Speedy deletion nomination of User:HistoryRecorder/sandbox

edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on User:HistoryRecorder/sandbox, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, group, product, service, person, or point of view and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. Hi, thanks for email. If you post an article it will be assessed as it stands. If you don't want that to happen, you should write it as a draft. User pages are for you to write about your activities on Wikipedia, and are not for promotion. I deleted your article because

  • it did not provide independent verifiable sources to enable us to verify the facts. Sources that are not acceptable include those linked to the school, press releases, YouTube, IMDB, social media and other sites that can be self-edited, blogs, websites of unknown or non-reliable provenance, and sites that are just reporting what the school claims or interviewing its management. Your text was entirely unreferenced (referring to the school website with no link is pointless), and the only links were to two school internal documents. Note that references should be in-line so we can tell what fact each is supporting, and should not be bare urls.
  • Your text, apart from the history, is mainly non-encyclopaedic. Much of it consists of internal matters such as timetables and school rules, which are of no conceivable interest to anyone else. You give the number of students but not staff, and I've no idea what subjects are taught.
  • it was written in a promotional tone. Articles must be neutral and encyclopaedic. Examples of unsourced claims presented as fact include: The school is proud of its record... It is a record that the school community intends to maintain... Our primary aim is to encourage each student... to be a self-confident, inquiring, tolerant, positive young man, a well rounded character with an independent mind, an individual who respects the difference of others. By the time he leaves the school, we want each boy to have that true sense of self-worth which will enable him to stand for himself and for a purpose greater than himself and, in doing so be of value to society...— and so on, pure spam, you haven't even bothered to change from "Our" to third person.
  • the article was a copyright violation of the school website. Copyrighted text is not allowed in Wikipedia, as outlined in this policy. That applies even to pages created by you or your organisation, unless they state clearly and explicitly that the text is public domain. The copied site was marked © 2016 The Green CBS Secondary School, Tralee. All rights reserved.. We require that text posted here can be used, modified and distributed for any purpose, including commercial but there is no indication that the copied site allows free use. Text is considered to be copyright unless explicitly stated otherwise. There are ways to donate copyrighted text to Wikipedia, as described here; please note that simply asserting on the talk page that you are the owner of the copyright, or you have permission to use the text, isn't sufficient. But in any case the copyrighted text is far too promotional to be useful for Wikipedia's purposes, so there would not be any point in your jumping through all the hoops that are required.

We often restore deleted text on request, but for legal reasons we don't do so for copyright violations. In any case, there was little factual content in your draft, and a great deal of irrelevant material and spam, so better to start from scratch.

Before attempting to write an article again, please make sure that you can find independent third party sources. Also read Your first article.

Secondary schools are notable by definition, which helps you, but you have to write in your own words and keep it relevant to a wider readership than the school, with proper references. Have a look at Monmouth School. That's an official Good Article, so you don't need anything like that amount of detail, just to give you an idea of what's relevant, layout and referencing

Conflict of interest editing

edit

  Hello, HistoryRecorder. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about in the page St Mary's CBS (The Green), you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a COI may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

  • avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, company, organization or competitors;
  • propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (see the {{request edit}} template);
  • disclose your COI when discussing affected articles (see WP:DISCLOSE);
  • avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see WP:SPAM);
  • do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation (see WP:PAID).

Also please note that editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. Melcous (talk) 22:16, 25 June 2018 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of Draft:CBS Primary, Tralee

edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Draft:CBS Primary, Tralee requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be an unambiguous copyright infringement. This page appears to be a direct copy from http://www.cbsprimarytralee.com/page.asp?id=82. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.

• Gene93k (talk) 01:50, 29 June 2018 (UTC)Reply

Please do not mark your edits as "minor" unless they meet the criteria

edit

  Thank you for your contributions. Please mark your edits, such as your recent edits to St Mary's CBS (The Green), as "minor" only if they are minor edits. In accordance with Help:Minor edit, a minor edit is one that the editor believes requires no review and could never be the subject of a dispute. Minor edits consist of things such as typographical corrections, formatting changes or rearrangement of text without modification of content. Additionally, the reversion of clear-cut vandalism and test edits may be labeled "minor". Thank you. Melcous (talk) 02:39, 6 July 2018 (UTC)Reply

This article appears to contain work copied from https://www.pressreader.com/ireland/the-kerryman-tralee-edition/20170927/283386242086541, and therefore to constitute a violation of Wikipedia's copyright policies. The copyrighted text has been or will soon be deleted. While we appreciate contributions, we must require all contributors to understand and comply with our copyright policy. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously, and persistent violators are liable to be blocked from editing.

If you believe that the article is not a copyright violation, or if you have permission from the copyright holder to release the content freely under license allowed by Wikipedia, then you should do one of the following:

It may also be necessary for the text be modified to have an encyclopedic tone and to follow Wikipedia article layout. For more information on Wikipedia's policies, see Wikipedia's policies and guidelines.

If you would like to begin working on a new version of the article you may do so at this temporary page. Leave a note at Talk:St Mary's CBS (The Green) saying you have done so and an administrator will move the new article into place once the issue is resolved.

Proposed deletion of Presentation Monastery N.S., Killarney

edit

Hello, HistoryRecorder. I wanted to let you know that I’m proposing an article that you started, Presentation Monastery N.S., Killarney, for deletion because I don't think it meets our criteria for inclusion. If you don't want the article deleted:

  1. edit the page
  2. remove the text that looks like this: {{proposed deletion/dated...}}
  3. save the page

Also, be sure to explain why you think the article should be kept in your edit summary or on the article's talk page. If you don't do so, it may be deleted later anyway.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions.
