFC, where it could be submitted as your first article.
Some editors sometimes express a preference for, say, a minimum of 3 independent refs in order to establish notability - but it does depend on the subject matter and availability and depth of coverage within refs. You can have a look at archived articles for deletion to get an idea of how notability is handled in practice.
All material which could reasonably be contested should include a ref - and refs can easily be referred to multiple times within an article.
I'd suggest having a good read around the various policies and guidelines linked to in your welcome message before you do much more serious editing. -- Trevj (talk) 09:49, 28 November 2012 (UTC)Reply
