Danish princes

Hi, Cotillards! I appreciate your interest in Danish royalty, but we should be careful not to include trivial and pointless information. For example, the article about the Crown Prince does not state his weight or height; and it shouldn't. An article about a boxer, such as Muhammad Ali, should. The article about Donald Trump does not explain the meaning of the names Donald and John; and it shouldn't. By adding such trivial information into an article, the article loses credibility and people will surely start wondering just how notable the subject is if we have to say her name is "the Italian form of the Latinate name Elisheva, which has a biblical etymology and many variants in different languages". Cheers, Surtsicna (talk) 23:00, 17 November 2012 (UTC)

Biographies

Please do not reinsert trivia without gaining consensus in a discussion. See Wikipedia talk:Manual of Style/Biographies#Meanings of the subject's middle name. Surtsicna (talk) 23:05, 20 January 2013 (UTC)

Gaining consensus? I think you and I are the only ones having a feud over this matter. Quite frankly, I think you're the only one who's bothered by the meaning of the names being on the article. It is relevant information. It is relevant for the article to state that Vincent (and Josephine) has a Greenlandic name and what it means, as a Dane I can safely say that it is very relevant information. And I don't really care if QMII isn't your Majesty, referring to a sitting monarch as "Marge" is just plain rude and disrespectful.
I am sure the Queen of Denmark is extremely insulted that I shortened her name in a Wikipedia edit summary. (So sorry, Marge!) Anyway, it is not relevant. As a Bosnian, I can safely say that your being Dane is just as much irrelevant. You could be a Greenlander named Minik and it would still be irrelevant. Discuss it at the talk page or Wikipedia talk:Manual of Style/Biographies#Meanings of the subject's middle name. Surtsicna (talk) 21:35, 21 January 2013 (UTC)
Wow, you must be fun at parties. Give yourself a rest. Cotillards (talk) 00:50, 22 January 2013 (UTC)

About Natalie Tran page

To Cotillards,

Hope all is well. We are currently debating 117Avenue on Nat's talk page about his removal of key statistics. You can vote on the issue if you like, and I would actually encourage you to do so. If you'll recall, 117Avenue removed the section on Tran's Lamington promise, falsely claiming it wasn't notable. He removed the passage again by the way, but won't make any reverts until the other issue is resolved. He clearly isn't a fan of Natalie Tran. Bshawnp (talk) 22:45, 15 August 2013 (UTC)

Created grammar problem

Hello! Your edit here created a grammar problem which is still there: "... the couple is expecting their first child ...". Singular and plural cannot be combined like that. How would you like to solve it, since you apparently didn't like my attempt? Cordially, --SergeWoodzing (talk) 18:11, 6 September 2013 (UTC)

The couple is a single unit, so therefore, yes, is and their can be combined like that. But I will, however, give you that The couple are expecting their first child would be more common as a British usage. Cotillards (talk) 21:06, 6 September 2013 (UTC)
Is and their - singular and plural - can not be combined like that in any case whatsoever in any form of correct English, my first language which I've also taught for over 50 years. If the couple is a single unit, in your opinion, then its first child will be born. Shall you correct you own error or shall I correct it for you? SergeWoodzing (talk) 23:20, 6 September 2013 (UTC)
PS Your Danism "as a British usage" isn't normal English either by the way. You might like to rethink and change your "near-native English" template before somebody is tempted, even more tempted than I, to make a project out of surveying your edits here on English WP. Nobody is expected to be 100% correct here, but it is common that we concede our errors and fix them ourselves. I'm only using this tone now because your reply was so instructive, and the cordiality I started off with seems to have been wasted in your case. --SergeWoodzing (talk) 23:39, 6 September 2013 (UTC)
Whatever, lad. I'll "correct my own error", but I'm sure as hell not here for that tone of yours (and quite frankly I find it pathetic that a man of your age - who acts so high and mighty - can't restrain himself from coming with immature remarks like yours). And you can "survey" my edits all you want, this is the first "mistake" I've made since I joined. Also, just a hint, signing your posts "cordially" doesn't make them cordial, and I think that both you and I know that your tone wasn't particularly cordial. And finally, yes, I do consider myself to master near-native English, growing up in a bilingual household with an English mum ultimately does that to you. Cotillards (talk) 00:53, 7 September 2013 (UTC)
I must warn you, cordially, that this reply of yours crosses a line in regard to uncivil behaviorisms and personal attacks, neither of which are permitted on the part of Wikipedia users. Continued behavior of that kind is likely to get you blocked, by through me or by someone else toward whom you choose to act belligerently.
I thank you sincerely for making that correction. --SergeWoodzing (talk) 14:20, 7 September 2013 (UTC)
Point out to me, please, just what in my reply is "uncivil behavior"? Personal attack, well, I don't know what you would call your own reply to me ("the cordiality I started off with seems to have been wasted in your case", "You might like to rethink and change your "near-native English""), but I don't think mine was more of a personal attack than yours. Don't dish it out if you can't take it. Sincerely Cotillards (talk) 00:08, 8 September 2013 (UTC)
Leave her alone, Serge Woodzing. Firstly and foremostly, you are not able to block anyone. Threatening to block someone for not bowing to you is reprehensible; doing so when you do not actually have the option to block is simply laughable. You have already tried to have a user (me) blocked for supposed "uncivil behaviorisms and personal attacks" and "belligerency", and that ended up with you being told by administrators to grow up and stop acting immaturely. You'll find that, if you don't constantly patronize them and abstain from spending most of your time on Wikipedia leaving condescending lectures on talk pages, people will be far less likely to "act belligerently" towards you. I've had Cotillards' talk page on my watchlist for a few months but I was not going to take part in this until you started threatening her. Online abuse should not be ignored. Stop terrorizing people. Cordially, Surtsicna (talk) 15:39, 7 September 2013 (UTC)
Thank you for this, clearly this guy has too much time on his hands. Cotillards (talk) 00:08, 8 September 2013 (UTC)

I apologize sincerely for being too tired and writing "by me" rather that "through me" above and have corrected that embarrassing error. Other than that, I feel uncomforable about making any further comments here which might lead to more unfriendliness. I'm already quite sad about some of the personal comments that have been directed at me here, outside of the WP issues at hand. --SergeWoodzing (talk) 01:36, 11 September 2013 (UTC)

Liechetstein princess listed as countess

Hello! I saw this edit of yours and would love to have your thoughts about how English WP has degraded the sum life story of the late Princess Consort of Liechtenstein by adding a totally unneccessary and relatively obsolete title to her article name. --SergeWoodzing (talk) 14:34, 7 June 2014 (UTC)

Her Most Catholic Majesty Queen Fabiola

Hi there,

I received the official list of people who attended the cathedral service of the press office of his majesty. This wil be updated. ok? regards. 212.88.246.9 (talk) 19:16, 18 December 2014 (UTC)

Entirely alright with me. I will, however, object to the many irrelevant mentions. This is Her Majesty's article – not an article about her funeral. No need to list all the guests. Particularly not those who are not even notable enough to have their own articles. Regards, Cotillards (talk) 21:47, 18 December 2014 (UTC)
Then you should start a new article and move everyone. Simple. I cannot start a new article. 212.88.246.9 (talk) 21:58, 18 December 2014 (UTC)
You're the one who insist on them being there – not me. Alas, I won't make a new article. Regards, Cotillards (talk) 06:53, 28 December 2014 (UTC)

Europe 10,000 Challenge invite

Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Europe/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like Germany, Italy, the Benelux countries, Iberian Peninsula, Romania, Slovenia etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. If you would like to see masses of articles being improved for Europe and your specialist country like Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon, sign up today and once the challenge starts a contest can be organized. This is a way we can target every country of Europe, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant and also sign under any country sub challenge on the page that you might contribute to! Thank you. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 02:53, 6 November 2016 (UTC)

Women's Football / Soccer Task Force News: August 2017

Should the women's football task force become WikiProject: WOSO?

According to an op-ed in the recent Signpost, some editors think task forces and subgroups are dying in 2017.

What do you think about forming our own WikiProject separate from WP:FOOTY? There's an on-going discussion of the potential pros and cons on the task force talk page. Input is welcome.

Recent developments

New initiatives have been created for:

  • FA WSL (England's top-division league)
  • NCAA (American university teams, conferences, etc.)
  • W-League (Australia's top-division league)
Ongoing tournaments
Current and upcoming seasons for top-division leagues
Did you know?

While WP:FPL lists only two women's top-division leagues as notable due to its "fully professional" criteria, did you know you can create an article on any player in any league as long as the references meet WP:GNG guidelines? Make sure to tag the new article talk page with: {{WP Women's sport|footy=yes}}.

Have some new articles in mind or see some that need improvement? Add them to the Open Tasks page if you'd like and other editors may be able to help. Need tips, assistance, or resources from other WOSO editors? Leave a message on the task force talk page.

Thank you for your continued contributions to articles related to women's football / soccer (WOSO)!

Edit-warring

Your recent editing history at Margarethe II of Denmark shows that you are currently engaged in an edit war. To resolve the content dispute, please do not revert or change the edits of others when you are reverted. Instead of reverting, please use the talk page to work toward making a version that represents consensus among editors. The best practice at this stage is to discuss, not edit-war. See BRD for how this is done. If discussions reach an impasse, you can then post a request for help at a relevant noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, you may wish to request temporary page protection.

Being involved in an edit war can result in your being blocked from editing—especially if you violate the three-revert rule, which states that an editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. Undoing another editor's work—whether in whole or in part, whether involving the same or different material each time—counts as a revert. Also keep in mind that while violating the three-revert rule often leads to a block, you can still be blocked for edit warring—even if you don't violate the three-revert rule—should your behavior indicate that you intend to continue reverting repeatedly. DrKay (talk) 13:19, 2 March 2018 (UTC)

Are you threatening me? Please do enlighten me, on what grounds do you keep reverting my edit? It's neither irrelevant nor unfactual. You never elaborated as to why you keep reverting my edit which I do believe strives against the BRD. Cotillards (talk) 13:30, 2 March 2018 (UTC)
You made a bold, unsourced edit on a biography of a living person. It was reverted. Where did you initiate the discussion? DrKay (talk) 13:51, 2 March 2018 (UTC)
Unsourced? As I said, it's general knowledge so your explanation for reverting my edit is simply nonsensical. Your issue is completely lost on me. Cotillards (talk) 13:58, 2 March 2018 (UTC)
All material must be verifiable. See Wikipedia:Verifiability. DrKay (talk) 14:11, 2 March 2018 (UTC)
Then I've got a whole lot of "unverifiable" material (Elizabeth II, Harald V, Carl XVI Gustaf) for you to insinuate yourself into. Dive right in, my friend. Cotillards (talk) 14:17, 2 March 2018 (UTC)

Hello WOSO editors! A few initiatives have been started with an emphasis on making more WOSO links blue (similar to the work that WikiProject Women in Red does) and filling in the gaps within various league, team, and player, etc. articles.

If you're interested in collaborating with others to make more links blue, take a look at the initiatives listed in the box below. Sign up at the bottom of an initiative page and help grow the lists, add potential references, resources, and create the articles ... or create your own initiative.

Did you know ...

WP:GNG takes precedence over WP:NFOOTY (which only includes the players in 1 active women's league)? Often times there is enough media coverage that meets WP:GNG or other notability guidelines. For more information, see WP:WOSO#Notability and be sure to tag the new article talk page with: {{WP Women's sport|footy=yes}}

Current and upcoming seasons for top-division leagues
Current season articles needing creation

Have some new articles in mind or see some that need improvement? Add them to the Open Tasks.

Has an article you worked on been nominated for deletion? See:

Want some tips, assistance, or resources from other WOSO editors?
Leave a message on the task force talk page.

Thank you for your continued contributions to articles related to women's football / soccer (WOSO)!

Hi

Rostov lost Cabral, Ilina, Dembele and Bulatovic. Last two seasons ETO and CSM Bucharest were priced around 2 or maximum 3. This season Rostov was priced 8-9 to win the Champions League trophy. AT THE START OF THE COMPETITION, Bucharest indeed now are dealing with injuries moreover the coach is new.

This means CSM Bucharest is probably at least even, right? Otherwise if the finals wouldn't take place in Budapest maybe the Romanian team would be priced the first. Gazeta Sporturilor source

Gyor Audi ETO 2.10
CSM București 3.00
Brest 8.00
Rostov Don 9.00
Metz 18.00

Also Vardar is disappeared now. English language source Christina (talk) 18:30, 28 January 2019 (UTC)

You (I assume?) write that they're "the highest ranked team" on "the list of the world's most valuable women's handball teams" but somehow fail to provide the "list" on which you're basing this postulation. What list are you referring to? Since you mention a list, surely you must be able to provide one?
I have read all the references you have added, none of which provide a link for a list created by either the EHF or the IHF that state that Győr is the "the highest ranked team" on "the list of the world's most valuable women's handball teams". As for the power ranking (which granted, is a thing the EHF cooks up) – that is based on current form and still isn't viable as a reference for a "list of the world's most valuable women's handball teams".
Listen, I don't personally disagree that Győr is the best team in the world right now but if you can't reference this paragraph properly, it's nothing but a postulation and Wikipedia isn't a place for postulations. Either you should word your statement differently or it shouldn't be in the article at all. Cotillards (talk) 23:15, 28 January 2019 (UTC)
If you read all the articles, since I added 2 more, it proves they are the best two! So please stop with this envious shit. I have 2 articles that show the odds, and another 2-3 with declarations or journalists that say THEY ARE THE BEST TWO AND FAVOURITES. Christina (talk) 16:20, 28 January 2019 (UTC)
None of the articles are official articles nor do they list an official coefficient-style ranking. Statements from "journalists" claiming they're the best team are no more postulatory than statements from you and I. Cotillards (talk) 17:37, 29 January 2019 (UTC)
Hey again! We must find a consesus, now do you agree with the writing? I will also bring more info regarding squads. We are all a community, no need for reporting me for something you don't agree and which was added with sources. Regards, Christina Christina (talk) 20:27, 29 January 2019 (UTC)
You decided to "find consensus" by adding a statement we've neither agreed on nor is verifiable – how is that any less vandalism than constantly adding unverifiable information? It's not that I don't agree with you. On the contrary, I do agree that Győr is the best team in the world. However, unless there's an official ranking that confirms that – such as a coefficient-style ranking – it's postulatory to claim that either they or CSM are the best teams in the world. Isabelle de Charrière

Hello, Cotillards, Could you write/translate an article about Isabelle de Charrière at the Danish Wikipedia? That would be appreciated.

There 're existing several potrait paintings and a drawing of her by Jens Juel. Hope you can do it or find some other Danish Wikipedian to do it. Sources needed for Days of the Year pages

You're probably not aware of this change, but Days of the Year pages are no longer exempt from WP:V and direct sources are required for additions. For details see the WikiProject Days of the Year style guide. I've gone ahead and added a source to back up your recent addition to May 6. Please try to find sources for additions to these pages as the burden to provide them is on the editor who adds or restores material to these pages. Thank you. Toddst1 (talk) 15:10, 6 May 2019 (UTC)

WP:GNG takes precedence over WP:NFOOTY (which only includes the players in two currently active women's leagues)? Often times there is enough media coverage that meets WP:GNG or other notability guidelines. Women's Football / Soccer Update > October 2020

WP:WOSO News: October 2020

Chelsea striker Bethany England scoring the winning goal in the team's 2-1 win against Arsenal at the 2019–20 FA Women's League Cup, February 29, 2020.

Hello WOSO editors!

What a year to be alive. As usual (but perhaps even moreso since there have been unexpected quarantines), there has been a lot of activity on player, team, league and tournament-related Wikipedia articles with all of the worldwide coverage of women's football / soccer. Great work!

Fall Focus: FA WSL articles

You may have noticed lots of great things going on for the top English league this year: the FA WSL. More (international!) broadcasts, top international player signings, improved media coverage, and increased viewership. Let's keep the momentum brewing, shall we?

Here's a sampling of articles that could use creation, expansion or updating. What will you commit to working on?

Historical Topics
Managers
Teams
Players
Other

The Freddies.

Howdy, will you be planning an RM for all the Danish monarch bios, that go be Frederick? GoodDay (talk) 19:02, 1 July 2021 (UTC)

I will not. Fact of the matter is that it's factually incorrect to claim that there's a "Danish royal tradition of alternating between the names Christian and Frederick". All bearers of the latter name have been legally named Frederik. Cotillards (talk) 19:49, 1 July 2021 (UTC)
The bearers of the latter name was Frederick, according to english sources. It's only starting with the current monarch, that english sources have started to go with the Danish version. We don't change them retroactively, which is why you would fail to have all those Frederick articles moved to Frederik. GoodDay (talk) 20:01, 1 July 2021 (UTC)
And I have never expressed an intention to change other articles? I am specifically referring to your edits in Christian's article which feature the factually inaccurate claim that there has ever been any tradition of Danish monarchs being named Frederick. Cotillards (talk) 20:32, 1 July 2021 (UTC)
I've put in a compromise at that article, showing both english/danish versions of the name. GoodDay (talk) 20:55, 1 July 2021 (UTC)
Respectfully, that sounds absolutely ridiculous. A sort of desperate attempt to get the last word. But you do you. As long as the article doesn't claim there's a tradition for calling Danish monarchs Frederick, which there is not. Cotillards (talk) 23:19, 1 July 2021 (UTC)

The article List of godchildren of members of the Danish royal family has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

The page appears to be based on the now deleted List of godchildren of members of the British Royal Family, which was deleted due to not being a notable distinction. This article appears to have many of the same issues and there doesn't seem to be any sources describing the topic as notable.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. 98.228.137.44 (talk) 20:44, 24 June 2023 (UTC)
