Ciid edit

Two things. First, is this the second time you lose your password? Because I assume you're also User:Heesxiisoleh. Maybe enable emails. Second, I'm having some problems with this article. Timothy earlier alerted you to WP:SYNTH, but I can't even get to that point here, since I'm dealing with more elementary problems. One is the writing, where sometimes things are hard to follow and put together without apparently logical connection (how do we go from a historian who talks about syrup to a modern geographic location in the same sentence?). But second is how you reference these things. What is "Suugaanta Nabadda Iyo Colaadda, Rashiid Sheekh Cabdillaahi Gadhweyne, Axmed Aw Geeddi, Ismaciil Aw Aadan · 2009"? You don't use a citation template, and this is obviously not in English, so for editors like me (and there's a ton of them) it is just totally unclear which parts here are names of authors, editors, titles, etc. Unless you follow a specific citation format (MLA, APA, whatever), it is just not clear what's what. A citation template (see Template:cite book) will at least alleviate that problem. And even when you do cite something published in English, like note 3, it's unclear: "Journal of the Anglo-Somali Society - Issues 30-33, 2001 - PAGE 18" is just not helpful (worse, what it suggests is that you are using Google snippets, and that's not good). It's an article in a peer-reviewed journal; it needs author, title, name of journal, year, volume and issue, page numbers--and a URL, if possible.

For this citation that is problematic. Journal of the Anglo-Somali Society, as it turns out, is published by the Anglo-Somali website. Interesting stuff! My academic library does not subscribe to it. The society has a number of issues available as PDFs (http://anglosomalisociety.org.uk/Contents-of-Recent-Journals.php), but unfortunately not the 2001 issue, so I'm going to assume that you either have better access to a better library, or that you have the journal. Either way, you should have all the information to cite it correctly, and Template:cite journal is the way to go. If that seems like a lot of work--well, that's what it takes.

Also, you can't say "A 2001 Journal from Indiana University describes Ciid"--it's an author who writes an article that's published in a journal that describes something as something. And, while we're on the topic of writing--you have a lead that is totally taken up by geography--why? Surely there are more exciting things to report in a summary of the main article, which is what the lead should be. Good luck. Drmies (talk) 02:10, 26 May 2021 (UTC)Reply

I am heesxiisleh; didn't lose password, but am in a different location. I'll try look at the citation style guideline. Heesxiisolehh (talk) 02:38, 26 May 2021 (UTC)Reply

The description needs a page number edit

I look forward to your description on Wikipedia. You mention in a series of edits on June 19, 2021,

According to author Said Samatar, the terms ''Garad'' and ''sultan'' are interchangeable, especially with regards to the Dhulbahante clan, where the usage of ''Garad'' is near ubiquitous.<ref name=oral/>

but I could not find where in the book it is mentioned. In order to facilitate verification, it is recommended to write the number of pages when describing information referenced from the book. Template:Rp is useful for that. For example, if it is written on page 123, you can write {{Rp|123}}.

According to author Said Samatar, the terms Garad and sultan are interchangeable, especially with regards to the Dhulbahante clan, where the usage of Garad is near ubiquitous.<ref name=oral/>{{Rp|123}}

The following will be displayed:

According to author Said Samatar, the terms Garad and sultan are interchangeable, especially with regards to the Dhulbahante clan, where the usage of Garad is near ubiquitous.[1]: 123

I ask for your cooperation.--Freetrashbox (talk) 10:33, 6 November 2021 (UTC)Reply

Year of publication edit

I saw your edit in Cayn. "A General Survey of the Somaliland Protectorate 1944-1950" was published in 1951. Your description has the word "1960" in it, so it needs to be corrected.--Freetrashbox (talk) 11:26, 11 November 2021 (UTC)Reply

Reliable sources edit

I saw your edit in Las Anod. It is not advisable to use facebook as a source for Wikipedia. Please see WP:UGC. Websites whose content is largely user-generated is generally unacceptable. For the same reason, YouTube cannot be used as a source for Wikipedia. Especially since the YouTube used is not in English, it is difficult to verify. See WP:RSUE.--Freetrashbox (talk) 12:24, 2 December 2021 (UTC)Reply

Please write the page number in detail edit

I saw your edit in Las Anod. Thank you for writing down the page numbers. However, please write the page numbers you refer to in detail. The page you cited from Samatar seems to span multiple places, not just the page you indicated. Many Wikipedians order copies of books from the library to verify articles. If all the page numbers are not listed at that time, the information you indicated will not be included in the copy the Wikipedian ordered, which can cause problems.--Freetrashbox (talk) 11:14, 3 December 2021 (UTC)Reply

List of states with limited recognition edit

The edit summary of my revert of your edit at List of states with limited recognition only expressed why the image change should be reverted, but the changes to the article body I am less certain of. Nevermind the fact that the "intra-46th meridian east" territory might not be geographically considered part of Somaliland, but is there a reason to separate the two if the polities of British Somaliland and the State of Somaliland encompassed the territory? CentreLeftRight 21:06, 10 February 2022 (UTC)Reply

I largely don't edit contemporary politics topics, but user Freetrashbox recently created HBM-SSC which is congruous with that territory, so you may ask them. Heesxiisolehh (talk) 06:09, 11 February 2022 (UTC)Reply

Your uploaded figure edit

I saw your edit in commons:File:Badweyn Said Dhulbahante burial site border, or Badweyn line, the western boundary demarcation of non-signatory tribes and Darawiish chieftainship-sultanate.jpg. Some characters in this image appear to have a different resolution from the rest of the image. For examples, "British Somali Coast Protectorate", "Non-signatory Dervish", "Buuhoodle". Did you copy this image directly from "the Memoirs of Lord Ismay"?--Freetrashbox (talk) 04:15, 22 February 2022 (UTC)Reply

Except for where the resolution is altered is directly from Ismay's page, yes. The different resolution insertion was an attempt at simplifying for novice lurkers. But I prefer content pertaining a different wikiproject is discussed there. Heesxiisolehh (talk) 12:08, 22 February 2022 (UTC)Reply
Thank you for the reply. Please note that altering the figures may lead to misunderstandings, so it is preferable to submit them in their original form. Difficult-to-understand sections can be explained in the figure captions.--Freetrashbox (talk) 12:23, 22 February 2022 (UTC)Reply
Your comment was taken on board. Heesxiisolehh (talk) 21:47, 22 February 2022 (UTC)Reply
Thank you. If it is not updated to the original figure, I will remove this figure and caption from the English Wikipedia articles.--Freetrashbox (talk) 03:47, 23 February 2022 (UTC)Reply
