Adding to your "How to write a good video game article"

Hi Guyinblack25, I have added a rough version of an "adding images" section to your sandbox. I believe that should help most new editors (and even more experienced ones) to avoid having their images deleted. Please take a look through and edit it to fit in with your style (or remove or change it if it is out-of-place). Toodles! Jappalang (talk) 02:52, 1 April 2008 (UTC)

Hey. I just added a bit about the clean-up to the talk page. I actually meant to do so when I put the tag up, but it must have slipped my mind. The problems with disorganization in the critical reception sections of video game articles are pretty common, it seems. Pele Merengue (talk) 07:29, 3 April 2008 (UTC)

StarCraft: Ghost rewrite

Would you mind taking a look at User:S@bre/StarCraft: Ghost, and give me some feedback on it? I've got most of the text in-place, except for the development section. Don't worry about the external links sitting in the references section, they're for my construction benefit only, and will be gone when the article is moved into mainspace. -- Sabre (talk) 15:17, 15 April 2008 (UTC)

List of rosters in the SmackDown series article

Hey. As per our discussion on the WP:VG talk page, I've worked up a (very) rough draft of the article we discussed creating. User:McJeff/List_of_characters_in_the_Smackdown_series. I know it's not the greatest, but I'm having to learn wiki coding for tables as I go along. At any rate, if you'd like to offer suggestions, jump in and help, link up some other people who you think would be interested in helping, or any of the above, that'd be great. Sora's image on Kingdom Hearts articles.

This Kingrock had been adding an image of Sora on the Kingdom Hearts articles. As I understand it, there is a fair-use concern over such images in the related articles, and such has been the one you've been avoiding in your efforts to make those impressive Kingdom Hearts articles. As such, any edit he has done I have reverted back. Just a heads up from a fellow editor. Thank you. — Blue 04:01, 16 April 2008 (UTC)

Sorry about this

I know that I said that I'd look over the guide today and give feedback, but I'm afraid I just got a bit tied-up. What can I say—a day in the life of a teenage Wikipedian? I've had to go back to school on my break to do coursework, and then I had to sleep it off to recover. Couple that with a lot of homework and a review of Starcraft, which took a lot longer than I thought it would, and now I'm too tired. Anyway, sorry about this Guy—I'll make it top priority tomorrow. Would you mind if I posted it on the guide's talk page? Thanks. Ashnard Talk Contribs 20:17, 17 April 2008 (UTC)

Unending discussion

This discussion is becoming annoying. I've about stretched my patience to the breaking point with this user (and I consider myself very even-tempered and overly civil), and his obstinate nature is about all I can handle. Fresh comments would be nice. Cheers, Sephiroth BCR (Converse) 08:02, 4 May 2008 (UTC)

At the same time, I have remained calm and polite with you as I will continue to do. I have made over 100 edits to the article in question and two of the photographs on it are ones that I personally took with my own camera. I even bought a book to use for sources as I believe in the article. So, please understand that of course I have a strong opinion and considering how much time and effort I put into it, it is of course frustrating when others obstinately just keep challenging rather than helping these efforts. Sincerely, --Le Grand Roi des CitrouillesTally-ho! 08:07, 4 May 2008 (UTC)
That you have a strong opinion in the face of an overwhelming consensus there that you simply refuse to accept is what is irritating. You haven't nudged an iota since the discussion began and basically every user present stated that the table was unnecessary and the article should be merged. That is being obstinate. Furthermore, I'm not obliged to help with the article in any fashion whatsoever, nor is anyone there. I'm a volunteer, as are you and everyone else here, and I can work on or raise opinions on whatever I like. Sephiroth BCR (Converse) 08:14, 4 May 2008 (UTC)
There have been ongoing discussions prior to and elsewhere to this particular discussion in which others have also argued against merging. Consensus is not about numbers and I have in fact agreed and have no qualms about some of the material being used elsewhere. Have you "nudged an iota since the discussion began" and been any less "obstinate"? Yes, we are volunteers and we should be able to help each other to improve articles that we mutually believe can be improved or if for whatever reason we don't like certain articles that are well-referenced and are not hoaxes or copy vios, then we will allow those who are actively working to improve them to continue their efforts. Again, I am all for making the most of the information provided and nor would I be against expanding the article to be about weapons in the Resident Evil series in general or even to have new articles that address weapons in video games. And on another note, as I am able to find references for articles, if you would ever like help improving an article you are interested in, I would be happy to help as a good faith effort to ease any tensions between us. Best, --Le Grand Roi des CitrouillesTally-ho! 08:22, 4 May 2008 (UTC)

VG editing guide

I haven't had time to read through the whole thing yet, but I really like what you have there. There are also some good suggestions at User:Cla68#Advice_on_preparing_a_history_article_for_FA you might be able to integrate. I hate to say it, but you might have to make it more concise to be useful. An old adage my editor likes to repeat: "If you have trouble getting people to review it, you'll have trouble getting people to follow it." --Laser brain (talk) 17:16, 14 May 2008 (UTC)

Let me get back to you when I've had some time to digest it. One problem with the main MoS is that all the subpages and Talk pages confound editors who are just poking around looking for one bit of information. Would you say your document is meant as a casual reference or as a "read this all the way through"? --Laser brain (talk) 18:10, 14 May 2008 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:Break Shot (manga cover01).jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Break Shot (manga cover01).jpg. You've indicated that the image meets Wikipedia's criteria for non-free content, but there is no explanation of why it meets those criteria. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. If you have any questions, please post them at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions.

Thank you for your cooperation. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. STBotI (talk) 14:26, 22 May 2008 (UTC)

Space Invaders

How's it going, Guy? Okay, here it is:

Magazine: ONM. Issue: 29 (May) Page no.: 46 Author: Not stated (Put ONM staff)

Captions: The bosses are complex characters made up of smaller invaders and large pixels. Nice./ There are loads of different types of invader in this game: some turn sideways top avoid being shot and some are huge and need multiple shots to kill them./ The game is linked to music, so every time you fire a bullet or kill an invader the sound effect is played to the beat. It's strangely addictive./ Complete a mini-game to tigger Fever mode, where your bullets become stronger./ Throughout the games you can pick up various power-ups which give you a more powerful weapon for limited time. This laser destroys everything./

Wow. That's the first word we said when we went hands-on with this modern day reworking of this ultimate arcade classic. There were two reasons for this: firstly because the game looks and plays fantastic, and secondly because we've seen so many rubbish attempts to 'revive' Space Invaders over the years that we had pretty much accepted by now that nothing would ever beat the simplicity of the original. The best way to describe the game is Space Invaders meets Rez, but for those who have never played Rez before, let us explain what we mean. Although the basic gameplay is classic Space Invaders—move your ship left and right and fire at the moving ships—it's now fully integrated with the music that plays through each level. This means that any time you shoot an invader, the sound effect delays slightly and plays at the next beat of the music. This might not sound too great but you really have to experience Space Invaders Extreme in order to fully understand.

Subheading: Blast from the Past./ In terms of the actual gameplay, each stage consists of a number of waves of invaders. Space Invaders Extreme is much faster than the original though, meaning you can plough through waves relatively quickly. Shooting invaders of a certain colour will also drop power-ups that help you blast through the waves much quicker. Green ones drop a multi-shot power-up for example, while blue ones dropa huge laser weapon that blasts everything in its path. There are also all sorts of different invaders now. Some turn sideways to make them much harder to hit, while others hide behind shields that drop fast bullets when you shoot them. Add to this the mini-challenges that appear when you shoot various-coloured UFOs at the top of the screen, and the excellent boss battles (which involve huge invaders made up of loads of small ones) and you've got a potential cracker in the making. Have a look at the video on our webioste to see what we mean.

Subheading: How's it Shaping Up?/ Space Invaders Extreme may not grab you as te greatest-looking videogame ever, but it has a style that makes it unique. This could well be a surprise hit; you heard it here first.

I said that I'd get to this when you I have spare time, and this is the first time I've found it—it really has been that difficult. Sorry for taking so long. Cheers. Ashnard Talk Contribs 18:05, 23 May 2008 (UTC)

Hello. You gave your support to the FAC of Facebook a while back. About a week ago, I reviewed the article and found troubling sourcing issues (as well as prose issues, but those are less salient). While the nominator has been active on Wikipedia the past week, he has not made an effort to address the issues I raised. Re: Halo (series) FAC

I rewrote one section. I should have read it more throughly before I nominated it, I'm not too experienced in FAC's. I think that there are a few things that could be fixed pretty quickly, although others will take some time. If David will help, it seems that will be big a help to us (hopefully a few other guys in the Halo WP will join in too). Although, and I am guilty of this as well, I've noticed once someone works on an article about a topic that they know well, sometimes it is difficult to see the sections where it is unclear to beginners on the topic. Perhaps a to do list on the discussion page would be good to keep everyone on the same page? Blackngold29 20:31, 30 May 2008 (UTC)

VG Guidelines

Hey there. There was a recent discussion on the VG guidelines talk page about the guidelines. Overall, the content of the guidelines has strong consensus. But a few people thought the guidelines had grown cluttered and disorganized, even if their purpose and meaning are rock solid. I put together a new layout at my user page. My goal was to keep the meaning the same, but to improve the clarity and organization of the guidelines.

I contacted Masem and KieferSkunk initially because they'd been around long enough to have taken part in many discussions about these guidelines and probably have the most experience with them. Now I'm contacting you too, for the same reason. I was hoping you could take a quick look and tell me your gut reaction so far. If there's any areas where you think I'm way off and need to change to be closer to what we have now, or if there's areas where you think I can make further progress. After I've tried to tackle your feedback, I hope to put the proposal to the larger wikiproject.

Take a look when you find a minute. And reply directly at my talk page. Randomran (talk) 17:06, 31 May 2008 (UTC)
