Help me! edit

Is it possible to load an article in my sandbox and customize that article to be my new article? The article I intend to write is Synchronous Link Control an ATA/IATA communication protocol used by airlines and the the article I intend to use as base to my article is Synchronous Data Link Control an IBM's protocol.

Airliner 15:41, 31 October 2015 (UTC)

Yes, since you are beginning a new article from scratch presumably using the IBM protocol as a sort of "template", you have at least two good options: (1) You can load the template article to your sandbox (or any subpage you want to create and name), and (2) you can work on the new article in the Draft namespace. If it were me, I would take the second option, because there are readily available volunteers that can help you along the way. Pleasant pathways, Paine  16:53, 31 October 2015 (UTC)Reply

Help you with missing sub-heading.

Navigating through Wikipedia, full URL: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Template_messages @ sub-heading Article-related namespace, table 3, the target-links at first level bulleted list work as intended, but the second level bulleted items appear to refer to missing sub-headings. Here is their URLs:

  • Hi DomFerreira01, I replied to your other request for help and moved your draft to Draft:Synchronous Link Control. To me it looks as if the above questions relates to the concept of templates, and you may have misunderstood when advised that you could use Synchronous Data Link Control as a template. I'll close the request for now. Anything you need, just give me a shout. Happy editing. Sam Sailor Talk! 08:17, 2 November 2015 (UTC)Reply
  • OK, I re-read your message. Yes, you are right, you are perfectly right, some of the links to sections are not working, and your assumption seems valid: likely someone removed them at some point without thinking about it. Using {{Anchor}} would be a way to sort it, I guess. Personally it's not a task I'm going to do myself right away. I also think we can live - at least for the moment - with the links just ending up on the top of the pages in question. Sam Sailor Talk! 15:59, 2 November 2015 (UTC)Reply

YDreams edit

Boa noite Ferreira, I hope this find you well.

On Wikipedia articles can be nominated for deletion. This takes place at WP:AFD. I stumbled across YDreams, a portuguese company. The articles has been nominated for deletion. I am rather confident with the amounts of source I can see, that this article could be rescued from deletion, if I spoke Portuguese. If you can find sources, e.g. links to good newspaper articles, that can be used to meet the notability guideline WP:CORP, I will gladly help with citation formatting. Let me know what you think. Speedy deletion nomination of AX.25 (Airline) edit

Hello DomFerreira01,

I wanted to let you know that I just tagged AX.25 (Airline) for deletion, because it doesn't appear to contain any encyclopedic content. Take a look at our suggestions for essential content in short articles to learn what should be included.

If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to work on it, you can contest this deletion, but please don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions. Keith 18:05, 5 November 2015 (UTC)Reply

Your signature edit

Hi. It's fine to have a custom signature, but please see WP:SIGLINK: "Signatures must include at least one direct internal link to your user page, user talk page, or contributions page." A link to the talk page is usual, as that makes it easy for anyone to contact you. Regards, JohnCD (talk) 17:22, 6 November 2015 (UTC)Reply

Internet Explorer error in page User profile edit

In my "User profile" the last item under <legend>Internationalisation</legend> is a hyperlink "More language settings" which generates URL "https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Preferences#"

The HTML in the neighborhood of the hyperlink reads (Line 494):
</td></tr><tr><td colspan="2" class="htmlform-tip">Setting this preference is optional. The software uses its value to address you and to mention you to others using the appropriate grammatical gender. This information will be public.</td></tr><tr class="mw-htmlform-field-HTMLInfoField"><td class="mw-label"><label></label></td><td class="mw-input"><a id='uls-preferences-link' href='#'></a> </td></tr> </tbody></table> </fieldset>

Internet Explorer generates an "error in page" whennever I activate that link which in turn produces the following details:

You'll want to either ask about that at WP:VP/T where the most tech-savvy editors hang out, or report the bug via Phabriator. Huon (talk) 19:33, 9 November 2015 (UTC)Reply
It works OK for me, both on Firefox and IE, though my IE (11.0.24) is probably not up-to-date. It produces a pop-up box - do you have popups disabled somehow? JohnCD (talk) 20:05, 9 November 2015 (UTC)Reply
Yes, it might be the IE "Pop-up Blocker" – click on the "Tools" menu, then hover your mouse over "Pop-up Blocker". To the right there are two choices: the top choice turns Pop-up Blocker on or off. If it is on, then click the settings choice. I don't have the problem you describe – when I click the "More language settings" link, I see the language pop-up that is meant to be seen. In the settings choice box, I don't "allow" Wikipedia, and yet I still see the pop-up. Below the "allow" box we read, "Notifications and blocking level" – both notification boxes are "checked", and my blocking level is set to "Medium: Block most automatic popups". Those are the settings that work for me to allow the popup when I click the "More language settings" link. If those settings don't work for you, then please let us know, and we can continue to troubleshoot this with you. I should mention that I also use IE 11 like JohnCD above. If you use another version, then the above may not work for you. In that case, you might try "Compatibility View" if your browser supports it. Be prosperous! Paine  20:23, 9 November 2015 (UTC)Reply

Turning Popup blocker on or off had no effect on the problem. Besides Error on page also occurs IE8 reports mixed content https: and http:as shown below:
Webpage error details User Agent: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 8.0; Windows NT 5.1; Trident/4.0; .NET CLR 2.0.50727; InfoPath.2; .NET CLR 3.0.4506.2152; .NET CLR 3.5.30729; .NET4.0C) Timestamp: Mon, 9 Nov 2015 21:39:52 UTC Message: Expected identifier, string or number Line: 39 Char: 18 Code: 0 URI: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/load.php?debug=false&lang=en&modules=ext.uls.i18n%2Cime%2Clanguagenames%2Cmediawiki%2Cmessages%7Cjquery.i18n%2Cime%2Culs%7Cjquery.uls.data%2Cgrid&skin=vector&version=2e749bd51fef

The problem seems to be related to load.php Line: 39 Char: 18.

Airliner (Talk) 21:47, 9 November 2015 (UTC)Reply

I've taken Huon's advice and opened a ticket at Wikipedia:Village pump (technical)/Archive 141#Error page on your behalf. Hopefully, that will generate the fix we need. In the future you should know that anyone (registered users) can open tickets at the Village pump when needed.  Paine  05:13, 10 November 2015 (UTC)Reply

Adminisrator attention needed: I know there is ticket open to address this problem. I belived we are dealing wikimedia bug related to wikidata regarding my user account. I also created an user account on pt.wikipedia.org and similar problems also occurs there. It seems I don't have the ability to create interwiki links. Can sysop users check my account (user profile) to see if everything is in order?

This is the last Error on page I got:
Message: Object doesn't support this property or method Line: 28 Char: 721 Code: 0 URI: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:DomFerreira01
Airliner (Talk) 14:52, 11 November 2015 (UTC)Reply

I'm afraid you'll have to wait for the technical people to deal with this. The software provides a Wikipedia administrator with links to do things such as blocking accounts, deleting articles, and so on, but an administrator has no more ability to deal with technical issues such as software bugs than any other editor. FYI: The task in Phabricator has been closed and will be deployed with the MediaWiki 1.26 release within the next few days. Be prosperous! Paine  09:48, 21 November 2015 (UTC)Reply

Just curious, Dom, is this working for you yet? or are you still getting the error page?  Paine  05:37, 24 November 2015 (UTC)Reply

New info needed edit

again. I have a couple of request (favors). Since I don't know any template saying Critisize me I ask anyone to review my user page and flag any possible violations of Wikipedia rules even though they might be acceptable in a user page. 2-) Can you also check my user page at pt:User:DomFerreira01. I tried to interwiki both pages and failed. 3-) Can anyone create a google translation of the article Monkey see, monkey do in the portuguese wikipedia. I will refine it later. 4-) Regarding the Phabricator ticket I agree with the sugestion that support to IE8 should be dropped. I switched to Chrome and in few days I will have a new PC with Windows 10 installed. In few days I will be free from Windows XP primitiveness. Please ignore any red links and the Category:Wikipedian to be should not be created.

Airliner (Talk) 23:41, 21 November 2015 (UTC)Reply

In order...
  1. That's not a template, it's just a piped link to a user's talk page. Your userpage looks fine to me.
  2. We have no control in what happens at pt-wiki.
  3. You'd have to do that yourself, or request it be done at whatever the pt version of the Requested Articles page is.
  4. Good for you?
