Thanks

Thank you for your copyediting work at Game! Although I don't agree with all of it, it's certainly helped out, and has stimulated me to improve the article's style even further. I've listed you at Wikipedia:Great editing in progress. Seahen 15:38, 30 June 2006 (UTC)

Stub deletion debate

Hmmm... You have a couple questions that I will try to address:

  • rather generic {{tv-stub}}
    • There are indeed much better stubs than this. If it is a TV show, try using {{US-tv-prog-stub}} and its related siblings (UK, Canada, Japan, etc). If it is a station or channel, there is a proposal here to create that. There's also a proposal for regional tv stubs, which should help soon.
  • I skipped many articles because they were already stubbed with above that will be deleted. Does this mean I will need to go back, find all of those articles, and restub them?
    • Well, yes and no. The articles will need to be restubbed, but it's not actually that painful. Alai has a bot that does a lot of automatic restubbing (say a simple rename or a straight deletion) that can do a lot of tedious tasks. There is also a tool called AutoWikiBrowser which helps tremendously with restubbing. It can create a list of "what transcludes here" for example, then you can make your changes, hit save, and it will automatically load the next article in your list. It's a really sweet tool and I recommend it for anyone doing a lot of stub-sorting, since it's a pretty tedious task sometimes.

I hope I was able to answer your questions and if you need anything else, just let me know. Have a great day and happy editing! ~ Amalas rawr =^_^= 23:42, 25 October 2006 (UTC)

List of beers

Hi. Yes, thanks for getting in touch. It was a major edit - and you are right - it would have been better to have had a prior discussion. My mistake was that I confused it with List of breweries and Beer and nationality - both of which I have been working on for some time, so it didn't appear to me to be a sudden edit. I can see now, that I hadn't done any work on that article since May 2006, when I changed the intro. Anyway - the article as it stood, as you are aware, was a red link farm. And most of the links that did work went to the wrong places. The article was not helpful, was not easy to manage, and was simply encouraging people to list non-notable beers. It should have been proposed for deletion - and it may still get that proposal - but I could see some value in it as a more user-friendly guide to the information and articles that people wanted, than the main Beer and breweries by region category. I take your point about listing beers that Wiki does not currently have articles on. But articles are not the places to post such requests. This is where they should go: Wikipedia:Requested articles. In the meantime, if you wish to browse through a list of over 30,000 beers you may take a look here at RateBeer.com or BeerAdvocate.com. SilkTork 00:39, 14 January 2007 (UTC)

And yes - please, lets open a discussion on the talk page. I am aware others may wish to give their views, and I may be in the minority. SilkTork 00:40, 14 January 2007 (UTC)

Many thanks

Hello CobraWiki. I just wanted to say thanks for reducing the size on the Masterpiece Theatre logo that someone downloaded awhile ago. I am not very computer literate and had no clue of how to make it fit the size of the article properly so I much appreciate your edit. I don't know how to pass out barnstars either but I can pass along this plate of cybercookies as my own version of awarding you for your help. MarnetteD | Talk 03:27, 15 May 2007 (UTC)

Game On (exhibition) and British spellings

Hi. Thanks for the improvements made in this edit. It has much improved the article. However, before making corrections to spelling in the future, you should read and consider WP:ENGVAR and Wikipedia:Manual of Style (spelling). These set out Wikipedia's guidelines regarding the differing varieties of English and English spelling used in the encyclopedia.

As a British exhibition, the "Game On" article should use British English spellings and this means using "ise" rather than "ize" in words such as "organise" etc. Cheers, Mattinbgn (talk) 02:19, 10 September 2010 (UTC)

Hide images as something other than a hatnote?

Hey-- I see you're opposed to the idea of hatnotes on Muhammad. It's very important to me that we protect the images on Muhammad from deletion or removal. NOTCENSORED is the heart of WP.

I feel like the best way to safeguard NOTCENSORED is to provide readers with somewhere they can click to hide all images. This will make it absolutely clear in future that objections to images are not over their "shock effect". If you're offended, we can just tell you where to click for yourself, and point them to NOTCENSORED after that.

I understand your hesitation about a "disclaimer style" hatnote, but I wonder how you feel about the general idea of an imageless wikipedia article through some other mechanism, if not a hatnote. For example, if you object to "view the article without images" being only on one page, how would you feel about adding it to the default skin for every article? or making it a preference?

The controversial image issue isn't going away-- I think the right solution is an "image toggle" link on pages where people want it / all pages. Readers already have the right to view a page without images-- but most don't have the technical literacy to exercise that right.

Anyway, that's how I came at this problem. An image toggle will solve a HUGE argument, and there's no reason toggling images couldn't become part of our user interface.

It sounds like you're more opposed to Muhammad getting special treatment in the form of an article-specific hatnote? How would you feel about a side-note or a top-note, or about a non-page-specific note? --HectorMoffet (talk) 07:34, 20 March 2012 (UTC)
