Re: HOMOSEXUALS ARE GAY

I cannot tell you how embarassed I am about reverting the page back to its vandalized state. I have just been through a similar situation with another editor, and clearly need to be more careful about which versions I revert. My best guess as to what happened is either 1) both 68.50.239.168 and I tried to correct the article at the same time, or 2) I saw that the [Otherwise ungiven] edit summary for user 68.50.239.168 was described as "HOMOSEXUALS ARE GAY," I assumed that they had been the one commiting the vandalism, instead of correcting it. Though you probably already know this, it was as far as I can tell, anonymous user 58.165.154.122 who originally renamed that section. Either way, I'm very sorry for my carelessness, hope you forgive me, and thank you for correcting my mistake and bringing it to my attention. :) --Friginator 03:23, 29 September 2008 (UTC)

No worries mate, I've done that plenty in the past.  :) I should've known something was up, your talk page clearly isn't that of a vandal. Happy editing to you. -FlyingToaster (talk) 03:29, 29 September 2008 (UTC)

Romes Begining

This article may be badly written, starting with the spelling and punctuation of the title, and may duplicate material in Rome, but how is it "unsalvageably incoherent with no meaningful content or history; it is patent nonsense." as your CSD states? CSD G1 does not cover "poor writing." Is there another basis for deletion? Thanks Edison (talk) 04:01, 29 September 2008 (UTC)

Edison - I'd say even with the spelling problems, this article is entirely a duplicate of the Rome article, which has an extensive section on its founding and the legend behind it. -FlyingToaster (talk) 04:12, 29 September 2008 (UTC)

johnny drama chase

dude, listen the ip address vandalized that PAGE. The johnny drama chase character is based off of Mark Wahlberg's cousin as stated in various interviews by him, Doug Ellin (creator of Entourage) and they show him Johnny Drama Alves the inspiration on the season 1 and season 2 extras.Tj21 (talk) 05:24, 30 September 2008 (UTC)

I just can't believe it got into the paper in Edmonton. Well, that and until I went to add it I didn't even realize that we had a standalone article on him rather than one blurb in a Sudbury municipal election article (though with the way User:CJCurrie's been beefing up the Sudbury municipal politics articles lately, I should have known...) Bearcat (talk) 23:41, 1 October 2008 (UTC)

Sensationalist news does better than it should or the subject deserves, I guess. I'm not even in Canada and nor following the Canadian election and this article was delivered to me via Digg. -FlyingToaster (talk) 23:44, 1 October 2008 (UTC)
Nah, I could totally believe this kind of thing getting international press if it happened in Toronto or Montreal or Vancouver. It just surprises me to see this kind of attention being focused on something that happened in Sudbury. For what it's worth, though, the guy already had the kind of reputation in Sudbury that even if all of the other candidates were killed by falling satellites tomorrow and he were the only name left on the ballot, he'd still lose. Please be more careful/slow down tagging articles for speedy deletion, this one is obviously not nonsense but spam. Thank you, Matty (talk) 02:46, 2 October 2008 (UTC)

Hey Matty. I see what you mean and agree that the article is spam. However, at some point a rather imprecise decision must be made over whether a spammy nonsense article is more spam or more nonsense.  :) -FlyingToaster (talk) 03:00, 2 October 2008 (UTC)

Apologies regarding the ISO 15288 article if I have posted there incorrectly (it's my first post on Wikipedia). I can't work out what I did wrong - can you please explain to me what I have done, if necessary to my email richbynature@yahoo.com and then delete this comment to you as an cumbersome first attempt to get clarity on how I should post! —Preceding unsigned comment added by Socraticsausage (talkcontribs) 05:45, 2 October 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for the note, explanation and edit. While I was flapping about I made some changes, went back and read your comment to me and re-edited the entry to read as you had suggested. I'll keep learning :) How did you know when 15288 was last edited? Do you work in the systems engineering field? (Socraticsausage (talk) 06:07, 2 October 2008 (UTC))

No worries, as a systems engineer you probably have a lot of expertise Wikipedia could benefit from.  :) I do work as a programmer, but I definitely didn't know about ISO/IEC 15288 without Googling! -FlyingToaster (talk) 06:16, 2 October 2008 (UTC)

GTbyCitroen deletion

before i start i must say you jumped on it fast. no sooner had i finished it, it was gone!

However i wish to contest something. I was NOT advertising the car, nor did i intend to. I dont work for Citroen (to be honest i dont really like them). i just felt like it needed an article, or at least a mention

- flashkick101Flashkick101 (talk) 23:00, 2 October 2008 (UTC)
Hey flashkick101. I agree that the GT is notable enough for a page, and if the style is re-written in a more neutral point of view with references it could be a great addition to Wikipedia. If you'd like to try again, I'm happy to edit the article and help out with references and style. -FlyingToaster (talk) 00:18, 3 October 2008 (UTC)

RE: GTbyCitroen

Thanks that would help. I was my first asttempt at an article so i wasnt all too sure on how to word it, lay itout, etc. If you could make 'more neutral' that would be great. In the cars section on uk.msn.com, there is a feature about the Paris Motor Show. It has info on the car there.Flashkick101 (talk) 09:52, 3 October 2008 (UTC)

hot Shot Insecticide

Please can you explain why you slapped the tag on the page? It clealy says that it is under construction. Vandalismterminator (talk) 16:16, 5 October 2008 (UTC)

Hey Vandalismterminator. I added the tag because I could not establish the notability of the subject after a few searches. If you'd like to contest that the subject is notable, please do so in the talk page. An external source would be useful to establish this. Thanks! -FlyingToaster (talk) 16:28, 5 October 2008 (UTC)
No problem, I was in the requested pages and that was one of them. I was searching the internet to try and find information on it but was unable to find it so I will remove my hang on tag and let it be deleted. Vandalismterminator (talk) 16:47, 5 October 2008 (UTC)

Marking Patrolled

Please remember to mark pages as patrolled after review, especially after tagging CSD. Thanks. - Jameson L. Tai talkcontribs 17:36, 7 October 2008 (UTC)

Hey Jamesontai. Once I mark a page as CSD, the link to mark it as patrolled disappears. Is this not what typically happens? -FlyingToaster (talk) 17:58, 7 October 2008 (UTC)
I just popped back over to take your talk page off my watch list, but I'll jump in anyways. I mark the page patrolled first, then apply tags. (CSD, maintenance, whatever). With Twinkle, you can apply the tags even from the page that comes up after marking as patrolled -- I assume that works with Huggle as well. If not, just hit the back button on your browser or reload the page. The only hitch is I have to make sure I don't get interrupted before I complete my tagging. If that's a possibility, I open the page in two different tabs in my browser -- one for tagging and one to mark as patrolled afterwards.
The reason it's important is that if you don't mark it as patrolled it will still show up as unpatrolled and someone else will have to re-patrol it. People get frustrated after coming across a few dozen of those. :) --Fabrictramp | talk to me 18:44, 7 October 2008 (UTC)

Speedy A2

This is just to inform you that an article in a foreign language is speedable only if it is an exact copy of an article found in a foreign-language Wikipedia. Otherwise, it should be tagged {{notenglish}}.

Of course, if you understand a foreign language and see an article in that language that can be speedied under other criteria, those other criteria still apply. -- Blanchardb -MeMyEarsMyMouth- timed 00:17, 9 October 2008 (UTC)

Glyn Eithrym

Hi. Thanks for continuing to deal with Carrot18's antics. I noticed that they tried to recreate the article after it was speedily deleted. Carrot18 attempted to make "minor changes" to Myron Evans, but this amounted to posting Evans' version of his CV. The BLP stabilized to a biographical stub some 2 years ago, following a lot of activity at the time. This editor is clearly disruptive and is ignoring the rules of wikipedia, as far as sourcing is concerned. Many thanks, Mathsci (talk) 08:04, 9 October 2008 (UTC)

It seems that Carrot18 (talk · contribs) is Myron Evans according to this edit summary.[1] There is an obvious conflict of interest here. If he continues he should be reported at WP:AN/I. Mathsci (talk) 08:17, 9 October 2008 (UTC)

Question about new user

Hi, I notice that you left a comment on the talk page of "new" user William Tennant. I am concerned that this very active [2] and very political account may be a WP:SPA or even a role account aimed at sanitizing Republican scandals and blackening Democrats. For example:

  • Took Sarah Palin's "Troopergate" out of the category of "American political scandal" putting it into his newly-created subcategory "Alaska political scandal" [3]
  • Bill Clintons long-ago "Troopergate" is now an "Arkansas political scandal" but also keeps its position as an "American political scandal." [4]
  • Series of unflattering edits to Democrat Pete Stark [5]

I don't really know what to do about this, but I thought I would ask for your advice. Of course, maybe I just went over there and bit an innocent newbie whose POV happens to be different from my own. Markdepp (talk) 10:36, 13 October 2008 (UTC)

Letter To America

Letter To America has been proposed for deletion. An editor Awesimo 00:18, 9 March 2007 (UTC) felt this website might not yet be notable enough for an article. Please review Wikipedia:Notability (websites) for the relevant guidelines. If you can improve the article to address these concerns, please do so.

If no one objects to the deletion within five days by removing the "prod" notice, the article may be deleted without further discussion. If you remove the prod notice, the deletion process will stop, but if an editor is still not satisfied that it meets Wikipedia guidelines, it may be sent to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion for consensus. NickelShoe (Talk) 05:40, 23 December 2006 (UTC)

My opinion is that Letter To America is indeed notable enough for a Wikipedia article based upon the size of its audience (you can check the Frappr map on the "LTA website", nomination and competition in several high-profile blog competitions such as the Irish Blog Awards, and notoriety of its creator, Jett Loe. In short, I think LTA has earned its place and is continuing to grow. FlyingToaster 07:14, 2 April 2007 (UTC)

SIGBOVIK

As much as I want SIGBOVIK to live a thousand years, as its only mentions come from Livejournals at the moment, do you think that section should perhaps be removed until there is some attributable source for the conference? In my opinion it would make sense to leave it in the links at the bottom... Sirmob 06:50, 2 April 2007 (UTC)

Hey Sirmob - I did attribute the "SIGBOVIK website" in the article. I'll assume you didn't see it, but if you did and don't feel this is enough please let me know. FlyingToaster 03:50, 2 April 2007
That's a self reference, obviously, even though I think I think it is reasonable to get away with leaving that link under external links. I gave a talk at SIGBOVIK today, it's not like I want to delete the information, but I think having the section on SIGBOVIK risks the page being deleted, which I also wouldn't want. And I suppose this is pretty close to a thing we made up in grad school one day, at least this time around :). Sirmob 07:16, 2 April 2007 (UTC)
Indeed it is self-reference, and for SIGBOVIK I doubt anything better will surface. So, I'll leave it up to you whether to get rid of it or not. The sentence or two seems innocent enough, but if you feel it's approaching thing we made up in grad school one day deleteable level, please feel free to get rid of it.  :) FlyingToaster 07:25, 2 April 2007 (UTC)
I sentence-ified the link reference at the end - and don't be so sure that "nothing better will surface," if we keep this up multiple years I suspect people will take note. And failing that, I suppose we could just talk to someone at The Tartan ;-) Sirmob 13:19, 2 April 2007 (UTC)

John Linehan (basketball) Speedy Deletion

The guy is the current NCAA career steals leader, three-time Big East Defensive Player of the Year, and a former NABC Defensive Player of the Year award winner. Clearly notable. I would recommend at least doing a Google search on the guy before nominating for speedy deletion, much less regular deletion.--User:2008Olympianchitchatseemywork 05:59, 23 October 2008 (UTC)

Sorry, didn't mean to be snippy, it was just that the speedy delete was very quick and unexpected, I should have had more references than I did. I thought that his Iba Award was enough to have him meet WP:NOTEDPLAYER, but he got some national AP coverage too when he set the mark that I hadn't yet included.--User:2008Olympianchitchatseemywork 06:18, 23 October 2008 (UTC)
