License tagging for Image:Antarleena.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Antarleena.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 17:06, 14 March 2007 (UTC)

Speedy deletion warning edit

A tag has been placed on Neelimay Neel, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself. If you plan to expand the article, you can request that administrators wait a while for you to add contextual material. To do this, affix the template {{hangon}} to the page and state your intention on the article's talk page. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Bengali literature edit

Hi, There is already an article List of Bengali language authors, which is more appropriate for any list of writers. Thanks. --Ragib 14:50, 16 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

I assume you are creating a list of articles that should be created. I suggest you keep the list in your talk page and gradually create the articles. The article Bengali literature is not the proper place to add those lists of authors. You should add new entries (not in the last name, first name form) in the list I mentioned above. In the mean time, please do not keep adding the huge and redundant list to the main Bengali literature article. I appreciate your work in the author biography pages, keep up your good work. Thank you. --Ragib 06:17, 21 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Banaphool edit

Hello Hrishikes. Thanks for your comments regarding the Banaphool article. To be perfectly honest, I simply found the original article entitled, somewhat redundantly, "Banaphool"- Balai Chand Mukhopadhyay, on a special page that lists all articles that are on no-one's watchlist (this is available to administrators since, if they are vandalised, they are unlikely to be noticed and thus left unrepaired). I know absolutely nothing about Banaphool or Bengali literature, but tried to find some sources and make it into a respectable stub based on that information. You, clearly, have a much greater understanding of the subject, so I am perfectly happy for you to make any improvements you can, including moving the article to a name better reflecting an more accurate transliteration. If you need any assistance in the technical aspects of this, do let me know, but otherwise be bold! Thanks again. Rockpocket 18:57, 19 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

While not always a verbatim copy of the sources, in many parts it was. I believe the article can be salvaged, but it must be rewritten entirely from scratch so as to avoid simply creating a derivative work copyright violation, such as a close paraphrase. While references are used as sources of the information in articles, they cannot be used as a source of the language in the article. VernoWhitney (talk) 01:53, 17 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

External links should not normally be used in the body of an article edit

When you add text to articles such as you did in July 2012 to Margaret Percy, do not add links to external sites in the body of the text. Instead place them in ref tags and make them into citations. For example as snippet of text you added to Margaret Percy is:

So replace it with

  • Dorothy (c. 1475 - 1527):[1] married
Notes

I see from the rest of your edit to that page that you are already familiar with how to create an inline citation using reference tags (as described in WP:CITE), but it also seems that you are not familiar with the subsection WP:CITEHOW of the CITE guideline that explains the information that needs to be provided for a full citation, or with WP:SOURCES that describes what is an acceptable source.

  • WP:EXTERNAL explains that external links such as "Dorothy" should not be placed in the body of the text.
  • WP:CITEHOW explains how to format a citation (which placing it directly in the text as you did means it is not adequate as a citation)
  • WP:SOURCE explains that Dorothy should not be used as a source for information in a Wikipedia article because it is not a reliable source (See also WP:RS). You can use that rootsweb page and pages from similar sites if they in turn cites a reliable source for the information. In which case cite both in the Wikipedia citation as described in WP:SAYWHEREYOUREADIT. If you are not sure if a source is reliable you can always ask at WP:RS/N.

Please go through you edits and fix any text where you have added external links to the body of an article. -- PBS (talk) 13:10, 3 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

10k India works on Wikisource edit

Hrishikes I see that you are not that active on Wikisource as you used to be and that is a pity as you are the most active user developing the India collection there. There is this Wikipedia:WikiProject India/Condensed proposed roadmap for Wikimedia work in India whose one aim was to develop the Wikisource infrastructure for content absorption there.

See for example this catalog of almost 10k works. Proofreading 10k works should take a lifetime of effort but setting up the infrastructure can be done in few months. Also ping Shyamal, Sitush if you guys want to start the biographies of the authors in Wikipedia as a complement to the Wikisource infrastructure. Solomon7968 14:29, 15 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
