Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.

This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Ock Soo Park

edit

Hello Foolishservant, thank you for your message on my user talk page.

When you said "I will assume responsibilities for the changes to the page for Ock Soo Park", it sounds as if you are under the impression that Wikipedia articles have people who have some kind of main responsibility for updating them. That is not the case – almost all articles are open for editing by almost anybody and no editor owns an article.

However, the "anybody can edit" principle does come with a responsibility: nobody may edit in a way that goes against Wikipedia's policies. PhilemonYoo's edits were almost entirely unacceptable as they were written from the point of view of Yoo's organisation, with a lot of promotional content and unsourced details. Please note that Wikipedia is, in general, not concerned with what a person says about themselves, only what other people who are unconnected with them has published about them – and those are the publications that should be used to support the information in Wikipedia.

If PhilemonYoo had taken the time to read the information posted to their user talk page, they would have seen that as a volunteer within Park's organisation who edited Wikipedia as part of their volunteer duties, they fall squarely within what is defined as a paid editor. Unfortunately they never made any effort to make the mandatory disclosure which means that they violated an important Wikipedia policy. There are other policies connected with having a conflict of interest, and I will post some pointers about that below. Please read those, and follow the instructions (especially as concerns not editing the article directly but only posting edit requests to the article's talk page). Note that the blue links lead to important information pages. If you are editing Wikipedia in order to spread the fame of a person, you do have a conflict of interest and are expected to edit within those guidelines.

I hope this makes sense. Your efforts to work within Wikipedia's policies is appreciated. Regards, --bonadea contributions talk 08:01, 23 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

Another point I forgot to address: you said "We are by no means professional editors and would appreciate your guidance." Nobody is a professional editor here. We are all volunteers, doing this in our free time as and when we feel like doing so. Regards, --bonadea contributions talk 08:03, 23 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

Managing a conflict of interest

edit

  Hello, Foolishservant. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about in the page Ock Soo Park, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

  • avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, colleagues, company, organization or competitors;
  • propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (you can use the {{request edit}} template);
  • disclose your conflict of interest when discussing affected articles (see Wikipedia:Conflict of interest#How to disclose a COI);
  • avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see WP:Spam);
  • do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. bonadea contributions talk 08:01, 23 May 2020 (UTC)Reply
