Dude, try to end up with only one article on your Emmerdale characters, please. I've redirected both Bernice Blackstock and Bernice Blackstock (Emmerdale character) since this is the caption of the infobox you put on the left side of at least two of those pages. Enjoy wikipediaing. Well, what am I saying. You are already. (I could never cope with Emmerdale, btw. THere you go. Standard form welcome follows. --Tagishsimon (talk)

Please stop making unneccessary redirects. The name of the Emmerdale characters are Martin and Kayleigh Crow, not Crowe or Gibbs. Trampikey (talk to me)(contribs) 18:17, 7 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Edit summaries edit

I have noted that you often edit without an edit summary. Please do your best to always fill in the summary field. This is considered an important guideline in Wikipedia. Even a short summary is better than no summary. An edit summary is even more important if you delete any text; otherwise, people may think you're being sneaky. Also, mentioning one change but not another one can be misleading to someone who finds the other one more important; add "and misc." to cover the other change(s). Thanks! Lily edit

Please do not redirect Lily (Emmerdale character) again. The reason I moved the page in the first place was because her name will not be Lily Birch, as Edna took her husband's name when she got married, therefore Edna's name is Birch, but her sister's won't be. Orphaned fair use image (Image:Edna Burch.jpg) edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Edna Burch.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently specifies that the image is unlicensed for use on Wikipedia and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Lily (Emmerdale) edit

I noted you directed Lily Lovett to Lily Butterfield. Although i am not yet dismissing that move, but i didn't notice you quote sources at to where you found that information (and reliable sources would be desirable). Information on the character currently is thin on the ground, but if you could quote your source, and for future changes similar too, it would be useful. Bungle44 18:54, 4 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

String of new articles edit

Hi. I see that you have created many new articles for minor characters of a TV show. As a general rule, we try to avoid that and per WP:FICT these are generally coallesced into a list-type article. Pascal.Tesson 15:24, 13 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Emmerdale Characters edit

Hi, Jameshdl, I notice you've been making lots of entries for Emmerdale characters recently, and I'm just wondering whether you plan to expand them any furthur than they are at the moment. The problem I can see is that they are all very short and stubby, i.e just having family relations and their names. Thus, I would politely suggest that it might be better to just expand the list of characters unless you have some actual content to add to the articles, or if you do plan to write more detailed character profiles to do these before posting any more. Thank you. Bob talk 15:40, 13 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Perhaps you could try adding Template:Emmerdale Character to the articles to give them more information... Trampikey (talk to me)(contribs) 16:18, 13 November 2006 (UTC)Reply
No, more content makes them more acceptable. Making millions of stubs and leaving them is unacceptable; making a few and expanding them to create decent articles is acceptable. And the template doesn't make it any more acceptable, it just makes the article more identifiable as an Emmerdale article... I'd advise you to stop creating these articles, however, as they really don't have any information in that isn't already in the cast list. Lucy Webb previously deleted by AfD process and will be speedily deleted edit

Emmerdale pictures edit

Trying to avoid getting into a revert war, but I disagree with the current image layout on the Emmerdale article, and have done for some time. If the layout I suggested doesn't suit your resolution for whatever reason, that's fine, but when you compare the article to other professional articles on wikipedia (or even to Coronation Street), the images on there are properly organised, and not just cramped together in a space on the right hand side. I might try a slightly different layout soon, but half the text for me is hidden, so it really isn't an option to keep it like that. Bungle44 14:15, 29 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Images: TV screenshots edit

Please only use the TV-screenshot tag for genuine screenshots. A screenshot is one frame from the 25 per second that makes up the moving image. It is not any image related to TV. Many of the images you have uploaded and mistagged as TV-screenshot are promotional images. I have spent a good amount of time tonight revising the images you uploaded in August and tagging most for deletion. The notice "Do not copy images from other websites without permission. They will be deleted." on the image upload page is not there for fun! We welcome your efforts to improve Wikipedia, but uploading such images not only wastes the time of admins, but also makes us vulnerable to legal action. Three articles is too much when they can be combined. I used the equivalent EastEnders article as a template, so removed the exact dates. Feel free to add them back, but I think it looks a bit clumsy like that. -Trampikey(talk)(contribs) 15:28, 30 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Please don't use the really bad tables that were on the previous pages. They look awful. Feel free to put the dates, just don't put them in those godawful tables, especially with hyphens at the end of the columns! -Trampikey(talk)(contribs) 17:19, 30 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Maybe you just don't see what I see? edit

Do you truely believe every picture on the article for Emmerdale's main storylines are better suited on the right? When I see it, it all seems congested when they are like how you ordered them, hence, the title for one of them has a massive gap before the text starts (which is due to the pictures). Taking the Coronation Street article for example, many pictures are on both the left and right sides to keep the article organised. It can't stay like it is in it's current state.. Emmerdale minor characters edit

I have noticed your disagreement with a couple of merger proposals on some of the soap's characters. I think the idea of the consolidated article was to list characters that appear on a recrurring basis too, not just those who aren't as important as the rest. I agree with you that several characters aren't really classified as "minor", but certainly would be classed as "recurring", and hence for that also don't support their claims for own articles.

Maybe a separate, but similar article by the lines of List of recurring Emmerdale characters might be a potential consideration? Bungle44 14:11, 3 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Né Discussion edit

If the surname was the Male's birth name, then It's fitting. This is reference to the Scott Windsor article. His parents Reg and Viv were married and he was born Dawson, before Vic adopted him and Scott took the Windsor name. I don't see why the article should differ to other ones with a similar status ala Corrie, EE, Neighbours, etc Conquistador2k6 8 June 2007 23:27 (UTC)

né is the masculine form. Check the article French phrases used by English speakers. Conquistador2k6 9 June 2007 22:20 (UTC)

Née or né means "born", so Scott was born Dawson, therefore, it's Scott Windsor né Dawson. Just like it's Simon Wicks né Beale, David Wicks né Beale and Bobby Beale né Hobbs - and Sharon Rickman née Stretton and Clare Bates née Tyler - who were both adopted. Né is the male version of née, in many French words, when the e is taken away from the end of a word, it turns from feminine to masculine. -Trampikey(talk)(contribs) 21:29, 9 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Tom King plot summary edit

I advise you to read What Wikipedia is not, and specifically note that Wikipedia is not a plot summary. Someone who is obsessed with the show might want to read 40K of badly written plot summary, but it doesn't belong here. I would like to direct you to the deletion debate Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Who Killed Tom King?, and note the significant dismay the community expressed (particularly those not heavily involved in Emmerdale stuff) of the extreme level of detail. Also, please see WP:FICTION: an encyclopedia article on a plot in a soap opera should be an out-of-universe treatment of the subject; plot summaries are not the point, they're just one aspect, and should not be belabored. Mangojuicetalk 23:27, 29 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Rather than create a new section, I'll amend the above. It seems evident that you wish to keep the article in its current state whilst others wish for some review of it's state. May I first thank you for not readding every picture (i.e: not directly reverting my change), although the ones you put back I feel are equally less-important as the ones you agreed need not be retained. Simply a picture of someone's facial expression (Len, for instance), can be summed up in a few words, which takes up less space and will load the page that little but more quicker. The same with Jamie's face - it doesn't add any more to the reader, who not forgetting is whom the article is supposed to be aimed at. Pictures of the actual events (ie: fights/punchups) have a purpose as to give an idea to what the atmosphere was like, but we really need to cut out the ones which wont be missed. Even after my edit I think there were too many pictures. I'd appreciate if you review the other pictures, or at least acknowledge mt stance. Cheers. Bungle44 10:39, 1 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

WP:OWN edit

I see, with some dismay, that you continue to exert ownership issues over Who Killed Tom King?. The images The JPS removed are not fine. Actually, not one of the images in the article are used justifiably within the policy, since they only contain boilerplate text in their Fair Use justifications, and no actual explanation specific to the individual images. Providing that is an absolute requirement. However, the fair use rationale must also be a good one, and you are going to have a very hard time justifying why we need to have so many copyrighted images on the page, considering the tiny amount of value each one adds. Most articles even on TV shows contain at most a couple of images. What you have been trying to do is to "storyboard" the plot summary, which is not an acceptable use of images at all. Mangojuicetalk 11:54, 7 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Your "strong objection" to minimizing the article is clear. However, Wikipedia policy is also very clear that the article is unacceptable as it is now. Policy trumps individual opinions, so the extreme plot summary will not be kept just because you prefer it that way. If you want the article to be a certain way, I'm quite happy to listen to your arguments as long as it's clear you understand Wikipedia policies and are on board with them. So let's try this again. The article now is overwhelmingly a plot summary, with very minimal time or text on anything else. Wikipedia policy says that is unacceptable. What do you think we should do? User:Durin/Fair use overuse explanation edit

Hello. This is a very clear explanation of non-free image overuse. Your recent edit summary made no sense in this respect. The difference between the images that were removed and the ones that remain is the quantity of those that remain! Wikipedia is not some cheap Geocities site with haphazard images dotted about for illiterates who can't go a paragraph without a pretty picture to look at. Non-free images are really enhance an understanding of the subject when words fall short. Most of the images are there merely for illustration, not to enhance understanding. I hope this is clear: I note other editors have attempted to explain this to you. The JPStalk to me 16:39, 7 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Replaceable fair use Image:Marlon_Dingle.png edit

Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:Marlon_Dingle.png. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that fair use images which could be replaced by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted 7 days after this notification, per our Fair Use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Videmus Omnia Talk 17:26, 16 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Orphaned non-free media (Image:PC Mike Swirling.png) edit

Thanks for uploading Image:PC Mike Swirling.png. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. Notability of Anita Turner edit

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Anita Turner, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Anita Turner seems to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Anita Turner, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. Breach of copyright on images edit

Jameshdl,

It has been brought to my attention that you have uploaded images to Wikipedia that are contained in my Emmerdale Behind the Scenes website www.emmerdale.me.uk and you have created an article "List of Emmerdale residences" using them.

Whilst some of the images were obtained by me from Yorkshire Television Limited (YTV) as screen shots and I acknowledged this on my site, there are two specific images which you have used without permission from myself.

The first one is the Home Farm (Creskeld Hall) photo showing a very old blue Vauxhall saloon car parked in front. That photo was taken by myself at the location (not a "screen grab") in the mid 1980s - maybe well before you were born!

The second one, of Smithy Cottage, is a cropped version of that on my site - the original of which shows a child sitting on the bench in front. The photographer (the child's father and a close relative of a TV Director on the show) sent the photo to me and gave me full permission to use it. That permission was NOT extended to you or anyone else.

Furthermore, I note that the text accompanying the "Home Farm fake frontage for Tom King's murder" photo has been lifted straight from my web page.

I would be grateful if you would provide full credits (with hyperlink click throughs) for my website, www.emmerdale.me.uk, on your Wikipedia page or alternatively remove the offending images and text.

It would be advisable to read the Wiki guidelines on copyright so you don't make this error again. Wikipedia is fun but you still have to abide by the laws out here in the real world.

By all means, visit my website and email me directly to discuss this matter.

Regards,

Jameshdl,

Thanks for modifying the page as per my request and so promptly. I have made additional minor edits with reference to copyright and / or source acknowledgements which I hope you will keep in place. If you object to these, I must respectfully request that you remove the images permanently. Even though one or two of the images are no longer used on my own site, that is where they were originally taken from and so the source links should remain.

Thanks for your attention to this matter.

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Edna Birch.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Edna Birch.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 21:34, 13 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Liam O'Brien (actor) edit

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Liam O'Brien (actor), suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. If you agree with the deletion of the article, and you are the only person who has made substantial edits to the page, please add {{db-author}} to the top of Liam O'Brien (actor). Orphaned non-free media (Image:Jackie Stiles.png) edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Jackie Stiles.png.

You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 12:08, 3 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Image copyright problem with Image:Bob and Errol.png edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Bob and Errol.png. You've indicated that the image is being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why it meets Wikipedia's requirements for such images. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for each article the image is used in.
  • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

Smallville edit

I noted that you used Krpytonsite when you were adding those episode titles. By default, Krpytonsite is not allowed as a source because it is a fansite and thus has no editorial oversight (as it required by WP:RS). The only time Kryptonsite is allowed is when they conduct first hand interviews. Their "spoiler" information is given to them by scoopers, which means we cannot use it. The same goes for TV.com, IMDb, or any other site that gets its information from registered users. MSN and TV Guide are the most reliable sources for episode listings.  BIGNOLE  (Contact me) 12:10, 10 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Proposed deletion of Jessica Haywood edit

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Jessica Haywood, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process because of the following concern:

Non notable "actress" (acted only between ages 0 and 4, so not much acting involved there). Has not received any media attention and even very little attention in general (only 38 distinct Google hits). Being a minor only notable for something she did passively and which did not get her muich atention, there is no reason to have this article.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because, even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Thanks for uploading File:Emmerdale village's main street.png. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information or which could be adequately covered with text alone. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Hammersoft (talk) 14:59, 30 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

ArbCom elections are now open! edit

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
