Pac-Man

Turns out this week's been busier than usual. I've started a draft in my sandbox at User:Nomader/Sandbox, but I probably won't have the shells for all the games filled out until next week. Nomader (Talk) 22:11, 24 January 2011 (UTC)

Just a side note-- I've started the draft in my sandbox, but if we keep working on it there then we'll have to do some sort of crazy history merge. Should I create a new sub-page and move the list now before it gets more complicated? Usually I create a specific sub-page for these kind of user space drafts, don't know why I didn't for this one. Nomader (Talk) 08:16, 3 February 2011 (UTC)

It only took me a week but I've moved the list that we've started to the series article and then I moved it to List of Pac-Man video games. We may want to expand the scope a bit to "games" so we can include the pinball games in the series, or "media" so we can include the television shows, but we should start by trying to finish up the video game list first. I've also added in all the home console and portable releases that were in Template:Pac-Man series. Nomader (Talk) 01:27, 8 February 2011 (UTC)

Well at least we'd know that Pac-Man Fever would be there. What a fantastic song. Anyways, I put up some refs for the original Pac-Man game, but should I put in references for "re-releases" if it was released as a collection? I'm missing some more solo releases too, I remember it being released for iOS (Apple) awhile back or for the iPod or something. Good work so far. Nomader (Talk) 20:56, 9 February 2011 (UTC)

Hey Guy, long time no see-- just an fyi, I'll have a week off before I start work coming up on Saturday, so I'll probably start working on sourcing the Pac-Man list again. Just a heads up. Nomader (Talk) 00:34, 21 June 2011 (UTC)

Maniac Mansion

Per this, I thought I'd ask if you wanted to collaborate on the article. As I said on that page, my experience with the game is limited; however, I'd be very interested in working on Development and Reception sections. If it's possible for you to fit it into your schedule, I bet we could do some very nice work. JimmyBlackwing (talk) 00:01, 29 January 2011 (UTC)

  • The article's coming along nicely. If we keep up this pace, FAC should be within reach before long. Maniac Mansion will go a long way towards filling in our adventure game coverage; in terms of historical importance, it's up there with Colossal Cave, Zork, Mystery House, King's Quest I, The Secret of Monkey Island, Myst and Shenmue. Only one of which is either Good or Featured, I might add. JimmyBlackwing (talk) 14:14, 5 February 2011 (UTC)

Day of the Tentacle

Since you're taking charge of Development, I thought I'd drop you this link. That issue contains a short feature about the game on page 44. The CGW Museum just started putting up post-1992 issues this year; I've already benefited greatly from them. JimmyBlackwing (talk) 20:30, 22 February 2011 (UTC)

  • I found this, too. It would be best to get the original Retro Gamer article, however. JimmyBlackwing (talk) 01:21, 25 February 2011 (UTC)

Re: Kingdom Hearts

Some online interviews I have seen are,

  • "Kingdom Hearts II's Tetsuya Nomura Q & A". GameSpot. October 10, 2003. Retrieved August 1, 2010.,
  • Kevin Gifford (July 8, 2009). "Tetsuya Nomura Discusses Kingdom Hearts' Past, Present". 1UP.com. Retrieved November 3, 2009.
  • Gantayat, Anoop (May 4, 2005). "Tetsuya Nomura on Everything". IGN. Retrieved September 19, 2010.

Sora's creation appears to be very suitable for the first Kingdom Hearts game's article. I'm pretty some of these sites have also made other interviews by these sites, while scripts from the Ultimania guidebooks are available on many sites. Regards.Tintor2 (talk) 00:23, 23 February 2011 (UTC)

Pong edits

The timeline is screwy now, his visit to the caravan was before the assignment of the Pong project. Likewise, the claim of seeing a tennis game in the 60's is a much more recent claim (never before stated, including in court testimony, which leads one to believe it's more of a strategic claim) and directly contradicts both Ted Dabney's and Al Alcorn's statements (including Al's interview in RetroGamer a few months ago) that it came from the Magnavox Odyssey. The current writing gives it way to much weight in light of that. --Marty Goldberg (talk) 21:03, 23 February 2011 (UTC)

I wasn't saying to omit it, rather it needs to be presented in a neutral manner rather than defacto history. The Alcorn interview already being used in the article states what I was saying as well: "And Nolan got the idea from that, but it's like the movie The Producers, because he figured we'd rip off the idea for a game, but so what? It's no good, we're not going to sell it, we'll throw it away, so what harm is there, right? So, it didn't work out that way… they sent us a letter. " There's also the Ted Dabney podcast interview. --Marty Goldberg (talk) 21:13, 23 February 2011 (UTC)

Your Majesty, Guyinblack25, I am pleased to award this special edition triple crown to WikiProject Video games and its hardworking volunteers. – SMasters (talk) 09:16, 4 March 2011 (UTC)

Thank you for all your hard work. May you wear the crowns well, and may the gamepad crown motivate you to press on with more outstanding articles. – SMasters (talk) 09:16, 4 March 2011 (UTC)

Re:Triple crown

Am I not nominated? Well, if you wouldn't mind, that be great. I don't tend to like nominating myself for things in this regard. -- Sabre (talk) 13:10, 4 March 2011 (UTC)

Impact of the 2011 Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami on the video game industry

On a related note, could you be a dear if you ever get the opportunity and give Controversy over the usage of Manchester Cathedral in Resistance: Fall of Man a copy edit? A-class friendly tit-for-tat request

Since I want to get the assement for Dragon Warrior done soon, like in a week or 2, I'm offering to do the 2nd reviewer for Maniac Mansion if you and the others working on the article will do the same for me. I want it done within 2 weeks because otherwise it'll be too late for what I'm brining it up for.Jinnai 18:14, 28 March 2011 (UTC)

  • Hey, GiB. I might have time to do this. Go ahead and start your review; I'll allocate time for mine, and follow up yours after you've finished. Dragon Warrior is a favorite of mine, so it'll be fun to help. I had to turn Jinnai down on a copyediting request for it a few weeks ago, but an A-Class review won't take nearly as long. JimmyBlackwing (talk) 21:05, 28 March 2011 (UTC)

Regarding your edit to Template:Space Invaders

Hello. I see that you have reverted my edits in Template:Space Invaders, saying "there are too many such games". Well, I need a list of all of those that have a corresponding article on Wikipedia. Can you help? Thanks in advance. Fleet Command (talk) 08:22, 30 March 2011 (UTC)

Thanks. Now I know what I am looking for... or, rather, was looking for. I was looking for Shoot 'Em Up games — Scrolling Shooters. I knew what I was looking for but I had a hard time forming it into words, let alone search terms for search engine. (I also never imagined that there are 397 articles on scrolling shooter titles in Wikipedia.) I'm not planning to do anything further in this regard. Again, thanks. Super Mario 64 camera image

Do you think it might be better to use an animated gif to show a smoother depiction of the camera's movement? - The New Age Retro Hippie used Ruler! Now, he can figure out the length of things easily. 00:10, 31 March 2011 (UTC)

Well, I could definitely see the image used in gameplay to be replaced with a gif of that scene as someone plays through that portion. The image is used, after all, for a number of different reasons, and camera movement could be one of them. - The New Age Retro Hippie used Ruler! Need help from a problem that seems like it will never end

I've had a number of problems with a certain editor over the articles DJMax....i sense strong bias from this editor as several times mentions POV of a fan or the creators themselves to include specific information that could very well not be important. Despite, that we've had a few problems. i hate looking for specific editors, but my attempts in the wikiproject have failed and currently.

Currently discussion is about the FC image in DJMax Portable: Black Square. I previously asked Jinnai but seems to be indecisive as he believes it more of a case by case point. I personally believe there's not much meriting an image of the contents of the special edition (as it doesn't have anything different from the original version other than secondary media). Jinnai agrees to a degree, but really isn't giving an opinion we can work on. Discussion is in Jinnai's talk page, it would be great if you could help me out with this problem just by putting in your two cents on it.Bread Ninja (talk) 16:40, 4 April 2011 (UTC)

You might want to weigh in. Jinnai had concerns about the pop culture guidelines violating WP:TRIVIA and did a WP bold delete. I explained it was precisely WP:TRIVIA that the guidelines were crafted around and in fact it is not in violation and pointed him to the space invaders article for the type of pop culture section the guidelines promote. You were involved in the original crafting (can't remember everyone else that was and can't remember when the group effort was on the main group discussion page) so I thought you could explain things as well. If you remember anyone else involved, feel free to invite them as well. --Marty Goldberg (talk) 16:59, 7 April 2011 (UTC)

I dealt with the issues for Castle Crushers.

Just letting you know. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Takeo (talkcontribs) 21:34, 7 April 2011 (UTC)

Image strengthening

I've found that a lot of good articles and probably a lot of featured articles (I haven't check them yet) are abusing the use of copyrighted images on Wikipedia (for example, I've seen several articles that use three images to visualize content in the article even though the first image demonstrates everything that the other two images are trying to do). Would you be interested in helping fix this problem? - The New Age Retro Hippie used Ruler! Now, he can figure out the length of things easily. 18:39, 22 April 2011 (UTC)

Well, I'm not necessarily looking for people to help just wipe away half of the images; I mean, if an article has a good reason, like in Team Fortress 2, I'm all for using numerous images. But in most cases, the problem with images is a combination of people not giving a good reason for their inclusion and people including an image if only because it makes the article look better (using Metal Gear Solid as an example, which used eight images at one point which had very poor rationales). So just making it clear that I have no intention of strip mining the articles of images, I'm merely removing what's clearly extra. - The New Age Retro Hippie used Ruler! Lara Croft FAC

Sorry it got archived; I do think there were some issues. If you'd like to take another crack at it I'd be happy to work on it with you till it gets to where I feel I could support it at FAC -- mostly working on the reception section and a bit of a copyedit, and I think it would be there. I might not be very quick about it but am happy to work on it if you like. Let me know. Mike Christie (talk - contribs - library) 02:01, 26 April 2011 (UTC)

Atari mergers question

You might want to weigh in with your neutral opinion here as well, I believe you involved in the consensus to split way back when? I just don't see a strong rationale for merging again, other than unfamiliarity with the brand and mistaking it for a continuous entity. --Marty Goldberg (talk) 03:21, 30 April 2011 (UTC)

It's entirely up to you, as it looks like another consensus was formed and and understanding reached. If you still want to get your opinion on record, go ahead and weigh in. --Marty Goldberg (talk) 20:27, 2 May 2011 (UTC)
