Administrators' newsletter – September 2023

News and updates for administrators from the past month (August 2023).

  Guideline and policy news

  • Following an RfC, TFAs will be automatically semi-protected the day before it is on the main page and through the day after.
  • A discussion at WP:VPP about revision deletion and oversight for dead names found that [s]ysops can choose to use revdel if, in their view, it's the right tool for this situation, and they need not default to oversight. But oversight could well be right where there's a particularly high risk to the person. Use your judgment.

  Technical news

  Arbitration

  • The SmallCat dispute case has closed. As part of the final decision, editors participating in XfD have been reminded to be careful about forming local consensus which may or may not reflect the broader community consensus. Regular closers of XfD forums were also encouraged to note when broader community discussion, or changes to policies and guidelines, would be helpful.

WikiCup 2023 September newsletter

The fourth round of the competition has finished, with anyone scoring less than 673 points being eliminated. It was a high scoring round with all but one of the contestants who progressed to the final having achieved an FA during the round. The highest scorers were

  •   Epicgenius, with 2173 points topping the scores, gained mainly from a featured article, 38 good articles and 9 DYKs. He was followed by
  •   Sammi Brie, with 1575 points, gained mainly from a featured article, 28 good articles and 50 good article reviews. Close behind was
  •   Thebiguglyalien, with 1535 points mainly gained from a featured article, 15 good articles, 26 good article reviews and lots of bonus points.

Between them during round 4, contestants achieved 12 featured articles, 3 featured lists, 3 featured pictures, 126 good articles, 46 DYK entries, 14 ITN entries, 67 featured article candidate reviews and 147 good article reviews. Congratulations to our eight finalists and all who participated! It was a generally high-scoring and productive round and I think we can expect a highly competitive finish to the competition.

Remember that any content promoted after the end of round 4 but before the start of round 5 can be claimed in round 5. Remember too that you must claim your points within 10 days of "earning" them and within 24 hours of the end of the final. If you are concerned that your nomination will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. It would be helpful if this list could be cleared of any items no longer relevant. If you want to help out with the WikiCup, please do your bit to keep down the review backlogs! Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove your name from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send.

I will be standing down as a judge after the end of the contest. I think the Cup encourages productive editors to improve their contributions to Wikipedia and I hope that someone else will step up to take over the running of the Cup. Sturmvogel 66 (talk), and Cwmhiraeth (talk)

Sockpuppet

Hi. Is there any chance you can do something about Coola 1028? This user is a sockpuppet of Cool a123, and they have persistently been making new accounts (here's a list of some their previous accounts) or using IP's for the last 2+ years. Thank you. Yowashi (talk) 19:47, 22 September 2023 (UTC)

Yowashi Ya, I'll block them though next time I recommend going to an admin whose already been involved with them (such as zzuuzz or discospinster). HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 21:59, 22 September 2023 (UTC)

X-Dinero, rock band

Hello, the page I am trying to edit is ours. X-Dinero is the rock band I work with, and I am attempting to update the information with accurate data because the existing information is incorrect. I don't quite understand how to do it, as all the modifications in English are being rejected. This was the text I modified.

X-Dinero

X-Dinero is a Peruvian Rock-SKA band hailing from Arequipa, formed in 1997 following the disbandment of the progressive rock group Baretto. From their inception, the band has been on a mission to craft original and authentic music while navigating the challenges of the music industry.

History

Right after their formation, X-Dinero wasted no time recording their debut album, aptly titled "TRISTE REALIDAD" (Sad Reality), which starkly illustrates the challenges of making music for commercial gain. In a twist of fate, the album defied expectations and became a resounding success, earning iconic status among the rock enthusiasts of southern Peru. Songs like "Lucho," "Pérez," "Maneras," "Ella besa así," "Abriré tu corazón," "Velero," and "Calatito" not only dominated music charts but also found a home on countless radio stations.

This meteoric success earned them invitations to a slew of rock festivals across Peru, including the prestigious International Cusqueña Beer Festival, Feria del Hogar, and various radio festivals in Lima and the southern region. The band embarked on extensive nationwide tours, and their rising star eventually caught the attention of the IEMPSA record label, which led to the recording of their second album, "POR LAS HUEVAS" (For the Sake of It). The album featured standout tracks like "Mamá no me quiero casar," "Pincelada," "Dame tu amor," "Photo vegetal," and "Corazón de Lata," cementing X-Dinero's status as a formidable Peruvian band.

Their third album, "TOCAR FONDO Y BRILLAR" (Hit Bottom and Shine), recorded independently in Lima in 2010 and meticulously mixed and mastered in Colombia, became a musical touchstone across Peru. Tracks like "El ultimo huayno," "París," "La Suegra," and "Tocar fondo y brillar" morphed into unforgettable anthems, securing X-Dinero's place on the airwaves not only in their homeland but also in neighboring countries like Chile, Argentina, and Bolivia.

With three successful albums under their belt, X-Dinero proved to be a versatile force in popular music, seamlessly traversing genres like rock, reggae, and ska while offering danceable and irreverent tunes designed for pure enjoyment.

International Stint

In November and December of 2019, X-Dinero embarked on an international tour in Mexico, playing thirteen gigs across different states. This historic feat marked a significant milestone for a Peruvian band.

Upcoming Release

This year, the band is gearing up for the release of their fourth album, "El Endeudado" (The Indebted), featuring 13 tracks recorded in Arequipa. The album was mixed and mastered in Argentina and promises to deliver exciting surprises. It is set to launch from Mexico with the participation of guest musicians.

Contributions to Popular Culture

X-Dinero's songs have made their mark in popular culture, with their tracks featured in the soundtracks of two highly acclaimed Peruvian comedy films: "Macho Peruano que se Respeta" and "Hasta que la suegra nos separe."

Influences and Comparisons

X-Dinero's fusion of rock, reggae, and ska draws inspiration from a rich tradition of bands that have pioneered similar sounds. Comparable to legendary groups like Manu Chao, Los Fabulosos Cadillacs, and Gondwana, X-Dinero shines as a testament to the enduring appeal of Latin American ska and reggae fusion.

And this is the text in spanish:

X-Dinero

(talk page stalker) You vastly misunderstand the purpose of Wikipedia. We have standards here. I'm surprised it clears our our notability standards in the first place, and it is strongly discouraged to edit subjects you are connected to. This is to prevent possible issues with neutrality. Furthermore, you are required for most material to cite external reliable sources to any content you add to Wikipedia. We are unable to take your word for it. dannymusiceditor oops 23:52, 26 September 2023 (UTC)
I do not understand your surprise, in the message that YOU send me they do not indicate that I break any rule, in the message it tells me that, "one or more of your recent additions was removed because it appeared to be in a language other than English. We can only accept English-language text on this version of Wikipedia", that is why my response was that my text was sent in English, I am sorry that you cannot understand that or that not all the observations were sent to me, the article is a biography totally neutral Miguelipe (talk) 00:00, 27 September 2023 (UTC)
We have a separate-language server for Wikipedia in Spanish, and were the sourcing issue to be resolved, it could be considered there. dannymusiceditor oops 00:03, 27 September 2023 (UTC)
