Barbara Robb

edit

Hi Claire,

I just wanted to say fantastic work on Barbara Robb, it's a really great addition to Wikipedia.

I've done some copyediting the bring the article in line with the Manual of Style. There's still a bit of work to be done on the referencing, particularly adding specific (ideally page number) references for direct quotes, and a lot of the material on the inquiries and Robinson's white paper really needs to be backed up with citations to secondary sources if it's going to stay (it's important that we remain unbiased and avoid original conclusions that aren't in our sources.) I've added [citation needed] tags where I think the referencing should be improved.

If you can do that, though, we could submit the article to appear as a Did you know on the front page, which should get it a lot of views. (The deadline for that is a week after the article was created, so the 20th.) Joe Roe (talk) 13:16, 15 May 2016 (UTC)Reply

Hi Joe
Thanks for your help and advice to a first-timer.
I think all the corrections have been done. It would be really great to have the article on 'Did you know'. I will be happy to do more if necessary.

Great! I'd say it's ready for DYK, all you need to do is come up with a 'hook' (i.e. "Did you know that ... X"), or a few options for one. It needs to be something interesting from the article that is directly supported by an inline citation, and includes the article title. Joe Roe (talk) 20:09, 16 May 2016 (UTC)Reply

Dear Joe the idea I have at the moment is 'Did you know that * ... in 1969 the petite, 57 year old "fearless campaigner" for the well-being of older people, Barbara Robb, was described by a Cabinet Minister as a "terrible danger" to the British government? If this is not suitable, please let me know and I'll have another think.

have also added a picture to the article

I do not know, however, how to create/edit a 'hook' - please advise Many thanks ClaireClairebendavid (talk) 21:19, 17 May 2016 (UTC)Reply

I think if we just made it a little bit shorter and more factual, e.g.
... that Barbara Robb, a campaigner for the well-being of older people, was described by a Cabinet Minister as a "terrible danger" to the British government in 1969?
What do you think? Joe Roe (talk) 07:53, 18 May 2016 (UTC)Reply

Excellent. Thanks, Joe. Do you create the hook, or is that something I have to do? ClaireClairebendavid (talk) 08:01, 18 May 2016 (UTC)Reply

Sorry, wikijargon creeping in. The 'hook' is just the "did you know..." sentence we've just been working on.
I've nominated the article for DYK all we need to do know is keep an eye on the nomination page until it's reviewed. Joe Roe (talk) 09:17, 18 May 2016 (UTC)Reply

Hi Joe That is wonderful and I am delighted, but would it be possible to get the picture caption central under the picture? Thanks again for your help and encouragement. ClaireClairebendavid (talk) 09:21, 18 May 2016 (UTC)Reply

It should be when it's on the front page (if it's accepted & if the picture is accepted). Joe Roe (talk) 05:23, 22 May 2016 (UTC)Reply

Hi Yoninah Every paragraph now has at least one inline reference. I'm happy to make more corrections if you wish! Clairebendavid (talk) 16:04, 26 May 2016 (UTC)Reply

DYK for Barbara Robb

edit

On 31 May 2016, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Barbara Robb, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that Barbara Robb (pictured), a campaigner for the well-being of older people, was described by a Cabinet Minister as a "terrible danger" to the British government in 1969? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Barbara Robb. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Barbara Robb), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Hello Esquirol57 We should write something on HoPSIG. Clairebendavid (talk) 11:24, 11 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

Well, it is clear, and I apologise, that I haven't looked at this for a very long time. Please do write something on HoPSIG, or perhaps we can write it together? Clairebendavid (talk) 08:19, 8 October 2017 (UTC)Reply
