Code-switching

Hello, Chiton magnificus. You edited Code-switching to slightly alter some spacing, but didn't leave an edit summary. I surmise that you made that change in order to indicate that tag-switching and intra-word switching are kinds of intra-sentential switches, right?

That's a slightly tricky issues. Of course, words and tag questions typically exist within sentences, so in some sense these may be types of intra-sentential switches. But the literature on these types is (as far as I know) separate. That is, I don't know of any substantial literature treating either phenomenon in terms of inter-/intra- sentence positioning. (In fact the literature on tag switches is pretty sparse all together, but that's a bigger problem.) Therefore, I think the old formatting was better, since it didn't imply a hierarchy. Thoughts? (Feel free to reply here; I'll watch your talk page for a few days.) Cnilep (talk) 01:04, 27 July 2011 (UTC)

I tought on these things also but was tempted to do this small change. But I think you are right to have things nested is a alteration of the original source. Chiton magnificus (talk) 08:56, 27 July 2011 (UTC)
OK, so I'll put it back the way it was before. Thanks for your thoughts on the issue. Cnilep (talk) 07:33, 28 July 2011 (UTC)

Camila Vallejo

You copied and duplicated the content of the biographical page of Camila Vallejo onto another page 'Leaders of 2011 Chilean protests'. What is the basis for doing this? You didn't explain why this was done? It seems like a good idea but how informed are you on these events? The page title 'Leaders of 2011 Chilean protests' would be more accurate as 'Leaders of the 2011 Student protests in Chile' (I could be wrong - it can be discussed). This page is fine, and Camila Vallejo should be listed among them, but it doesn't serve as a basis to remove the 'Camila Vallejo' page. The same could apply to the page of 'Maria Jesus Sanhuenza' which I started some time ago. Regards- Moshe-paz (talk) 19:13, 2 September 2011 (UTC)

Thank you for your comments. On the name issue that can changed without controversy - I guess. What about Leaders of the 2011 Chilean student protests? I do think that, and you may agree perhap, that Camila Vallejo is irrelevant outside the 2011 Chilean student protests so the content said in her article would do better if it was in a more contextualizad article. I will put this on the discussión on why it should be deleted. Chiton magnificus (talk) 13:22, 3 September 2011 (UTC)

Libya

Hi,

I noticed you change the Libya Civil War article to replace the word "targeting" with "repression". What is happening to Black Africans in Libya is not simply a "civil rights" issue as the term "repression" is currently defined.

The article links to statements by UNHCR and Amnesty International clearly showing Black Africans are being rounded up and targeted. Should black immigrants being killed in Libya not be reported about? I think the article needs to be objective but there seems to be a trend towards ignoring the killing and rounding up of black people in Libya (irrespective of whether or not they were mercenaries). — Preceding unsigned comment added by Akinsope (talkcontribs) 08:58, 7 September 2011 (UTC)

I changed the wording since i found targeting a too loose term, I guess that when sources come up of what has happened the title should killings, murder or massacre. I think the word "tageting" kind of softens the killings and abuses the rebels have done on civilian black africans and libyans.Chiton magnificus (talk) 15:44, 7 September 2011 (UTC)

Chilenization

Yes, I noticed you created the article. It's a really tough subject, and really sad for the people living in those areas. I remember watching a documentary where they asked these people to talk a little about their lives. Some were descendants of the Chilean colonists that came to the area, and their main complaint was how the Chilean government did not properly maintain the infrastructure (areas which were no longer economically valuable were left to their own fate). Those descendants from Peruvians kept a similar rethoric, but several got sentimental when they recalled the bad treatment they received due to their Peruvian lineage. One old man even cried about how his favorite uncle (from Peru) was one day attacked by a gang of Chilean nationalists, almost died, and never came back again. The documentary is from the early 2000's, so you can only imagine how the situation was during those days. The basic point to the documentary was that everyone claimed to feel Chilean, but those that did not have the true "lineage" were discriminated against.

A similar thing happened in Tacna following its re-acquisition by Peru; many of the people from Tacna had a Chilean accent and many of them also faced discrimination. As you also noted in the article, many of the indigenous populations in Peru were accused of lacking patriotism, but up to a certain point everything (both in Chile and Peru) can be linked all the way back to the racist Spanish colonial system. Even to this day people hold a similar ideology, where they think that being "Criollo" (now White) > "Mestizo" (brownish) > "Indigenous" > "Black". I don't think it's right, but plenty of people still think this way.--MarshalN20 | Talk 14:43, 15 September 2011 (UTC)

Re:Grau

Keysanger has always been in the discussion (for several years) and will continue to be in it as long as he has a computer and Wikipedia exists. Giving up a point which I consider correct will not bring anything positive. Keysanger complains because he doesn't like Grau being mentioned as a hero, but he doesn't complain when Prat is brought up as a hero. I have even provided sources which explain Grau's notability. In any case, I'll just abide by what consensus decides. That's a cornerstone of the project, create consensus.--MarshalN20 | Talk 14:15, 29 October 2011 (UTC)

Your contributed article, Patriotic leagues

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

Hello, I notice that you recently created a new page, Patriotic leagues. First, thank you for your contribution; Wikipedia relies solely on the efforts of volunteers such as yourself. Unfortunately, the page you created covers a topic on which we already have a page - Argentine Patriotic League. Because of the duplication, your article has been tagged for speedy deletion. Please note that this is not a comment on you personally and we hope you will continue helping to improve Wikipedia. If the topic of the article you created is one that interests you, then perhaps you would like to help out at Argentine Patriotic League - you might like to discuss new information at the article's talk page.

If you think that the article you created should remain separate, contest the deletion by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". Doing so will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. Additionally if you would like to have someone review articles you create before they go live so they are not nominated for deletion shortly after you post them, allow me to suggest the article creation process and using our search feature to find related information we already have in the encyclopedia. Try not to be discouraged. Wikipedia looks forward to your future contributions. Ramaksoud2000 (talk) 16:28, 19 December 2011 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of Martin Gusinde Anthropological Museum

The article Martin Gusinde Anthropological Museum has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

No independent reliable sources found to indicate notability. The museum appears in the websites of tour operators and in other travel related websites, but I can't find any mentions in actual travel guides. They've published a few books about exhibitions in the museum, but these are fully self-published sources, they do nothing to indicate notability.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Re:Pisco Sour and Miguel Grau

Chiton, I took your advice from the Talk:War of the Pacific and moved the information of Miguel Grau to the aftermath section. Hopefully this will end the problem with Keysanger. Regarding the Pisco Sour background, the sources I used for the background are reliable. The Cuzco wine information seems like another hypothesis of the origin of vinification in South America (albeit the one you present, from Ica-Pisco, seems to be more accurate). I tried to be brief in the section in order to avoid any controversial information which might anger Chilean users (although, User:Selecciones de la Vida. However, it would be great (given your knowledge on the subject of New World wine), if you could improve the section with your information. I have also added your "New World wine" article to the "See also" section of the Pisco Sour background (which should help get it more views). Thanks again for your message and, again, please do feel free to improve the Pisco Sour article with your information. Best of wishes.--MarshalN20 | Talk 20:31, 1 April 2012 (UTC)

Thank you for improving the article. My understanding is that Pisco Sour is a cocktail, produced in bars (I doubt they produce public statistics on bar production and consumption). On that note, I have never heard of bottled Pisco Sour. Regards.--MarshalN20 | Talk 23:43, 1 April 2012 (UTC)
