Help me!

edit

Please help me with... I am wanting to know the difference between creating the userpage and an actual article? I have added to my userpage which I thought would pop up on search in wiki when people searched but I see that is not true. Can you please explain or lead me to where I can learn the difference. Thank youHollywodDJ (talk) 00:41, 9 July 2020 (UTC) HollywodDJ (talk) 00:41, 9 July 2020 (UTC)Reply

User pages are not generally indexed by search engines. A user page is a place where you can say a few things about yourself and your Wikipedia editing activities but it is definitely not to be used as an advertisement for yourself, as your current user page appears to be. Please see user page for more about the policies that apply to user pages.
As for writing a Wikipedia article about yourself, that's strongly discouraged. Please see AUTOBIOGRAPHY. — jmcgnh(talk) (contribs) 01:28, 9 July 2020 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of User:HollywodDJ

edit

A tag has been placed on User:HollywodDJ requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section U5 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to consist of writings, information, discussions, and/or activities not closely related to Wikipedia's goals. If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. — jmcgnh(talk) (contribs) 01:25, 9 July 2020 (UTC)Reply

Contested deletion

edit

This page should not be speedily deleted because... (I am new to this site and want to follow the rules. I have deleted the information put into the userpage to try and start over in a proper, rule-abiding manner. Please give me a second chance. Also, I am not writing about myself as I am creating for someone else. Thank you for your consideration.HollywodDJ (talk) 01:46, 9 July 2020 (UTC)) --HollywodDJ (talk) 01:46, 9 July 2020 (UTC)Reply

So you, the Wikipedia editor using the username HollywoodDJ, are not the person using the name HollywoodDJ as a stage name? In that case, you're most likely violating the username policy with respect to impersonation. If you believe that your username does not violate our policy, please leave a note here explaining why. As an alternative, you may ask for a change of username by completing the form at Special:GlobalRenameRequest, or you may simply create a new account for editing, abandoning this one. — jmcgnh(talk) (contribs) 08:29, 9 July 2020 (UTC)Reply
I should add that it's a fairly common newbie mistake to sign up with a username that is actually the name of the article they were thinking of creating. We see it often but the correction is really simple: just create a new account with a name of your own and use that instead of the mistaken one you made when you first signed up. — jmcgnh(talk) (contribs) 08:33, 9 July 2020 (UTC)Reply
