The Happy Wanderer

I added the extra information about the Happy Wanderer as I was the person who wrote the music down from the Parlophone label 78 with my son Christian, and it was performed at the Opening Night of the Llangollen Festival 2013. I would ask you to cite the Llangollen Festival Records for 2013. The two former members of the choir were overwhelmed by the gesture and plans are afoot to record it. The rights are currently held by Bosworth Music Publishers, but I have been unable to get hold of them yet apropos of the rights to record, which will be coming up.Llangollen International Festival Office will have details and can verify it. There were also reports in the local papers. It seems a bit extraordinary to have been the pianist and arranger and performer of a recital at such a prestigious event and be told I am not a reliable source, but I know what you mean!It was the anniversary of the beginning of the Festival in 1952 and was a surprise for the two representatives and the audience were ecstatic and demanded recordings which is why I am trying to get hold of Bosworth, Thanks- Eve — Preceding unsigned comment added by Evelynicholson (talkcontribs) 08:23, 8 August 2013 (UTC)

If it makes you feel better, no other Wikipedia editor is considered a reliable source either to the best of my knowledge, as information that we include in articles needs to have been published. :) DonIago (talk) 12:49, 8 August 2013 (UTC)

Why?

Why did you delete the section I wrote on weapons used in Tremors 2? — Preceding unsigned comment added by John Mortimore (talkcontribs) 13:59, 13 August 2013 (UTC)

Because it seemed like WP:TRIVIA to me, as I wrote in the edit summary. The specific guns used have no bearing on the plot, and I doubt any reliable third-party sources have taken note of it...but if I'm wrong, then including them as references would be a great help. If you disagree you're welcome to start a discussion at the article's Talk page. DonIago (talk) 14:04, 13 August 2013 (UTC)

Secondary Flickr RFC

This is a message to let you know that an RfC you participated in at Talk:Flickr ended with the closing admin suggesting that it be reopened as a simple poll of several possible wordings. This new RfC can be found at Talk:Flickr#RfC:_Weight_given_to_redesign should you wish to participate. --McGeddon (talk) 12:50, 16 August 2013 (UTC)

Oh joy. :p Well, I'll take a look at it and chime in if I feel I have anything constructive to add. Thanks for letting me know! DonIago (talk) 12:52, 16 August 2013 (UTC)

Marvin (HGttG)

You removed my edit of Marvin from the Hitchhikers guide to the Galaxy. I don't know if you have seen the movie or read the book but he is definitely depressed, not paranoid. I've updated the articles talk page and edited it back to say he is depressed. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 94.8.216.49 (talk) 15:47, 17 August 2013 (UTC)

I've replied there. Thanks for letting me know! DonIago (talk) 16:08, 17 August 2013 (UTC)

Changes to SuggestBot's suggestions

We have changed the number of suggested articles and which categories they are selected from. The number of stubs has been greatly reduced, the number of articles needing sources doubled, and two new categories added (orphans and unencyclopaedic articles). We have also modified the layout of the suggestions and added sortable columns with various types of information about each article. The first two columns are:

Views/Day
Daily average number of views an article's had over the past 14 days.
Quality
Predicted article quality on a 1- to 3-star scale. Placing your cursor over the stars should give you a pop-up describing the article's quality (Low/Medium/High), current assessment class, and predicted assessment class.

The method we use to predict article quality also allows us to assess whether an article might need specific types of work in order to improve its quality. The work needed might not correspond to cleanup tags added to the article, since our method is not based on those. We have added five columns reflecting this work assessment, where a red X indicates improvement is needed. Placing your cursor over an X should give you a pop-up with a short description of the work needed. The five columns seek to answer the following five questions:

Content
Is more content needed?
Headings
Does this article have an appropriate section structure?
Images
Is the number of illustrative images about right?
Links
Does this article link to enough other Wikipedia articles?
Sources
For its length, is there an appropriate number of citations to sources in this article?

SuggestBot picks articles in a number of ways based on other articles you've edited, including straight text similarity, following wikilinks, and matching your editing patterns against those of other Wikipedians. It tries to recommend only articles that other Wikipedians have marked as needing work. Gran2

I sort of have a problem with user Gran2. He removed the cast section of the movie Jingle All the Way. I reverted that edit. Then he reverts back with this saying on the edit summary right here. This is what he said to me on my talk page and I replied on his talk page with my replies. I know that I sometimes bend Wikipedia policies, but does some of his sayings sound uncivil to you? Check it out and find out what you think. BattleshipMan (talk) 01:51, 19 August 2013 (UTC)

I'll preface this by noting that I'm unfamiliar with this film and everything I'm saying is intended to apply to the general concept of a Cast list rather than the specifics regarding this film.
Regarding the Cast list itself...technically any such list shouldn't be just a barebones listing of the cast; we don't usually take issue with it and I think it's a bit petty to remove it, but there's nothing stipulating that one must be included, especially if the cast information is available in a different manner. I'd have to recommend discussing that at WT:FILM if you want a general consensus or the film's Talk page if you're only concerned with this specific case.
As to the rest, I think it would have been vastly preferable to include all of the discussion on one page instead of breaking it out as has happened. Whoever started that should have been gently asked to respond at the origination point; does anyone want to have to look at multiple pages to follow one conversation?
In any case, I'm glad you felt you could come to me for an opinion on this, and I'm especially glad that you did so rather than escalating this into (more of) an edit-warring situation, but I'm afraid I don't see any incivility here. I think Gran2 is trying to operate in good faith, as are you; you're both just having a disagreement where I think Gran2's viewpoint is technically correct (and as a literalist I often fall on that side of the coin myself) but the inclusion of the Cast in general shouldn't be considered an issue. Cheers. DonIago (talk) 14:33, 19 August 2013 (UTC)

Citizen Kane, Rosebud in Popular Culture

Hello, and thank you for your message. I hope I'm doing this right, I'm not used to Wikipedia talk. I was watching the Columbo episode mentioning the Rosebud sled this afternoon, and, when I noticed that the mention to it was missing to the section on popular culture regarding Rosebud, I decided to add it. From your message I understand that I should have added a reference. The IMDB synopsis does quite clearly mention the central role of Rosebud in the plot. Can I reinsert my edit and add a footnote with the link to the synopsis? This is the link: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0077352/synopsis. Thank you, Vsineau

Hi there Vsineau, thanks for contacting me. A couple of notes first - new Talk threads should generally go at the bottom of the Talk page in question...this makes it easier for anyone monitoring the page to find added material. Also, it's considered best practice to sign your comments as well, which you can do by adding four tildes (~) to the end of your post.
Unfortunately, IMDb in general is not considered a reliable source because anyone can edit it (for the same reason we can't use Wikipedia articles as sources in other WP articles). This is discussed in more detail at WP:RS/IMDb.
Additionally, when adding a pop culture item, beyond focusing on the existence of it, we should also focus on why/how it's considered significant. The best way to do this is by including a third-party source that discusses the pop culture item in some manner. What we really want to avoid doing is adding huge lists of alleged pop culture items to articles. For instance, The Simpsons has tons of pop culture references, but how many of them really matter in the grand scheme of things? This is discussed in some detail at WP:IPC.
I hope this helps! Happy editing! DonIago (talk) 16:00, 19 August 2013 (UTC)

Yo Doniago

How do you add stuff like this; " DonIago (talk) 21:47, 25 July 2013 (UTC)" when I write a comment? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mbrother64 (talkcontribs)

Add four tildes (~) at the end of your post. DonIago (talk) 21:53, 22 August 2013 (UTC)

Umm, okay. I'll try. Mbrother64 (talk) 15:55, 26 August 2013 (UTC)

Cool, it worked. Where is that symbol on my keyboard though? Ive only copied and pastied it. Mbrother64 (talk) 15:58, 26 August 2013 (UTC)

I think it's usually in the upper-left corner. At least, that's where I'm used to seeing it. DonIago (talk) 16:21, 26 August 2013 (UTC)

Clear and Present Danger

Why have you deleted my text about the origin of the film title? Do you think it's trivia? Sagehorn (talk) 21:23, 10 September 2013 (UTC)

Nope. I think it's original research. You should provide a reliable source for this. DonIago (talk) 04:18, 11 September 2013 (UTC)

Fair enough. :) I've gone ahead and done so since that article was tagged for needing sources back in 2009. DonIago (talk) 15:59, 13 September 2013 (UTC)
