Comments/Disputes/Mistakes?

The information user TylerKnew is posting concerning Governor Beshear and Mr. Kelley is exaggerations at best and slander at worst. I have a pretty good take on who the user is or is aligned with, and he's trying to slander certain individuals as part of a Ballard County political pissing match, which does not need to spill into Wikipedia. Mr. Kelley is not a known figure outside of that county, and does not warrant mention in a biography concerning the Governor.

Just saw this, thought I'd throw in...I did not write what was originally stated about Kelley and the Governor, I'm just trying to protect it against vandalism because it is, IMO, well-sourced. As I've said to many of these individuals editing the article, please take it up in the Talk: Steve Beshear page and don't remove content just because. Wikipedia is supposed to be neutral. Just saw what you wrote on my talk page, I was working off the understanding that 3RR didn't apply in regards to vandalism. Just to update, if you check the Beshear edit history, I believe the user who started this thread is trying to post false personal details about myself (i.e. name) in an attempt to intimidate me, which is barred under Wikipedia. Nice try. TylerKnew He got an idea that it was someone named Cale from one of the sources linked (the PageOneKentucky one)(talk) 02:06, 19 June 2009 (UTC)

Do you believe that the person who started and keeps doing this is the same person? If it is truly vandalism, you should try maybe requesting to see if the users are using sockpuppet accounts. Elockid (talk) 02:11, 19 June 2009 (UTC)

Actually I do. I keep warning them about deleting randomly and when it gets to the point that I have to place the template stating that the next time they do it, they will be blocked...a new account surfaces and that one never is seen again. Check out WP:PA and see what can be done if you would...trying to post personal details in an attempt to harass people is strictly against WP policy. I'm not entirely familiar with the process so if you could help I'd appreciate it. As far as posting the notice on my page, the way I look at it, no harm, no foul, that's the way it's supposed to work, don't sweat it :) TylerKnew (talk) 02:15, 19 June 2009 (UTC)

Thank you for being understanding. The best advice I can give is ask help from an admin about the WP Policy. They should be more familiar with this than me. Yep, I can, and have done so. Just remember that rollback, like other anti-vandalism tools, should be used just to revert vandalism, and misuse/abuse by either reverting edits you disagree with or using them to revert-war with other editors can lead to the tool being removed, sometimes without any warning, depending on the admin. Filipino people

Just wanted to drop you a note about this. Though Orsahnses was clearly pushing war with all of us, you technically violated WP:3RR with your reverts. It's very easy to get pulled in to a war even when you are acting in good faith. The trick is to fight back without engaging in warring yourself - Wikipedia:Dispute resolution is a good way to go. In this case, a report to Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Edit warring was called for, as Orsahnses had violated WP:3RR well before your fourth revert. Happy editing! Excellent work handling the Orsahnses sock! My only note would be that sockpuppet investigations should be opened under the name of the "master" account, which is usually the first multiple account identified (in this case, Orsahnses (talk · contribs)). Thank you for the compliment. This was my first time reporting a sockpuppet account, so again, I wasn't too experienced. Oops, that was a mistake on my part. Thank you for informing me. The bold lettering probably threw me off. I didn't catch that there was so match vandalism on the page. Hi there and thanks for the heads up on the mistake I made. Also, I noticed that you also commented for User talk:98.21.130.13. Before I put the speedy deletion template, I noticed that it was this user who created it, User:67.82.60.241 not User:98.21.130.13, that's why I put it up and user 67.82.60.241 just added some nonsense to the user talk page. Just for future reference, should I just put up a welcome template and remove the nonsense if this kind of situation happens again where a different user creates someone else's user talk page and add nonsense? --Elockid (talk) 04:37, 2 July 2009 (UTC)

Yes. Never be afraid to give a welcome template! I know, some users shriek about, "how can you welcome a vandal?" There are actually two templates for welcoming the underly constructive, so "yeah , I did." There's also a template for welcoming anon's.

But welcoming is not about being nice primarily. It is an opportunity to let a new user know about the expectations held by the community. Can we honestly say, "I'm blocking you for not going by the rules," when we've not made sure they had links to the rules? Where welcoming is pretty inappropriate, for attack pages, I use a template that explains in no uncertain terms how I feel about such and includes links and admonishments to the appropriate rules.

If an anon has no prior warnings, I use {{{template:anon}}} unless it involves so egregious an edit as to eliminate WP:AGF. Even if it was a dumb, totally wrong, probably vandalistic edit, I try to WP:AGF the first time, 'cause ultimately I have the power to block them, and will cheerfully do so if they wear out my AGF. How do you add those little boxes at the bottom of your user page? What about pictures? I want to put one up of my dog. I figured out how to add pictures when the picture is hosted on wikipedia (hosted? if not hosted then already on wikipedia on some other article) but I can't seem to find something to upload my own pictures. Oh no, I'm not an admin (I didn't decline it). But looking at the history of the page, there was a copyright notice. When I looked into it, it was an exact copy from the website listed on the notice. They are absolutely correct accusations. They are not at all ridiculous. Your changes to Australia, Iran, Indonesia, and Bangladesh are not even supported by any source. They were absolutely wrong and incorrect. Even the figure for the Gulf Cooperation Council was not correct. Furthermore, it's not an organization like the European Union that exhibits country like powers. Otherwise organizations such as ASEAN and African Union would have been included. You can even check here: IMF, World Bank, and CIA to show indeed that my accusations are correct. Also, none of your changes matches the sources listed. If you think they are correct, then discuss your changes over the talk page of the article for better suggestions. Looks like it, yes. The MO and IPs both seem familiar. I can semi protect the articles if needed, but blocking this user is akin to playing whack-a-mole; as you can see in your list there, they're able to jump IP ranges easily, so even large rangeblocks don't have much effect. Yes it is!

As you may not have known, Spanish/Argentinian people lived there in the first place. I have family in there and i've visited the country. they speak spanish and some tagolog, that's because it's their native language. I can tell you, they are certainly not asians, they don't even look like it. The country is near asia but it's not even connected, it's slightly further away. But the population increased as more foreigners went to lived in philippines, calling themselves filipinos or whatever and making the country a part of asia. Minority of the people are confused if it's part of asia or part of pacific island even. but just like how spain is in europe, argentina is in south america, well philippines happened to be asia but it really should be something else. it simply should be just an island by itself but as a latin country —Preceding unsigned comment added by Aneyeforyou (talk • contribs) 05:59, 8 August 2009 (UTC)

Argentine people? Never heard of them settling in the Philippines. Mainly Spanish via Mexico, not Argentina. The country used to speak Spanish back before the 1970's and 80's. Spanish isn't even an official language in the Philippines or a recognized regional language, that's just how significant it is. I have lots of Filipino friends and I can tell you that almost every single response they get when being asked what nationality/country they are from are Chinese, Japanese, or Korean. I think that really supports that Filipinos are Asian looking people. Also, your family might be part of a minority (Mestizos), that speak Spanish. That doesn't necessarily mean that everyone else speaks Spanish. You can also see that I'm not the only person who disagrees with you, Talk: Philippines#PHILIPPINES-LATIN

Then they edited another page on the page you posted. I checked it out, everything was pink! The pink was nice change from the all black, blue, and red text. thanks for help with stupid typo "<" vs. ">" on mumbai article

the article takes over one minute to load/preview, even to look at history. i'm on FIOS broadband with 2+GB of RAM (without a lot of browser windows going). i have quick, painless access to other sites that are much larger and jazzier than the mumbai article. --98.116.115.180 (talk) 03:15, 19 August 2009 (UTC)

Athens and Thessaloniki parts, Greece at List of cities proper by population density

I think that Neapoli, Ampelokipoi, Kallithea and Nea Smyrni except Athens, should be removed from this list and transferred to List of the most densely populated country subdivisions. All these neighbourhoods are parts of either Athens or Thessaloniki, no matter if they constitute seperate municipalities. They cannot be characterized as different cities as they are absolutely integrated into a whole urban area. On the other hand, the List of the most densely populated country subdivisions explains that it includes every kind of country or urban division. Dimboukas (talk) 13:20, 24 August 2009 (UTC)

Looking at the list from List of the most densely populated country subdivisions, it doesn't seem like it would fit in that much because almost all the places listed there seem to be part of a city district and not part of an urban area (suburb). The places you listed seem to have their own jurisdiction and own boundaries. To your other concern, although they are part of an urban area, they are still considered separate and I think should be included. But we'll just have to wait what other editors have to say in the meanwhile. Why not also ask Pjred since he's also a major contributor to the article? Mumbai modification

My reasoning for the changing of Mumbai to Bombay is the fact that most of the locals refer to it as Bombay as opposed to Mumbai, so I did this as a mark of respect for their views.

The name of the article is Mumbai and in general terms, Wikipedia articles start with the name of title Deleting "formerly named Bombay" is misleading and untrue as the city was truly formerly named Bombay, as you have stated yourself. There is no need to change a colloquial name from the proper name as the proper name is the more preferred way of addressing the city and it's already mentioned that the city was named was Bombay. Furthermore, replacing everything with Mumbai is not very constructive because again, the city is known today as Mumbai and replacing it with Bombay is misleading. Rectifying that locally it still referred to as Bombay does not justify the change from Mumbai to Bombay since the world knows the city as Mumbai and not Bombay now. You have to take into account other view points as well. Since this is very controversial, I suggest that you talk this over in Talk: Mumbai. Elockid ^(Talk·_Contribs) 22:43, 24 August 2009 (UTC)

That's fine with me. To what Nangparbat was talking about. I don't simply revert because he thinks I'm anti-Pakistan. my contributions to 'kolkata' article , and the justifications to include them .

if you notice closely i have actually not inserted anything new . i have just taken parts of the current existing 'kolkata' article which are very widely accepted and edited the introduction part to give it a better description of the city . as it stands in the current version i really feel it conveys a rather 'pessimistic' and 'negative' image of kolkata ,my contribution was not 'too optimistic' , rather just wanted to make it sound more neutral to a reader who is reading about the city for the first time .

'riots , political violence , poverty , congestion , trade unionism ' etc is Not what defines kolkata . so in the present form of the article , the introduction stands really disappointing about one of the most remarkable cities on this planet . i am currently writing from UK , and i can assert you that this is a generally shared view of many of this article . kolkata is an unique city and should have been introduced in a more sensitive and glorious way .

as per verifications-

1) calcutta WAS the capital of british india , and the 'first city 'by population , influence and commerce even long after the capital was shifted to delhi in 1911 .

2)it WAS the seat of 'modern indian renaissance' . ( english and european education , abolition of 'sati' , women education , influence of swami vivekananda , rabindranath tagore , first library , first printing press , indian independance movement , presidency college , first medical college , bengal art movement .. etc. ). much of this is ALREADY CONTAINED in the LATTER SECTIONS of the current revision and is THEREFORE ACCEPTED BY YOU BEFORE .

3)among noble laureates RABINDRANATH TAGORE , AMARTYA SEN hail from kolkata . MOTHER THERESA lived in kolkata for the significant part of her life . RONALD ROSS AND C.V. RAMAN were awarded noble prizes for all the work they had done in kolkata . SATYAJIT RAY , another distinguished calcuttan was the first indian to have been awarded a SPECIAL ACADEMY AWARD ON LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT ( OSCAR) . all these names already figure in latter sections of your current article .In music PANDIT RAVI SHANKAR and recent grammy award winner BIKRAM GHOSH hails from kolkata as well along with many others .

4)'WIDELY DUBBED AS THE CULTURAL CAPITAL OF INDIA' is an excerpt from your CURRENT ARTICLE in a latter section .

5) 'CITY OF JOY' is another widely accepted name , since the time dominic lapierre's famous novel of the same name was became an international hit , followed by a movie of the same name .REF: wikepedia.

6)kolkata was the FIRST city in india to have launched a cell phone service . it was the first and only city in india to have the underground METRO service till recently when delhi become the second city to have a functioning metro service . the details of above can be verified from 'WIKEPEDIA' by clicking on respective links or searches .

7)Kolkata IS the home to largest 'ANGLO INDIAN CHRISTIAN COMMUNITY , ARMENIAN COMMUNITY , CHINESE COMMUNITY , JAIN COMMUNITY AND TRADITIONALLY ONE OF THE LARGEST MUSLIM COMMUNITIES ( even before the creation of east pakistan and subsequently bangladesh ).kolkata IS very cosmopolitan , these are known facts ,and anybody denying these facts will be looked at with wonder by millions .

Your contributions are appreciated and I know the information you added, however you have to understand that Kolkata is a featured article (you can see by the bronze star on the upper right corner of the article) which means that are certain guidelines . Check Wikipedia:Featured articles. Also the edit is too optimistic and not very neutral. Please see WP: NPOV. Phrases such "City a class of its own", and also "Many countless admirers" is definitely not neutral. Furthermore some of the information is controversial and not mentioned anywhere else in the article such as the first city to have cell phone service and modern, vibrant, and cosmopolitan megalopolis. Maybe in India but compared to a person from Japan or Canada, I don't think that Kolkata would be a city that would come up that people would see as modern and cosmopolitan. You just removed the inappropriate warning from Rjanag's talkpage. Same person keeps warring @ South Korea via IP. I've started an SPI, but I'm tired of reverting that stuff. I'll take a look. I've been trying to look into things ever since this user also gave me an inappropriate warning. But I did note something yesterday. In this user's talk page, User talk:HOOTmag:

The IP geolocates to South Korea and Rayesworried is in or from South Korea. It's possible that they are related. So it wouldn't surprise me if they were the same person. Also base on the editing patterns (same pages and message patterns), it be the same person. Also it might be a good idea to ask for a rangeblock because I've seen the anon user use multiple IP's.
