Welcome

edit

Hello, Americasstudies, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions.

I notice that one of the first articles you edited appears to be dealing with a topic with which you may have a conflict of interest. In other words, you may find it difficult to write about that topic in a neutral and objective way, because you are, work for, or represent, the subject of that article. Your recent contributions may have already been undone for this very reason.

To reduce the chances of your contributions being undone, you might like to draft your revised article before submission, and then ask me or any other editor to proofread it. To start creating a draft article, just click your user name at the top of the screen when you are logged in, and edit that page as you would any other. If the page you created has already been deleted from Wikipedia, but you want to save the content from it to use for that draft, don't hesitate to ask anyone from this list and they will copy it to your user page.

The one firm rule we do have in connection with conflicts of interest is that accounts used by more than one person will unfortunately be blocked from editing. It is also worth noting that Wikipedia generally does not allow editors to have usernames which specifically link them to one company or corporation. If your username does have such a name, it would be advisable for you to request a change of username.

If you are stuck, and looking for help, please come to the New contributors' help page, where experienced Wikipedians can answer any queries you have! You can also just type {{helpme}} on your user page, and someone will show up shortly to answer your questions. Here are a few other good links for newcomers:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and the date. If you have any questions, check out Wikipedia:Where to ask a question or ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome! Pharaoh of the Wizards (talk) 17:37, 31 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of User:Americasstudies

edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on User:Americasstudies, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become an encyclopedia article. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Business for more information.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, contest the deletion by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". Doing so will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. Your username

edit

As reviewing administrator, I have declined the speedy deletion, because I do not think your user page is promotional, and it makes clear that you are an individual. However, your username is a cause for concern, implying, in conjunction with this edit, that you are editing on behalf of americasstudies.com. Wikipedia's WP:Username policy does not allow usernames that are those of groups or organizations. May I invite to you change your username to something not associated with any organization? You can do that easily at WP:CHU - read down to the bottom of that page, click on "Simple", and fill in the form there.

Please also read the guidelines WP:Conflict of interest and WP:Best practices for editors with conflicts of interest.

Regards, JohnCD (talk) 18:27, 31 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

Welcome to Wikipedia. Because we have a policy against usernames that give the impression that the account represents a group, organization or website, I have blocked this account; please take a moment to create a new account with a username that represents only you. You should also read our conflict of interest guideline and be aware that promotional editing is not acceptable regardless of what username you choose. If your username doesn't represent a group, organization or website, you may appeal this username block by adding the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}} below this notice. Thank you.

Request reason:

I wish to appeal the block on my page as every edit that I have made on Wikipedia is due to my specialist knowledge in those areas. I do not represent any organisation or company. The website www.americasstudies.com is my own website, owned be me solely and is an academic profile and blog that is not-for-profit. The username Americasstudies reflects on my identity as an academic researcher and scholar who brings specialist knowledge to Wikipedia. I hope that the block on my username and editing abilities will be removed so I can continue to contribute fact-based knowledge that is certainly not for the purpose of any personal gain. Additionally, I have noticed that two additions I made to the Cherríe Moraga page have been removed. Both of these are fact-based knowledge: Details of her most recent publication and details of one of her recent lectures at an international conference. The removal of these constitute a removal of interesting and relevant biographical and bibliographical knowledge about this figure. These additions were not made for any personal benefit but to expand the factual details about Moraga. The fact that one of the links added is from my website is in no way a form of advertising. The link is for a web page that again gives only fact-based information about an event that Moraga was part of.

Accept reason:

Unblocked on the account owner's promise that no spamming will occur. --Chris (talk) 19:02, 1 February 2012 (UTC)Reply

Hi, I agree that your username is probably can't be considered as promotion of your personal website, and I can unblock you if you promise not to add links to it to articles, in accordance with our conflict of interest policy which says that we shouldn't add links to sites we're closely associated with. Deal? Max Semenik (talk) 16:05, 1 February 2012 (UTC)Reply

From the Cables of Genocide: Poems on Love and Hunger moved to draftspace

edit

An article you recently created, From the Cables of Genocide: Poems on Love and Hunger, does not have enough sources and citations as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. signed, Rosguill talk 21:45, 20 May 2019 (UTC)Reply
