Refinancing
Hi Dycedarg. Scot184 is removing the content at refinancing based on a conversation at my talk page. In short, he's claiming copyright on the text - he added it based on a misunderstanding of how it would be attributed. I'm going to look for alternate sources and rewrite the content, but I'm going to remove it (as unverifiable) if I can't find anything useful. Thanks for watching the page! Kuru talk 00:58, 20 January 2007 (UTC)
- Ah, that makes sense. I was kind of confused, because he removed the text without an edit summary and marked the edit as minor, which seemed like vandalism, but had a number of edits beforehand that definitely weren't. I left a note on his talk page asking him to leave edit summaries if he's going to go deleting stuff, but it's nice to know why he did it. Dycedarg ж 01:30, 20 January 2007 (UTC)
- Yup, it looked like a textbook random deletion. I've fixed up the article a little - it looked like most of the material he added was kind of already mentioned, so I removed the text and added a few cited mentions in the other paragraphs. The article still seriously undersourced and probably needs a complete makeover. Again, thanks for your great work on RC patrol. Kuru talk 02:03, 20 January 2007 (UTC)
I need a second opinion, so I'll bug you for one. Does this article belong in an encyclopedia? Cornell Rockey 16:14, 20 January 2007 (UTC)
Race & Intellegence
Stop removing the table or I will report it as VANDALISM --Kevin Murray 02:40, 22 January 2007 (UTC)
- I will agree with you that the table should be rewritten, but I'd like to see some consensus first on what it should contain --Kevin Murray 02:40, 22 January 2007 (UTC)
- I think that this table can be a way to introduce a broad range of objective material to the article. The suggested alterntive is more narrow focused research --Kevin Murray 02:40, 22 January 2007 (UTC)
- I support the deletion of the other article, but there is broad support for redirect to this article. Since redirect is not specifically the topic for discussion at the AfD, it is not a valid "vote" forum on the proper inclusion here. This is the forum at which that discussion should be held. --Kevin Murray 02:40, 22 January 2007 (UTC)
I put a modified chart at Talk:IQ by ancestry as some work-in-progress for discussion. Of course the referencing problem remains and some of the independent entries might be ommitted. Is this getting toward an acceptable format? After spending some time looking through the references at the original chart I can see that they don't really tie to specific data, but that can be overcome. Your thoughts?
Thanks. --Kevin Murray 06:21, 22 January 2007 (UTC)
I put a note below your nomination to offer the alternative format for discussion, along with a summary of the AfD thoughts. This is a bit unconventional, so if you object, feel free to change, move, or delete the note. Thanks. --Kevin Murray 07:08, 22 January 2007 (UTC)
Yes, thanks. I agree with your change and that we will see little more activity at the AfD, but I might pickup some help with the research. --Kevin Murray 07:31, 22 January 2007 (UTC)
Hey there, I deleted the section about refinancing types because that was content I added originally, and after speaking with Kuru, I decided to take my information down as it wasn't from a reliable source. It is my own content from a personal weblog which he deemed inappropriate for Wikipedia. Thanks.—The preceding unsigned comment was added by Scot184 (talk • contribs) 16:54, 22 January 2007 (UTC)
re: Eternal Decision
Shouldn't the person who puts it up for deletion give a reason as to why. It is my understanding that not every single fact on wikipedia needs to be sourced, only if it is considered controversial and I see nothing on the article that would qualify it as such.--E tac 09:45, 27 January 2007 (UTC)

Hi there Dycedarg! You recently edited in the 1st world page, that Mexico is not a 1st World country and is in no way higher that South Korea in unemployment, for this I thank you! We are currently holding a 4 party talk, 2 neutral observers, myself and Cali567.
I have cited my sources in my arguements that South Korea is indeed a 1st World country, along with Hong Kong, but he seems to believe that Argentina and Mexico are ahead.

Vandalism to Jeff Boman
Hi Dycedarg.
Is there any way to get the jerk at 24.236.179.20 who vandalized my page with disgusting pornographic insults (page: Jeff Boman)? I have a hunch who it is; a guy who threatened to mess up my page on another Web forum.
I graduated from high school crap like that in 1984. This jerk needs to be taught a lesson in the law. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 74.57.243.142 (talk • contribs) 23:37, 5 February 2007 (UTC)
Hi. Unfortunately, there really isn't much you can do. Wikipedia's policies only allow for punitive measures after a consistent history of abuse. If he vandalized your page or attacked you in any other way persistently he could be blocked temporarily, and if he continued to do so after the temporary block expired he could be blocked indefinitely. You can see the blocking policy for more information on that. However, there is no way to do anything to him for only one offense. There is good news though, and that is that there is very little he can do either. Any vandalism he commits will be swiftly detected by the many users that are consistently on vandalism patrol, so there really isn't any reason to worry about him. As you can see, the vandalism on your page was reverted within a minute of being posted, and you can typically expect that sort of reaction time for any sort of egregious vandalism. By the way, when you post on talk pages in the future please remember to sign your post with ~~~~ (which the software automatically translates into your signature) so other people can identify both you and the time you posted.--Dycedarg ж 00:22, 6 February 2007 (UTC)

Hi Dycedarg, I noticed you changed a lot of entries under Category:International schools in India to Category:Indian International Schools. I actually made the same changes right before you did, and then noticed something that made me revert all the pages. The "X international schools" categories all list international schools that use the curriculum of country X, not international schools *in* country X. Look at Category:British international schools for an example of this. Few or none of the British international schools on the list are actually *in* the UK. Mapcat 05:02, 10 February 2007 (UTC)

Educational userboxes
You recently said "All the templates regarding...educational experience...are staying in template space." at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Scouting#WikiProject Scouting Userboxes. Yet you recently userfied {{User ISU Cyclone}}. Someone complained on my talkpage about it because my bot was changing links to it, and I quite agree with him. The education-related userboxes should stay in template space. Please put it back.--Dycedarg ж 16:10, 23 February 2007 (UTC)

Migrating nowhere
DyceBot has migrated a userbox to a non-existant location. There is no page UBX/milk2, which could present problems when transcluding. I have reverted my instance of the userbox back to user milk2.--CarrotMan 07:29, 24 February 2007 (UTC)
- Yeah, make sure that you check to make sure that the template that you're going to change is followed by a "}}" or "|". Prod Script
Thank you for making the script. I have made a sub page here User:Parker007/prod. My firefox doesn't work. It doesn't let me copy and paste. Due to a virus I got earlier on. I tested it with firefox, it works fine. With IE6 only the notify function does not work, but thats probably because I have google toolbar, and yahoo toolbar installed. Also on the edit history do you think you can remove the first 3 letters "JS:", please? And Don't notify keeps coming first. And when I move my mouse to notify, the prod tab is unselected. So can you move Notify before Don't notify? --Parker007 19:34, 1 March 2007 (UTC)

- Wow, I'm really sorry about this. I've now fixed it to only do that type of change in {{babel}}. Don't know why I didn't think of doing it before. Anyway, thanks for fixing it :-) —METS501 (talk) 06:39, 14 March 2007 (UTC)
Nobots
I had Jooler's userpage on my watchlist for an unrelated reason, and I noticed that you added the nobots tag to prevent your bot from editing his userpage. He already had {{bots|deny=DyceBot,MetsBot}} on his userpage before the last edit by MetsBot, which your bot ignored. If your bot is configured to comply with the bots template in the first place (which is the only case under which the nobots tag would work anyway) than this should have stopped your bot from editing his page. I think you should reexamine your bot's exemption code if it's really supposed to be compliant with the tags. If it's running Pywikipedia there's a patch that works perfectly, that's how I got it to work for my bot. On another note, if your bot is fully compliant with the tags I would recommend you put its userpage in Category:Exclusion compliant bots so people know.--Dycedarg ж 20:10, 17 March 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks for letting me know about the category. My bot is coded in c#, and there was an error in the code which I've fixed now to ignore pages marked with the templates. —METS501 (talk) 20:12, 17 March 2007 (UTC)

One problem I'm seeing with the bot
Sorry. I left this message on the bot talk page before I saw the note to leave it here. Thanks for cleaning up these changes. I hadn't even noticed! One thing to note is that I had a header on my user page that got changed unintentionally by the bot. Specifically, I had the following: {{userboxtop|Travel|right}} {{User travel}}
And BOTH instances of the word "Travel" got replaced by the bot:
{{userboxtop|:UBX/travel|right}} {{User:UBX/travel}}

Userbox migration
Hey, I noticed your bot at work doing a bunch of userbox migrations. I'm just wondering, what is the point? It's going to take hundreds of thousands of edits across all of the userpages to move everything over from including the old userboxes in template spaces to the new ones in User: repositories. It seems like this is of sufficiently low value that it just isn't worth the server strain. Who cares if some unmaintained userpages get some redlinks on them? --Cyde Weys 20:17, 21 April 2007 (UTC)
- Hm. If the users don't maintain their own userpages and are otherwise inactive, perhaps we should just be deleting or stubbing the userpages? --Gmaxwell 20:18, 21 April 2007 (UTC)
- Why? There is absolutely no point to doing this. We don't save server space (because it's completely impossible to delete anything on Wikipedia), and we don't expend anything else by keeping them. The database load necessary to go through deleting the pages of absentee users would be fairly extreme considering we lose nothing by leaving them.--Dycedarg ж 16:53, 23 April 2007 (UTC)
- Well, I can give you my opinion on why it works the way it does, and why I bother running the bot. Understand though, that Wikipedia:Userbox migration specifically states that all transclusions of the a userfied userbox must be migrated before it can be deleted, so perhaps this discussion should move there if you feel any actual change should occur. Anyway: What the userbox migration is attempting to accomplish is to fix the problem of userboxes in template space by moving them to user space. Some people don't like it, but are willing to go along with it if they don't have to do anything. I would not at all be surprised if upon our attempting to delete a userbox without migrating all instances of it people would be complaining all over the place that we're screwing up their user pages. And, essentially, we would be. Not everyone comes online all the time. And not everyone that does come online checks their userpage userbox by userbox to make sure that none have been migrated since last they decided to pay attention. Several times I've had people comment to me that they appreciate the bot because they just didn't notice that one of their userboxes changed. I don't think it would be entirely reasonable to force people to constantly check their userpages for userboxes that have been migrated because a few people feel it necessary to move completely uncontroversial, trivial userboxes out of template space for no reason at all. As far as the people who aren't around any more go: It would take my bot more server calls to check every page for recent activity before migrating than it does for it to just migrate all of them. It's all or nothing..--Dycedarg ж 16:53, 23 April 2007 (UTC)
You speak of server load, but what's really causing the largest amount of unnecessary server load is making tens of thousands of edits shepherding userboxes. It's not worth it. So what if people's userboxes change or are deleted? It's a wiki. Things happen. That's just the risk you run by transcluding other pages. You seem to act as if users have some sort of right for their userpage to be kept immaculate and unchanged over time. No such right exists. It's not necessary for normal users to constantly check their userpage to see what's changed; if it is necessary for someone to keep doing it often, maybe they should just stop using so many userboxes? And there's one huge problem with User:UBX: it's becoming a central repository of userboxes, which is exactly what caused the problem the last time. If it becomes too legitimate or official-looking, all of the controversial/divisive/inflammatory userboxes within it must be deleted just like they were with the old-style User templates. --Cyde Weys 00:51, 1 May 2007 (UTC)

No problem, it wasn't immediately obvious by my latest edit. That section was just a complete trainwreck. You've got premium content like this and this, which can be used for references but not for external links. There's a loads of links to something called "archiseek" which stores PDF files of seemingly unrelated content of unknown origin such as this which doesn't even mention Magee by name. Then there's this which doesn't even mention Magee, blogs, dead links and so on and so on. There's a couple of possibly useful links, but they should be used as references for content that's in the article or include content in the article. Thanks. - Heh, that's Huggle for you ;) WEBURIEDOURSECRETSINTHEGARDEN aka john lennon 20:19, 4 March 2008 (UTC)
Thank you I'll keep that in mind, I'll search out some excellent references and add them.--Arsenalrchamps (talk) 20:20, 4 March 2008 (UTC)
Re:70.171.198.102
That was due to an extremely weird bug in Huggle. Apparently as I've been running it a while vandalism that it found three hours ago finally popped up and then after reverting it reported the vandal as he had received a final warning, ignoring the fact that the reverted edit took place long before the final warning. In any case, please see WP:DTR. I've made over seventy edits to AIV with little to no error, and made significant contributions to Wikipedia:Guide to administrator intervention against vandalism early in its existence. I do not appreciate getting a condescending template message because my software acted up. I don't particularly blame you, as I'm not exactly well known and the situation sure looked like a newbie making a stupid mistake, but please try to pay at least some attention to the experience level of the people you template.--Dycedarg ж 05:37, 4 March 2008 (UTC)
- I am sorry that you took offence, and hope it is clear than none was intended. I do not remember encountering you before and so I had no idea if you were a new user or not. To be honest, I do not think that it is reasonable for you to expect me to determine how experienced you are before leaving you a message, in this situation. I also feel that you should not take offence simply because somebody left you a message with a template, regardless of whether I know your level of experience. You had already taken up my time, and probably that of others, by leaving at least one incorrect report - so expecting me to take more time to write you a note that pays due respect to your experience seems a bit much to ask. In other words, you choose to save time by using a tool that causes others more work, so don't be surprised if people save time notifying you of the fact by using templates. VP Bug
Sorry it looks like it's a bug in VP which has manifested itself in the last few days, I'd had a few until yesterday but now I'm getting them practically every rollback. I've stopped using it for now but apparently there's a new release soon so that should clear it.BigHairRef | Talk 00:33, 5 March 2008 (UTC)
User:71.53.197.196
I noticed that you reverted User:71.53.197.196's edits to Janet Huckabee. While I commend your efforts in fighting vandalism on Wikipedia, I would strongly urge that you issue a warning to this user, because that is the second time he vandalized that page in a span of a few minutes, the previous act having been revert by ClueBot. --TommyBoy (talk) 05:26, 5 March 2008 (UTC)
I see you use MiszaBot III to archive your talk page. Do you think you could give the setup on my talk page a look and see if I got it right? Thanks a lot. Grsz11 (talk) 05:39, 5 March 2008 (UTC)
- Sure, I would like that. I read it and wasnt sure how to do it. Also on a side note, how can I make a fancy signature? Grsz11 (talk) 05:54, 5 March 2008 (UTC)
- Sounds like a plan. I guess 50K sounds good, and I'll keep it at 30 days for now. Grsz11 (talk) 06:08, 5 March 2008 (UTC)
- And as for the signature, can it be changed under the preferences? Grsz11 (talk) 06:09, 5 March 2008 (UTC)
Thanks so much for the help! Grsz11 (talk) 06:23, 5 March 2008 (UTC) I'm having an awful time with the signature. I want "Grsz" to the user page in black, and "11" to the talk page in gold, but cant get it right. Any help? Grsz11 (talk) 06:32, 5 March 2008 (UTC)
- Awesome! Thanks! Grsz 11 06:37, 5 March 2008 (UTC)
Vandalism Warnings
I recieved your reply to my earlier message. While I respect that the decision to issue a vandalism warning is a judgement call decided on a case-by-case basis by the reverting editor, I believe that warnings should be issued in every case, which would result in the blocking of repeat offenders. In this case, a test edit warning would have been appropriate. --TommyBoy (talk) 11:19, 5 March 2008 (UTC)
Wikipedia, Uncyclopedia
Got confused. Thought Wikipedia was Uncyclopedia. 65.173.104.12 (talk) 03:48, 8 March 2008 (UTC)
- Over there, you could say that "Hillary Clinton ate Rush Limbaugh's 'balls' for lunch.", and that is funny, or that "Obama has a burqa picked to hide Hillary's face.", and that is also funny. Why not here ? You would'nt believe what is on Uncyclopedia. I've seen its "Featured Article" status. does that mean that Uncyclopedia will be deleted or that Uncyclopedia will delete Wikipedia ? 65.173.104.12 (talk) 04:07, 8 March 2008 (UTC)

Obama
While i will concede i should have place the body of my text in the bottom fundraising section you nothing i wrote was factually inaccurate or misleading. THe article is in its current form misleading because it says that " Obama has said he will not accept donations from federal lobbyists or political action committees during the campaign" yet there is clear evidence to the contrary. In light of the harsh criticism allowed on the hillary clinton page i feel that the bias on the Obama page is i feel that this saying that i am being misleading is unwarranted. re vandalism
how can i leave a reason for making a change. I deleted the segment i added because i felt that it would take more time to edit the existing fundraising segment than i have.

Dear Dycedarg, thank you for taking part in my RfB. As you may know, it was not passed by bureaucrats. |
