Alma Cogan edit

Thank you for expanding this article. However, the main paragraph you have added does not continues any references/citations. It may possibly be a copyvio 'cut and paste' edit from an unnamed source. For example; "And altho there's no clear indication as to the success of these German tracks" - my own 'cut and paste' from the present Cogan article wording - suggests a lack of citable source, or possibly original research.

I know you are probably quite new to Wikipedia, and I certainly do not want to alarm you, or put you off editing. However, the Wikipedia:Five Pillars are worth reading - if you do not fall asleep first ?!! With very best wishes and intent,

One must wonder: why have you been autoblocked twice, on two different IPs, because of blocks upon User:Haida chieftain? Is it just coincidence that you've edited on different IPS, within minutes of each other as this editor? --jpgordon::==( o ) 22:15, 8 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

All the editing I've done recently on Wikipedia - and virtually all the editing I've ever done - has been on public access terminals provided by the branches of my local library. Unfortunately one of the many other library patrons who avail themselves of this library service is evidently using poor judgement in his or her editing of Wikipedia causing these IP address autoblock issues that have effected me. That the IP address of the computer system in my local libraries is subject to change is an evident attribute of my local libraries' computer system that I really cannot comment on.--Cherrylimerickey (talk) 01:36, 9 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

As a librarian in a library that has had it's wikipedia editing privileges blocked for a while I can second the thought these these sorts of block do not, or rather, should not, reflect on the editing of any particular editor. However, if you would put something, anything on your user page than your name would appear in blue rather than in red and it might positively effect the way other editors viewed your edits. Take Me to Your Heart Again edit

Thank you for completing the song credits and adding other album details. If you can incorporate an authority for the statement concerning videos being prepared for two of the songs, which were also intended for single release in the UK, that would improve the article.

Even a Fool Would Let Go edit

Probably only a fool would put this much energy into getting the facts right on an obscure country song, but... Actually, it appears the song appeared on the 1977 Charlie Rich album Take Me (see PragueFrank's listing here, for instance). Looking at 45s for sale online, I'm not certain there wasn't a US single in 1977 as well. So, why was it a hit in 1980? Did it appear in a movie or something? Or did it just catch on for some reason? I need to do some more research (or you can). Brianyoumans (talk) 01:28, 5 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

  • I don't see any reason other than perhaps that the promotion of the three versions put out in 1979 and 1980 may have produced interest in the Rich version. I think I will go ahead and change the article unless I find more info.Brianyoumans (talk) 02:09, 5 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

You're right about the track being on the Take Me album. However I would maintain that the 1977 single release was only in the UK based on the absence of a 1977 US release appearing in this detailed discography: [1]. That the image of the single of Rich's US single of "Even a Fool Would Let Go" (Epic 9-50869) - shown here [2] - displays a copyright date of 1977 I'd explain as referencing the track's original release on the Take Me album and not the US single release. This image [3] which clearly states a release date of March 1977 is for the UK single, Rich then being in the US C&W Top 30 with the Epic single "Easy Look".

Its curious that Epic would be moved to release any track by Rich in 1980 two years after he'd left the label: his current recordings weren't displaying any particularly strong popularity for his previous label to want to "cash in on" ("A Man Just Don't Know What a Woman Goes Through" did almost make the C&W Top Ten that year but not til the autumn: Epic released the "Even a Fool Would Let Go" single in April 1980). And I can't surmise any especial motivation for Epic to chose that particular song, its appearing on recent albums by other C&W artists I wouldn't see as conveying any real cachet (also Epic evidently wasn't impressed enough by Pop/C&W superstar Kenny Rogers recording "Even a Fool Would Let Go" in 1978 to release Rich's version that year): however I wouldn't go so far as to delete that rationale from the article. If I come across any other nuggets about the song I'll certainly edit them in.--Cherrylimerickey (talk) 19:05, 6 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

  • It looks like it was some sort of plan on Epic's part - they released a single in 1979 and another one in April 1981. And the 1981 one charted, a bit higher. Perhaps they were just trying a make a little money on stuff they already had waxed, while someone else promoted the artist.Brianyoumans (talk) 20:16, 6 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

What you did by removing reliable sources is pretty much called vandalism. And the sources you added were not that great. Caden cool

What the hell indeed. I assumed the objection was over my replacing a physical book source for the single's chart rankings with a URL. Seriously - you reverted my entire edit to reinstate the chart peak for the parent album of "It's in His Kiss"? That information is only relevant to the album, which has its own article. But it's just a few words so I will not be contentious. Again if you want to report me for vandalism - do so. I'm not sure what justification any editor could use to toss out all my hard work rather than simply replacing the info on the album into the article. --Cherrylimerickey (talk) 23:10, 8 June 2015 (UTC)Reply

I reverted your edit because you REMOVED reliable sources that I added for both the single chart ranking and the album chart ranking, so get your facts straight. Your removal of reliable sources is called vandalism. Do not remove referenced text again. Caden cool 01:34, 9 June 2015 (UTC)Reply

I won't argue over an insistence that the album chart ranking be included in an article on the single - it is irrelevant but I admit it hardly bloats the article. And I admit I should have summarized my rationale in deleting the album chart ranking. But your response is disproportionately emotional. As far as the chart peak of the single - I didn't delete the info: I augmented it by adding more detailed info on the chart position week by week. I don't have access to the British Hit Singles and Albums book but looking at the sample pages available online it only provides peak positions & "weeks on" not the weekly breakdown which I edited into the article. To get the weekly breakdown of the single's chart rankings I had to consult the UK Official Charts website - don't see how any editor could dismiss that source as "not that great" - ; anyway, as http://www.officialcharts.com/artist/14850/linda-lewis/ verified the single's overall peak as well as the weekly breakdown, retaining a separate source for the single's peak position alone seemed superfluous. I think any objective editor would concur.

BTW - virtually all of the Wikipedia info on the Linda Lewis version of It's in His Kiss is my work. Prior to my adding input to this article as of 23 June 2009, the sum total of Wikipedia info on Linda Lewis' It's in His Kiss was this single sentence: Linda Lewis had a hit in the United Kingdom with her version in 1975. And it wasn't sourced. I really don't consider myself a vandal.

I can understand editors being concerned. I cannot understand anger.--Cherrylimerickey (talk) 17:54, 9 June 2015 (UTC)Reply

Okay let me clear something up, I wasn't angry at you. I was annoyed because you removed the sources without explanation. Perhaps I should of approached you differently. Anyway you expanded her section and it looks fine and you restored my sources which is also a good thing. Caden cool 21:08, 9 June 2015 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for your reply. I'd no wish to endlessly debate with you - I was hoping to hit a conciliatory note with you & I'm pleased that seems to now be the case.--Cherrylimerickey (talk) 21:19, 9 June 2015 (UTC)Reply

I agree and I too am pleased we worked it out. I would like to apologize for calling you a vandal. I was wrong to have said that. Your edits are good and so are the sources you added. You included so much good information to the Linda Lewis section and in the process made it so much better compared to what it originally was. Hi, I'm RonBot, a script that checks new non-free file uploads. I have found that the subject image that you recently uploaded was more than 5% in excess of the Non-free content guideline size of 100,000 pixels. I have tagged the image for a standard reduction, which (for jpg/gif/png/svg files) normally happens within a day. Please check the reduced image, and make sure that the image is not excessively corrupted. Other files will be added to Category:Wikipedia non-free file size reduction requests for manual processing. There is a full seven-day period before the original oversized image will be hidden; during that time you might want to consider editing the original image yourself (perhaps an initial crop to allow a smaller reduction or none at all). A formula for calculation the desired size can be found at WP:Image resolution, along with instructions on how to tag the image in the rare cases that it requires an oversized image (typically about 0.2% of non-free uploads are tagged as necessarily oversized). Please contact the bot owner if you have any questions, or you can ask them at Wikipedia talk:Non-free content. RonBot (talk) 17:09, 28 September 2018 (UTC)Reply
