Speedy deletion nomination of The Radboud Excellence Initiative edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on The Radboud Excellence Initiative requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article or image appears to be a clear copyright infringement. This article or image appears to be a direct copy from http://www.ru.nl/excellence/why-join/what-radboud/. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website or image but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Notes edit

One, you are not allowed to remove speedy deletion tags from articles you have created. Two, Wikipedia does not allow advertising and/or promotion WP:SPAM. Three, Wikipedia does not allow the introduction of copyright text. Wikipedia is licensed under CC-BY-SA 3.0 and the GFDL for free reuse by anyone anywhere, and text that is clearly marked as copyright is incompatible with this licence. Under certain circumstances, text may be licensed to Wikipedia, but in this case the text is too promotional to be accepted. Four, the notability of this project has not been shown. Please see WP:GNG for general notability, and WP:RS about the reliable independent sources needed to prove the notability. Referencing solely from your own site is not regarded as reliable or independent. Peridon (talk) 13:22, 17 March 2015 (UTC)Reply

Dear Peridon. It was not my intention to break the rules, merely to create a page about the Initiative for which I work. I will make a new page with no copyrighted text used (although the copyright on the original website is mine). I did not mean to remove a speedy deletion tag from the article. Please let me know if I am using too many links back to the University website. Thanks

Speedy deletion nomination of The Radboud Excellence Initiative edit

Hello GWL88,

I wanted to let you know that I just tagged The Radboud Excellence Initiative for deletion, because it seems to be promotional, rather than an encyclopedia article.

If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to work on it, you can contest this deletion, but please don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions. ubiquity (talk) 13:55, 17 March 2015 (UTC)Reply

The Radboud Excellence Initiative edit

The number one thing you need to do is to find some sources other than the initiative's own web pages. Currently, the page looks like something you are very proud of -- you list everyone involved and the benefits of being part of the initiative -- but there's nothing to suggest that anyone else thinks this is notable. I agree that you have made it less promotional by removing the external links to all the participants, and by toning it down some, but you absolutely must be able to show that the subject has "received significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject." If such coverage does not exist yet, then it is probably too soon for an article on this topic, and you might want to consider waiting until the initiative has attracted more outside attention. ubiquity (talk) 14:29, 17 March 2015 (UTC)Reply

BTW, when you post on someone else's talk page, don't forget to sign your post with four tildes (~~~~). It makes correspondence much easier. ubiquity (talk) 14:30, 17 March 2015 (UTC)Reply

If you are going to add the sources soon, I will remove the tag, and we'll see what it looks like when you're done. However, it's probably better if you move the article temporarily to the Draft: space while you're working on it. That way other people won't tag it (I see it's been tagged before). Also, please sign your posts (see previous). I am replying on your page instead of mine because your post was unsigned. ubiquity (talk) 14:35, 17 March 2015 (UTC)Reply

Proposed deletion of The Radboud Excellence Initiative edit

The article The Radboud Excellence Initiative has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

non notable academic institute

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.
