Can you do a rough re-review of n360. I think I have fixed the concerns you have. Therefore, I can fix any further concerns you have before you make a decision at the end of the week. --Tyw7‍ ‍‍ (TalkContributions) Leading Innovations >>> 16:12, 20 May 2009 (UTC)

ROI (business) vs. rate_of_return

ROI is such a commonly used term in business (at least in my experience), the current "rate of return / ROI" content is very much financial / mathematical in nature. Amdg47 (talk) 19:00, 22 May 2009 (UTC)

Well, I think the article used to be more "business-like" in nature, but the contents was merged into ROR. See [1]. That said, if you want to continue expanding on ROI (business), I shall not object. decltype (talk) 19:08, 22 May 2009 (UTC)

A7 taggings

  Resolved

Hi there. I noticed you use your alternative account to tag stuff for speedy deletion. As a courtesy to the creators and admins alike, might I suggest you do not use {{db-a7}} but rather {{db-person}}, {{db-band}}, {{db-club}}, {{db-inc}} or {{db-web}} where possible? It allows more descriptive deletion reasons to be pre-filled. Regards SoWhy 14:36, 28 May 2009 (UTC)

Oh, I'm terribly sorry about that. It's actually just laziness on my part, since all the tags and summaries are auto-generated, and I haven't gotten around to making different tags for different A7's. I shall fix it as soon as possible. I had no idea about the deletion reasons though, so I have to plead ignorance on that point. auto / decltype (talk) 18:09, 28 May 2009 (UTC)

Nordic Council's Literature Prize

  Resolved

Appreciate your implementing the Nordic Council's Literature Prize page change allowing sorting by author's last name.

You indicated on the talk page, "If you use this as a reading list, you are missing out on some of the finest literature to ever come out of Scandinavia." Presume you're not refering to the older standard works like those by Ibsen, Bjørnson, Kielland, Lie, Garborg, Hamsun, and Undset. I'd be interested in your recommendations on one or two pieces of relatively recent and outstanding Scandinavian literature.

Thanks - Williamborg (Bill) 03:16, 30 May 2009 (UTC)

Sure. You may or may not be familiar with these already:
Very much appreciate you recommendations. Never read anything by either Fredriksson or Jacobsen.
I'd previously found Haff using the sortable list in the Norwegian Critics Prize for Literature article. Have Skammen (in the English translation as Shame) by Haff & agree it was well written. If Fredriksson and Jacobsen are as good, finding copies of their works is a must. Thanks!

Considering yourself for a mop?

Just wondering, as I am quite curious at times, whether you have plans for adminship any time soon? Hope you do not mind me asking this. Regards SoWhy 14:35, 12 June 2009 (UTC)

If that question is an indication of what I think it is an indication of, namely that you do not consider me entirely unsuitable for the job, then I definitely do not mind it. Especially coming from someone like yourself.
I can't deny that I've played with the thought of putting myself forward for consideration. That said, the brutal start of Kingpin13's RfA, (it seems to be going better now, though) has had a somewhat chilling effect, since he has a similar "track record" as me, and I found that I myself couldn't support him in good conscience (I haven't fully decided yet, though).
On the other hand, if your question was purely out of curiosity and nothing else, then I do mind you asking, because that would be rather cruel :) decltype (talk) 15:10, 12 June 2009 (UTC)
I'm not that cruel, whatever some people might say about me behind my back
So yes, I do think you would make a great admin, you offer clueful input in many debates I have seen and are friendly and helpful. Unlike Kingpin13, your editing history is not based solely around automated edits and consists of much discussion and article writing (I've noticed you got 3-4 GAs to your credit which is more than I ever got^^), so I do not see a comparison there. The only thing that might get you opposes imho is that you have started only 3 months ago to be more prolific and some people might be concerned that you have not got the necessary experience yet for the mop. On the other hand, I passed RFA beginning of October 08 and started to be more prolific only in June/July 08, so it's not impossible at all (just don't have any "evil" userboxes and you should be fine  ). But since I'm quite obviously showing traits of "fanboy"-behavior, I might not be able to assess you objectively. I do think you should consider it very strongly and should ask for some experienced admins to review you with this "goal" in mind. Juliancolton, Pedro, I'm Spartacus! or Dweller come to mind for example. Just tell them I sent you if they need someone to blame for the work this causes.^^ Regards SoWhy 15:25, 12 June 2009 (UTC)
I'll definitely do that. Still, I would have been very happy to be nominated by you. I can't help but think that the FT "incident" has made you more cautious about nominating, and I don't blame you for that, but the outcome was definitely not your fault, and I have no skeletons. Really! :) But either way, I am very, very grateful for your encouragement. decltype (talk) 16:15, 12 June 2009 (UTC)
Actually, I'd nominate you, not a problem, but I thought you might not want to be "tarnished" by that seeing that "incident" you mention. I just think further evaluation about whether you should run now can only provided by someone who has evaluated more than 3 candidates as I did. Regards SoWhy 16:33, 12 June 2009 (UTC)
Nothing could be further from the truth. Still, I'm sure you're right, getting a third opinion from someone completely uninvolved wouldn't hurt. decltype (talk) 16:58, 12 June 2009 (UTC)
Nice to hear that. But still, as you agree, we have probably interacted too much for me to be completely objective (although I try to be of course). Let's see what someone uninvolved thinks. Once you decide to go for it, leave me a note and I'll nom you if you like. Regards SoWhy 17:27, 12 June 2009 (UTC)

re: Content creation

Hi there Decltype, the article I was talking about in my reply was Danny MacAskill. But I don't really have loads of content edits such as that. As I've never actually made a list of my content edits, and I've never really thought that making one was a constructive way to spend my time, there isn't a very easy way of sifting my few hundred gnomish content edits from my tens of thousands of huggle edits. Thus, I didn't reply to your question, and I don't except any of the !voters to do the task of finding my content edits, when I myself find it too daunting. But I can let you know the kind of edits that I do. As I said earlier, most of my edits are gnomish. Something which I like to do is fix references (just stuff like naming them, removing white space, actually adding them in etc.), I've done some typo/grammar fixing (nothing really interesting), removing (dare I say that word? ;D) POVs, I love disambigs and creating them (although normally I tend to add to them, and fix the new ones coming in). Sorry that I can't provide a better (shorter ;D) answer with some actual links, thus me replying here rather then on the RfA page (if you like, feel free to add this there, but I don't think it's worth it). Cheers - Kingpin13 (talk) 17:49, 12 June 2009 (UTC)

Hello! Nice to meet you! I have one quick question: on your userpage, it says "decltype is an ...They made their first edit contribution on December...". are you multiple editors? --Airplaneman (talk) 15:36, 14 June 2009 (UTC)

I'd say it's a singular they - usually used when not willing to reveal the gender or if gender is unknown to avoid mis-labeling. ;-) SoWhy 15:46, 14 June 2009 (UTC)

(edit conflict, but yeah, he's right)

Hi, Airplaneman, nice to meet you too! How did you find me, by the way?
I sometimes use something that is called singular they. The reason for this is to make the language gender neutral. That is, instead of writing "He or she", I write "they", and similarly "their, them", etc.. However, this is regarded as somewhat "controversial". Many consider it to be poor style, and/or confusing. Especially those who speak English as a second language, such as myself, may not be familiar with this usage. For these reasons, I do not use it within article space, only on talk pages and discussion pages. Hope that helps. Oh, and nice userpage, by the way :) decltype (talk) 15:47, 14 June 2009 (UTC)
Thanks :). Sorry I didn't reply- I forgot to watch the page. I think I found you when I was doing old-style vandal hunting on the recent changes page (my ancient computer probably cannot handle Huggle or any other tool- it'd crash. Good thing I'm getting a new one soon!) I totally understand the gender neutral thing and the singular they. That's something new I learned! I can't do that- I'm Airplaneman, not Airplanewoman :D. See you around --Airplaneman (talk) 20:34, 19 June 2009 (UTC)
That's alright. After some further contemplation, I decided to recast the sentence in its entirety, using the first person. Good luck with getting a new computer. I don't think Huggle is particularly resource demanding, though. If you can't get it to work, there's probably just some other problem that's easy to fix. Regards, decltype (talk) 10:45, 20 June 2009 (UTC)
OK, thanks!--Airplaneman (talk) 01:01, 21 June 2009 (UTC)

WelcomeBot

  Resolved

Hello, decltype! I just had something like a brainwave or something. I was thinking about how to welcome new users- I looked at the logs and all of their talk pages were redlink. I welcomed about 10 of them. Then I thought about programmaing a bot to do the repetitive task of welcoming new users- WelcomeBot. You look like a computer person, so what do you think? (I have no clue how to program, except in BASIC, and that knowledge is only basic :D). Thank you, Airplaneman (talk) 00:59, 21 June 2009 (UTC)

Hi again! I guess I can't escape the fact that I'm a "computer person", not sure if I look like one though. The idea of a welcoming bot has been proposed a few times in the past. For example: here, here and here. From what I can see, the main reason that no such bot exists, is the general concern that a bot welcome is unpersonal, and takes away the point of welcoming, namely that you are given a warm greeting by a real person when you start editing. Indeed, some people (User:Chzz comes to mind) even that their welcome is not coming from a bot. So I think such a bot is unlikely to gain approval. However, there is a FireFox script called Friendly that will make welcoming quicker and easier. I recommend installing that. Regards, decltype (talk) 01:24, 21 June 2009 (UTC)
Oh, I see. I guess I dodn't do my research :). I installed Freindly and it works great! Thanks so much for your help!--Airplaneman (talk) 18:52, 21 June 2009 (UTC)

Colby Curtin

Well, I had a go at tidying the article (now parked at the top of the talk page). I wouldn't mind if it was re-instated.  HWV258  03:20, 22 June 2009 (UTC)

Honestly, I don't know what to tell you. When I encountered the article, I looked for sources, and sure enough, the story was widely reported. However, I was simply unable to rewrite the article in a way that would justify its inclusion in Wikipedia. It is a touching story, but at the same time, I think it is a clear-cut case of WP:BLP1E, and it seems as if stories like these are being spread all over the world without the help of Wikipedia.
However, if you believe otherwise, I welcome you to reinstate the article. In that case, I think it'd be best to make the article undergo a deletion discussion to get a wider opinion on whether the subject does meet our guidelines for inclusion. decltype (talk) 04:02, 22 June 2009 (UTC)
I understand. The problem with the current situation is that the Colby Curtin article redirects to an article that doesn't mention her (which I believe is confusing). Perhaps the article text could go as a section in the "Up" article (however I suspect that would lead to resistance). Maybe we could leave it for a week and see if anything else transpires? Cheers.  HWV258  04:35, 22 June 2009 (UTC)

Almost all of the time I agree with your taggings. Even so, I would have simply cut down, rather than tagged the first version of the article. Regards, decltype (talk) 11:32, 24 June 2009 (UTC)

Redlink on your userpage

How come there is a redlink on your userpage? I can't find any evidence that there ever was a WP:WIASA page after trying several variants of the title; is this a page you're planning to create? -- Soap Talk/Contributions 15:41, 24 June 2009 (UTC)

Well, my user page is based on a Portal template. Portals often feature "selected articles" instead of "featured articles" or "good articles". The criteria for good and featured articles can be found through WP:WIAGA and WP:WIAFA. Of course, the criteria for selecting articles for my own user page are completely arbitrary and decided by me, but if such a guideline existed, it would probably be reachable through WP:WIASA ("What Is A Selected Article"). Hope that makes sense. decltype (talk) 15:49, 24 June 2009 (UTC)

CSD helper

Hi there decltype. I know that you just modified this script, rather than create it (I half followed the discussion on SoWhy's talk page). But I just thought I'd check if it was okay for me to try it out (I might not keep it), and if I do, would it be worth creating my own page for it (i.e. creating User:Kingpin13/csdhelper.js, and than add ImportScript('User:Kingpin13/csdhelper.js') rather than adding ImportScript('User:Decltype/csdhelper.js')), if you're planning to change if you get adminship (which you seem to by heading towards :D). Good luck with the RfA. - Kingpin13 (talk) 20:10, 24 June 2009 (UTC)

I suggest you use importScript('User:Ale_jrb/Scripts/csdhelper.js'); instead, which is the original version and which supports non-admin users fully now and will be updated by its creator unlike decltype's version (I, too, stopped using my own version). Regards SoWhy 20:14, 24 June 2009 (UTC)
I wasn't aware that it had been changed to support non-admins. Thanks for the suggestion, will do :) - Kingpin13 (talk) 20:15, 24 June 2009 (UTC)
Yep, I would definitely go with Alex' updated version. I only use my own version because I can't get it to work on IE7. decltype (talk) 20:20, 24 June 2009 (UTC)
Hmm.... I seem to be having problems (I'm using IE8 at the mo), I also have Google Chrome installed on this computer, so I'm just going to check it's not something else. Else I'll probably end up using yours, again if you don't have a problem witht that :) - Kingpin13 (talk) 20:24, 24 June 2009 (UTC)
Yup, works fine in Chrome. So I'm gonna create User:Kingpin13/csdhelper.js now, with a copy of your version (which seems to work in IE8). Cheers - Kingpin13 (talk) 20:28, 24 June 2009 (UTC)
Okay, not a problem :) decltype (talk) 20:32, 24 June 2009 (UTC)

Fix link

I hope you don't mind this. I have never taken the liberty to edit someone's userpage, but since you gave your explicit permission, I went ahead - even though I felt so naughty after I clicked "Save page". shirulashem (talk) 01:26, 26 June 2009 (UTC)

Ah, good catch. Thanks! decltype (talk) 05:43, 26 June 2009 (UTC)

contested PROD- reason?

Can you provide the rationale for contesting prod on Roguing? In other words, can you post the rationale to Talk:Roguing? I'm not complaining about having it contested, I just want to see your rationale. Thanks! tedder (talk) 09:33, 26 June 2009 (UTC)

I'd be happy to, just give me a few seconds. But again, feel free to AfD. Regards, decltype (talk) 09:46, 26 June 2009 (UTC)
I see your reasoning now- thanks! And no problem, I'm more than happy to have it stay- I was just curious, and I even posted to WPPFARM because I thought CSB might be an issue. tedder (talk) 12:42, 26 June 2009 (UTC)
Okay, great. Of course, the CSB is just my personal opinion and not a valid reason to delete or not. decltype (talk) 13:43, 26 June 2009 (UTC)
Indeed- but I do agree with it. My point was that I have so little knowledge in the area that I don't mind being wrong.. I'm more than happy to have someone disagree with me- sort of like the WP:BRD process. tedder (talk) 15:43, 26 June 2009 (UTC)
