Time-saving links II

Sometimes you may be editing an article and want to link a plural to its singular form. For example, to link "Fred Foo was famous for his study of puddles" to puddle, you could link it like so: puddles. However, you can save time instead by writing puddles.

This also works with adjectives (for example, Japanese), regular verbs in present or past tense (for example, dances or danced) and any other suffixes or prefixes.

However, this method does not work with spelling changes, for example: tryied does not work; you have to enter tried. It also does not work with possessives, so you may want to use Fred Foo's to get Fred Foo's. Using Fred Foo's will look like Fred Foo's, i.e. the possessive suffix unlinked, in plain text, and black instead of blue.

Note: if a redirect exists from puddles to puddle you don't actually need to do any piping, it's fine to link puddles too.

A page you started (Anna Brown (designer)) has been reviewed! edit

Thanks for creating Anna Brown (designer).

I have just reviewed the page, as a part of our page curation process.

Thanks for your contribution! We generally discourage having external links in the body text of an article. If you could go through and replace those with wikilinks (moving the external links to the "External Links" section if appropriate), that would be super! For more, see our guideline on external links Wikipedia:External links. Happy editing!

Proposed deletion of Anna Brown (designer) edit

The article Anna Brown (designer) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

The coverage (references, external links, etc.) does not seem sufficient to justify this article passing Wikipedia:General notability guideline and the more detailed Wikipedia:Notability (biographies) requirement. Stub tags edit

Hallo Jo, it looks as if when you created Holly McQuillan you "substituted" the stub. Please don't do so, it should be left as it is. And please remember that all stub tags go at the end of the article, not the top - see WP:ORDER. Thanks. (You also forget to add a "References" section heading and the reflist). There's a lot to learn about editing Wikipedia, but it's an interesting journey! Happy Editing. PamD 11:06, 19 December 2018 (UTC)Reply

Hallo Jo, did you read this? I've just stub-sorted Catherine Slessor, and you'd done the same thing. Please don't substitute stub tags, and please put them in the right place, at the bottom of the article. Thanks. PamD 11:01, 3 February 2019 (UTC)Reply

Explanation and encouragement edit

Since it may seem like I 'have it in' for you, having after all nominated several of your articles for possible deletion, let me explain myself a bit in the spirit of WP:AGF. Wikipedia has a big problem with spam, much of it comes from undisclosed WP:PAID-for editors, and their common creation is WP:VANITY-type of entries that otherwise fail WP:NBIO. I DO NOT believe you are one of them; based on your pattern of contributions I am reasonably sure you are just trying to improve WP:SYSTEMICBIAS in an area of your interest (modern-day female New Zealanders). However, Wikipedia does not have a 'preference policy' for biographies from under-represented groups. Which means that while applaud you for taking an effort to improve our coverage in such a field, your articles are subject to the same scrutiny as others. And if I (or anyone else - we are all volunteers here) feel that they fail to meet our requirements, they will be subject to such deletions.

I do realize it can be stressful or even infuriating to have your volunteer work criticized and deleted. I've been there, I've seen this from the other end (as in, I have had several of my articles deleted too). Please do not take it personally. Your articles are interesting and valuable, and your desire to contribute to Wikipedia in your spare time is commendable. But do recall a proverb about good intentions.

You can always ask for your articles to be undeleted and drafitied so you can improve them in the months or years to come. But as I believe I have asked you before, please carefully review WP:NBIO and related policies. It is not like I enjoy nominating good faithed efforts for creation. If I may suggest, take a look at WP:Women in Red or such. They have lists of 100%-notable women who still are not on Wikipedia, lists often based on other encyclopedias and similar reference works. If you chose to write about them, your work will be almost certain to remain here. But writing about people who are still alive and in fact who are just starting their career is difficult, and bottom line is, most of such individuals are not important (notable) to be in encyclopedia - yet.

I hope this helps. Sincerely, --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 05:35, 4 March 2019 (UTC)Reply
