Numenius of Heraclea moved to draftspace

edit

An article you recently created, Numenius of Heraclea, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. Your recent articles on people in Athenaeus

edit

Hello Digitalphilologist, it's nice to see a new user interested in the classical world. You'll have seen that some of your articles on people in Athenaeus were removed from the mainspace. There is currently a discussion going on as to how these articles might remain published in the future (see Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Leonides of Elis). I would be grateful if you could let us know what you think. Best, Modussiccandi (talk) 19:58, 28 February 2021 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for creating Characters of the Deipnosophistae. I'd recommend that you flesh out the entries for individual characters, ideally with precise references to secondary sources. Primary sources can occasionally be used, but generally most of the information on here should come from secondary sources. Best, Modussiccandi (talk) 11:18, 1 March 2021 (UTC)Reply

Advice

edit

I've kept an eye on Characters of the Deipnosophistae. Here's a small tip that will prevent the page's reference section from getting too long: you should consider establishing Baldwin (1977) as a bibliographical entry and then refer to it with "Author (date) page number" only. If you're not sure how to do this, have a look at G. E. L. Owen, a page I recently brought to Good Article status. Best, Modussiccandi (talk) 12:10, 2 March 2021 (UTC)Reply

Characters of the Deipnosophistae, again

edit

Hi Digitalphilologist, it's me again. I've seen that you removed the content that was merged from Leonides of Elis form the Characters of the Deipnosophistae article. May I ask why you did this? I thought the content added something to the article. In fact, I think each of the characters should be described in more detail than is currently the case. You see, Wikipedia is not a directory of names in ancient literature and, unless you provide more than the characters' names and occupations, I'm not sure this article needs to exist in its current form. Best, Modussiccandi (talk) 16:15, 8 March 2021 (UTC)Reply

I edited it because it was necessary to uniform the content (citation style etc.) to the content of the other characters of the new article. The information is the same and this is the reason why we decided to delete the old article and create a new one with the other characters of the Deipnosophists. The article needs to exist and is going to be expanded with more information.

I see that the article has been deleted and only very few pieces of information have been inserted into Deipnosophistae#Characters. I think that names in ancient Greek and references to ancient sources should be preserved. I agreed on the deletion of the independent article, but not on the complete removal of what was written.
