April 2019 edit

  Hello and welcome to Wikipedia. When you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion (but never when editing articles), please be sure to sign your posts. There are two ways to do this. Either:

  1. Add four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment, or
  2. With the cursor positioned at the end of your comment, click on the signature button   located above the edit window.

This will automatically insert a signature with your username or IP address and the time you posted the comment. This information is necessary to allow other editors to easily see who wrote what and when.

That includes the Teahouse. David Biddulph (talk) 20:01, 16 April 2019 (UTC)Reply

A tag has been placed on File:David (S) Soriano Chemistry Professor- Amateur Studio Artist.jpeg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image is an unused duplicate or lower-quality copy of another file on Wikipedia having the same file format, and all inward links have been updated.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Proposed deletion of File:David S. Soriano (Artist).jpg edit

The file File:David S. Soriano (Artist).jpg has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

unused, low-res, no obvious use

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated files}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the file's talk page.

Please consider addressing the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated files}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and files for discussion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.

This bot DID NOT nominate any file(s) for deletion; please refer to the page history of each individual file for details. Thanks, FastilyBot (talk) 01:01, 12 June 2019 (UTC)Reply

Uncreated Light Art moved to draftspace edit

An article you recently created, Uncreated Light Art, does not have enough sources and citations as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. Managing a conflict of interest edit

  Hello, David S. Soriano. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about in the page Draft:Uncreated Light Art, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a COI may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the COI guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

  • avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, company, organization or competitors;
  • propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (you can use the {{request edit}} template);
  • disclose your COI when discussing affected articles (see WP:DISCLOSE);
  • avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see WP:SPAM);
  • do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation (see WP:PAID).

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. GirthSummit (blether) 09:34, 29 June 2019 (UTC)Reply

Your recent editing edit

Hi - I wanted to drop you a more personal message than the automated ones above about your recent editing. It appears that you have been creating articles, and adding links to existing articles, about your own artwork. Please read WP:NOTPROMO - Wikipedia is not a suitable venue to promote your work. If your work is notable, other editors will doubtless write an article about it - you are discouraged from editing about your own work, per WP:COI. If you do write articles about your own work, you should use the articles for creation process, so that other editors can review them before they are published; when editing existing articles in areas where you have a conflict of interest, you should request a change on the relevant article's talk page, rather than changing the article directly. Please drop me a note on my talk page (or WP:PING me if you reply here) if you have any questions. Thanks GirthSummit (blether) 09:44, 29 June 2019 (UTC)Reply

  • I echo that. I hope you are getting the message from the way that your edits are being reverted. Kindly have the decency to wait until someone with no CoI thinks your art is notable and writes about it here. — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 09:59, 29 June 2019 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for your e-mails edit

Hi David, thanks for your recent e-mails. Generally speaking, I prefer on-wiki communication - it makes it easier to keep everything in the same place - please feel free to drop a note on my talk page any time to ask questions (as you just did!).

I appreciate that you are eager to make your artwork available publicly. In your e-mails, you mentioned 'Creative Commons', which is a type of licence that you can release your work under - I wonder whether you meant Wikimedia Commons? If that is what you were referring to, you can find guidelines about uploading files here, and tips for whether your work would be of benefit to the project here. If I'm honest (and I genuinely don't want to be a jerk about this), I don't really see why your work would be of benefit to the project - there aren't currently any articles that it would usefully illustrate, and the starting point for that would be reliable, secondary sources discussing the work, rather than images of it. However, you should be the judge of that - go ahead and read the guidelines and see what you think.

If it's not Wikimedia Commons you were referring to, and you were actually talking about releasing your work under a Creative Commons license, then I'm not sure that would help. The issue with the images was not just the copyright/licensing, it was also that it was not clear how they were relevant to the project.

To give you an example of what I'm talking about, when I'm not working on new page patrol or counter vandalism stuff, I like to write articles about historic buildings in Scotland. A few of the articles I've written (e.g. this one) have no image, because I have not been able to find a photograph with free-use licensing online. (There are plenty of images in the sources that I use, but of course they are all under copyright so I can't use them.) At some point, I intend to do a road tour of Scotland and take photographs of any building that I've written about that doesn't have a picture - these I will upload, under a Creative Commons license, because there is a clear rationale from the project's perspective for me doing so. On the other hand, I am also interested in Celtic and Anglo-Saxon knotwork, and enjoy creating my own intricate designs, largely to demonstrate to the children in my class what you can do if you can really control your pen! I would not upload that kind of stuff to Wikipedia, because I am not a notable artist, and nobody is ever going to write an article about me, so there is no obvious benefit to the project of me putting them on here.

I hope this all makes sense - do by all means read through the links I gave you above, and come to your own determination about whether you should upload your work - but remember that anything we do here should be to further the interests of the encyclopedia (to which we are all but lowly worker bees), not to promote ourselves.

As a final thought - while I'm not sure that your images are what the project needs, I am certain that your professional expertise would be! You are a professor of chemistry, and we have a whole host of articles about chemistry, and science in general - your input into that part of the project would, I am sure, be very welcome indeed. Problems with upload of File:Oil Pastels, Oil Bars (Oil Sticks) & Cold Wax in Art Applications.pdf edit

Thanks for uploading File:Oil Pastels, Oil Bars (Oil Sticks) & Cold Wax in Art Applications.pdf. You don't seem to have said where the image came from, who created it, or what the copyright status is. Non-free rationale for File:Oil Pastels, OIl Bars (Sticks) and Cold Wax Formulations in Art Utility.pdf edit

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Oil Pastels, OIl Bars (Sticks) and Cold Wax Formulations in Art Utility.pdf. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under non-free content criteria, but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia is acceptable. Please go to the file description page, and edit it to include a non-free rationale.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified the non-free rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described in section F6 of the criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Jalen D. Folf (talk) 18:30, 6 July 2019 (UTC)Reply

A tag has been placed on File:Oil Pastels, Oil Bars (Sticks) and Cold Wax Applications In Art Utility.pdf requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F10 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a file that is not an image, sound file or video clip (e.g. a Microsoft Word document or PDF file) that has no encyclopedic use.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". Speedy deletion nomination of David S. Soriano edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on David S. Soriano, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, group, product, service, person, or point of view and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.

Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator.
