Michael Collins was an American astronaut who flew the Apollo 11 command module Columbia around the Moon in 1969 while his crewmates, Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin, made the first crewed landing on the surface. He was selected as part of NASA's third group of 14 astronauts in 1963 and flew in space twice.

Checkuser

Good night GeneralNotability, I saw that I was mentioned here, however, as you probably noticed, I have no relationship with this MarquinhosWikipediano. In my contributions, this is the first edition since December 2020. Perhaps I was mentioned because my account had a different name until March 27 of that year (my full name). In February I asked to globally rename my account so that it had a shorter username, but as there was a Commons account with that name, it was necessary to wait a month for my account to be effectively renamed. My English is bad and, since I don't speak Portuguese, I had to use the translator to write this message, but I believe I understood what I meant. Finally, pleasure to speak, I am sysop in Wikipedia in Portuguese. Marcos (talk) 06:51, 5 May 2021 (UTC)

Marquinhos, I understand what you meant. I think this was just a mistake by the user who filed the sockpuppet investigation, I am not concerned that you are MarquinhosWikipediano. I have removed the page that was associated with your name. Pleasure to speak with you as well~ GeneralNotability (talk) 22:22, 5 May 2021 (UTC)

Found a Zenmate proxy

Hi here. I found a Zenmate proxy 146.70.13.0/16, but because disruption from it is still nonexistent yet, I feel that anon-blocking would be better at the moment. 146.70.13.8 (talk) 09:50, 5 May 2021 (UTC)

Confirmed at WPOP (though the actual range is smaller), someone just needs to hit the block button. Blablubbs|talk 12:38, 5 May 2021 (UTC)
The /24 has been globally blocked and I'll deal with the WPOP report in a bit. GeneralNotability (talk) 22:54, 5 May 2021 (UTC)

Username

I decided to block that username, I was pronouncing it with a shorter o and didn't think of what you pointed out, which makes sense to me. 331dot (talk) 08:08, 3 May 2021 (UTC)

331dot, somewhere out there there's a Richard Gobbler, born 4/20/1969, and his life is a living hell. SubjectiveNotability a GN franchise (talk to the boss) 13:06, 3 May 2021 (UTC)
Is that because his name's pronunciation is a bit of a mouthful? Cabayi (talk) 18:44, 7 May 2021 (UTC)

Testing something

Hey, you're near the top of the "recently active admins" list. If you see this in next few minutes, can you locally disable the global block on 45.32.248.0/21, leaving the local block in place? I want to see how block messages display in the (possibly now fixed) Android app. Suffusion of Yellow (talk) 23:41, 14 May 2021 (UTC)

Suffusion of Yellow, global block is locally disabled, local block is in place (well, okay, I first misunderstood what you wanted and locally unblocked the /21, but the /20 is still locally blocked) GeneralNotability (talk) 23:44, 14 May 2021 (UTC)
Urghh, IP changed already! Thanks, but I'll try to come up with a better way of doing this... You can reblock. Suffusion of Yellow (talk) 23:54, 14 May 2021 (UTC)
All righty, exemption removed - let me know if you have any other ideas. GeneralNotability (talk) 23:56, 14 May 2021 (UTC)

A request from a blocked editor for talk page access to be restored

Hi, General. On 9 November 2020 you removed talk page access from indefinitely-blocked editor Core2012. (In my opinion you were totally right to do so.) After waiting 6 months, the editor has now posted an appeal at UTRS. What the editor says in that appeal is not, in my opinion, in itself enough to unblock, but it goes a good deal towards being more like a reasonable appeal than any of what they said in their talk page before you removed talk page access. The UTRS appeal also says "Please reinstate my talk page access so that I can appeal my block". How do you feel about reinstating talk page access? JBW (talk) 21:32, 11 May 2021 (UTC)

JBW, I see you went ahead and restored TPA (sorry, I've been pretty busy and haven't had much Wikipedia time the past few days) - for the record, no objections here. I have my doubts that they'll actually end up being a productive editor, but I'm willing to extend some rope. GeneralNotability (talk) 01:15, 14 May 2021 (UTC)
Thanks 😊 for your reply. I too have doubts that we will get a productive editor out of this, but I feel there's just about enough of a possibility that it's worth giving them a chance to prove us both wrong, in view of the change in approach shown in the UTRS appeal. (Though that may be no more than saying what they think we want to hear.) JBW (talk) 13:13, 18 May 2021 (UTC)

SPI question

Hey! Not challenging your close, I am trying however to learn more on SPI and relevant policy. Why did you state that this is not sockpuppetry? Doesn't Wikipedia:BADSOCK point-6:

"Contributing to the same page or discussion with multiple accounts: Editors may not use more than one account to contribute to the same page or discussion in a way that suggests they are multiple people. Contributing to the same page with clearly linked, legitimate, alternative accounts (e.g. editing the same page with your main and public computer account or editing a page using your main account that your bot account edited) is not forbidden."

apply in relation to Draft:Ethide Laboratories edits? This also potentially avoid scrutiny as non-admins can't easily see who previously created speedy deleted articles, and multiple recreations of promotional articles is grounds for reporting and blocking.--Eostrix  (🦉 hoot hoot🦉) 06:02, 19 May 2021 (UTC)

Eostrix, as a rule we don't consider the use of multiple accounts to be sockpuppetry if they aren't used at the same time and aren't actively pretending to be different people. The general assumption is that they lost access to their account, forgot their password, something like that. In this case, the last edit of the older account was 3-4 days before the first edit of the newer account. There are limits to this, of course - if someone switches accounts right after getting several warnings and then resumes their problematic behavior, that's evasion of scrutiny and will probably earn them a block. GeneralNotability (talk) 16:16, 19 May 2021 (UTC)
Thanks! So WP:AGF for returning accounts with no significant warnings.--Eostrix  (🦉 hoot hoot🦉) 16:37, 19 May 2021 (UTC)
Eostrix, exactly. Now, sometimes they're obviously the same person but trying to pretend that they're not (my personal favorite is when someone makes an obvious autobiography, it gets deleted, they get warned for making autobios and they subsequently create a new account that totally isn't the same person), and that isn't something we look at favorably...but as long as they're not evading something and aren't pretending they're multiple people we'll let it slide. DS 2021 Review Update

Dear GeneralNotability,

Thank you for participating in the recent discretionary sanctions community consultation. We are truly appreciative of the range of feedback we received and the high quality discussion which occurred during the process. We have now posted a summary of the feedback we've received and also a preview of some of what we expect to happen next. Your IP block

Hi there. I see you blocked this IP. I'm wondering if this is also this registered account. I tried to run it through the Editor Interaction Analyzer, but it wouldn't work with the IP. Lots of similar edits from some of the IPs. Thanks! Magnolia677 (talk) 22:09, 23 May 2021 (UTC)

My mistake, I was only able to find one match. Cheers. Magnolia677 (talk) 09:52, 24 May 2021 (UTC)
